Lifehouse&Kris Allen 10/15/10 Smoke&Mirrors Tour

Last night Kris Allen and Lifehouse came to MGM Grand at Foxwoods for the Smoke and Mirrors tour.  Somehow we managed to get orchestra seats, I had never been that close before at the venue.  I wonder if it has something to do with Ticketmaster selling some of the tickets now…

I had thought that there would be another opener – a girl that was discovered on Youtube was on the tour, or so I thought, but when 8pm hit and the lights went down it was Kris Allen’s band that was on the stage… which threw me. I wasn’t ready for that at all so I spent half of the first song digging in my purse to find my camera! (She probably wasn’t there because Foxwoods is probably pretty strict about how long and late everyone can play)

Kris sounded great, but I wasn’t getting the same energy as I did at the Oakdale show with Keith Urban.  I think this was due to the crowd though, not Kris.  Kris was definitely ‘on’.  I was surprised he didn’t sing The Truth and was surprised that he did sing Red Guitar – I was thinking he’d have done roughly the same set as he did with Keith.

For merch, Kris had 2 shirts, one yellow with a Buck on it and a light shirt with multi colored piano on it, a zip up hoodie and a signed photo.  I got the photo right away but I was a bit sad that it probably meant Kris wasn’t going to be signing anywhere!  (Usually I don’t like getting autos unless I got them from the artist myself but the fact that I had Adam’s signature and not Kris’ was kind of bothering me lol)

After Kris’ set ended, with a Live Like We’re Dying sing-a-long, it was time for a 20 minute intermission. (Kris played roughly 40 minutes)

Lifehouse came out at about 9.  I really don’t know any of their stuff but the radio singles, but I did enjoy their performance.  It was quite a change from the very quick acoustic set I had seen them do earlier this year (with only half the band)  Their stage setup was relatively basic – with the exception of some screens around the drumset that had different effects going on them throughout the night.

They did about 7 songs and then all but Jason left the stage.  He said for the next 10-15 minutes we were in charge of the setlist and allowed people to yell out requests.  Of course it would have been nice if he said what the requests were (all he mentioned was “Everything”) to make my setlist keeping go a little bit easier haha because I couldn’t really make out what anyone was yelling at him and I’m kind of surprised he could! Near the end, Rick came out and stood off to the side looking like he was yawning and bored.  Then he moved closer as Jason kept playing and eventually was so close to Jason that he couldn’t help but laugh and they went back to a full band set up.

Jason also went through the crowd a bit for a song.  This caused a frenzy, as expected! The ushers were running to block off the stairs so people wouldn’t go running all over the place to get closer to him. (I think this was during Whatever It Takes, because for Wrecking Ball Jason was MIA for some of the song – or maybe I just couldn’t see him because Big Foot was 2 rows in front of me conveniently blocking Jason for a good 70% of the show lol)

Since it was the first night of the show, I tried to keep track of the setlist but as I am not familiar with a lot of Lifehouse’s stuff, there are a couple songs that I can’t figure out now.  Also, Everything is on there twice.  They definitely did it in the encore, and Jason said the name during his little acoustic set so I am assuming he sang it there as well (he only did bits of the songs then, from what I could tell) but I am not 100% sure.  If anyone knows what the missing 2 songs are based on the lines I have posted, leave me a comment so I can update 🙂  I’m actually pretty impressed with myself that there were only 2 songs I couldn’t eventually figure out (I usually write down a line or two from the song that is repeated, sometimes it ends up being the song title – sometimes I have to google and then sometimes even then I still have nothing)  Thanks to Will for filling in the blanks on the songs for me 🙂

Jason Castro Mohegan Sun Reality Check October 14

After missing a couple of other Idol alums at the casino, I finally made it up there for Jason Castro (one of my faves from his season)  He was performing as part of Mohegan Sun’s “Reality Check” which features various reality show people at the casino for events.

At 7pm, Jason was to perform in the Cabaret Theater.  I had never seen a show in there before, but I had researched it before hand and saw that it held about 350 people.  When I got in line a little before 6pm, there were maybe 50 people in front of me so I knew I would be making it inside, but where I would end up sitting was unknown.

At about 6:30pm everyone was let into the venue and unlike the Wolf’s Den where they seat you, we were told we could sit wherever we wanted inside as long as it was not a table in the front that said reserved.  I managed to get a seat at the end of one of the second “rows” of tables.  I took out my camera and started playing with the settings only to realized – I HAD NO MEMORY CARD!  I also did this in August at Arthur Ashe Kids day – but that day I also had a backup memory card to save the day.  Unfortunately this time the cards were both at home on my desk!  Luckily, my camera has some internal memory and I manged to play with the settings and get it to hold 24 photos on sport mode. (Now I just have my fingers crossed they will print as 4x6s without a problem for my scrapbook!)

