Product Review: MaskIT

I recently had the chance to try out MaskIT which is a specially designed product that offers a practical and sanitary solution for the disposal of soiled feminine hygiene products.  These are great if you are on the go – whether it be at a friends house or in public where the toilet doesn’t have one of those special little trash cans inside of it.  MaskIT offers an intuitive use for women through its pocket technology which makes it super easy to grab a used pad or tampon while protecting the hand.  With a unique inversion process, these items are then closed in and sealed off in a small pouch that prevents leaking and blocks smells.

It did take me a couple of tries to figure out how to best use these products – but once I got the hang of it, I was quite impressed.  All the used products are closed right up in to the pouch so that you can discretely dispose of them and anyone else who may use the bathroom after you won’t know all of your business! MaskIT is proud to provide a product that is made out of a certified compostable Biofilm and is 100% made in the USA.  MaskIT officially launched on September 15th and is now available on Amazon and through select retailers across the country.

Find out more at www.maskit.us

(For demonstration purposes I used a balled up tissue and not a used feminine hygiene product. I think you can all use your imagination to see how the tissue could be replaced with a tampon or a pad.  MaskIT comes in two sizes – a smaller one for tampons (the one I used for the demonstration) and a larger one for pads.)

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Disney Trip: Magic Kingdom

Our first day at Disney we decided to go to the the Magic Kingdom. I had not been in 15 years and neither my friend Maribeth nor I had seen New Fantasyland.  We opted to skip rope drop to sleep in a bit, but managed to get there just a bit after opening anyway.  We rented my scooter and got “celebrating” pins from a cast member that was from PA (where Maribeth is from and where a lot of CM seemed to be from that we encountered lol) and headed to Main Street.

We did a Memory Maker share so instead of paying $150 for the Memory Maker package we split it with several other families.  So our first photo of the day was between the pumpkins (everything was decorated for Halloween) with the castle in the back.  Then we made our way up to the castle, got another photo from a photopass photographer and headed to Buzz’s ride which we had a fast pass for.  I had read a cheat online about how to get max points on this ride but apparently did not remember it as I should have because Maribeth kicked my butt! After we got off the ride, Buzz had just come out to do his M&G so he was our first character meet. I had also spotted Stitch, but unfortunately by the time we got through Buzz’s line (which was pretty quick) he was long gone.

Next we did Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor which was a lot of fun because they really get the audience involved.  Our first 3 rides / shows we ended up getting one of the red time keeper cards which has to be some sort of a new record! 😉

After our time in Tomorrowland we went back up to the castle and there was a dance party going on in the hub. We got more photos taken by the castle from a different angle and then headed to New Fantasyland. Our other 2 fast passes were Enchanted Tales with Belle (more geared towards little kids who want to be in the show they put on for Belle, but worth it to see the animatronic Lumiere that is incredibly impressive!)  and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.  We also had a fast pass for lunch at Be Our Guest which was so amazingly well done you really feel like you stepped right into the movie!

We tried 4 times to meet Gaston – but the first time he was walking away as we arrived, one time the line was cut and then the weather just was not working in our favor after that.  