Everything was running a bit late, so Jason came out after 7pm. Setlist was as follows:

That’s What I’m Here For
Let’s Just Fall In Love Again
Love Uncompromised
If I Were You
Somewhere Over The Rainbow
Who I Really Am
You Are
Hallelujah

After the performance (which I have some video clips of and will made a media post in the not so distant future) he did a short Q&A.;  The first question he was asked was which was his favorite song of his. he answered saying “It Matters To Me” and then noted that he didn’t sing it for us and apologized.  I decided to leave as he was getting asked what his first song he ever sung was,  as he was doing an autograph signing after and it was waaaaaaaaaay down the hall and I didn’t want to get stuck in a stampede once everyone was leaving.

I was surprised there was such a crowd already in line, once again about 50 people, when I had only seen a few others “sneak” out.  Jason had said during his performance he would be taking photos and signing, and it seemed like they had a professional photographer taking a lot of photos.  Then when it was almost our turn to get up there they said pictures OF him, not with him.  We said ok and I figured a picture of me facing him while he signed was better than nothing – but after he saw the flash go off he decided to pose! So I have a photo of me looking at him and one of us looking at the camera.  Thanks Jason for breaking the rules haha  They should have been more consistent with that from the beginning, because it is hard to say “ok” to not getting a picture with him, when everyone in front of you got a picture with him!

Jason’s performance was awesome – I think he sounded much stronger since his Idol days though he is still a bit awkward on stage. (But that is just part of his appeal)  His guitarist (Steve?) noted that off stage he told really great jokes and yet when he gets on stage it’s like a switch goes off and Jason said that everyone makes him nervous, but we were making him comfortable and that is why he was joking/talking so much.

A few photos under the cut!

Something involving either peanut butter or oreo cookies mixed in with vanilla ice cream

3. PINK HOUSES “There’s a black man with a black cat livin’ in a black neighborhood
He’s got an interstate runnin’ through his front yard, You know he thinks that he’s got it so good

What is your best “pick up” line?
LOL I don’t think I have any pick up lines, let alone a best one.

6. CRUMBLIN DOWN “Saw my picture in the paper, Read the news around my face, And now some people don’t want to treat me the same”
Were you ever in the newspaper, on TV or the radio?
All 3.  I was in the paper a lot when I was a kid, on TV for that too and then in various shots from concerts (I don’t think I ever actually spoke on TV) and I’ve been on the radio for calling in and then in August when I went to see Hanson I was on the radio answering a question.

Have you ever smoked? What is your favorite smoking product. Cigar? Cigarette?
I have never smoked.

8. AUTHORITY SONG “Well, I fight authority, Authority always wins

What is the best part about living in a small town?
I guess technically I live in a small time and I HATE it. So I’m not sure exactly what the best thing would be. Everyone knows everyone’s business and it’s just ridiculous lol

11. CHERRY BOMB “That’s when a smoke was a smoke,
And groovin’ was groovin’, And dancin’ meant everything, We were young and we were improvin’, Laughin’, laughin’ with our friends”
When and where was the last dance you attended?

I’m not sure I have one. I told you, borrring.

13. CHECK IT OUT “A million young poets, Screamin’ out their words, Maybe someday, Those words will be heard, By future generations, Ridin’ on the highways that we built”
Do you have a favorite poem or at least a favorite poet?
Does Hanson count? I mean, technically, if you strip their songs of music and they just become words they are poems in a way, right?  Otherwise I am not one for poetry.

Why I love Disqus

Disqus (pronounced ‘discuss’) is the new blog comment system I set up a while back.  I love it.  It might not be practical for some other blogs, but for mine it is perfect.  I like it a lot more than the default comment system blogger offers – mainly because it allows you to “reply” to comments and have them be nested rather than just leave another comment below.  But this past week I have learned another reason why I love it.

I can delete comments and mark them as spam by email!  I am not always home when I check my email.  All of it goes to my phone (in fact, I have reached the “limit” of email addresses a blackberry can have between all the emails with all my sites) so if I am out shopping or out doing whatever it is I do, I can reply and it gets taken care of immediately.  With blogger comments, I’d have to log in to my account from my browser and go in to the post and delete it – this is not something I have time for when I am out!  (Unless I’m sitting through a really boring opening act)

This became clear when yesterday I got 2 spam comments.  From the same person, but on two separate posts.  The first one came through on a disqus post.  I replied “SPAM” and ta-da, disqus marked it as spam and deleted the comment from the post.  The second one was on a Would You Rather post, which was set up before I made to switch to Disqus, so they still use blogger’s system.  I was pretty much stuck until I got home and could go to the post in question while logged in and delete it from blogger.  Meanwhile, this spam was there for all to see.  Fortunately, it wasn’t anything inappropriate.
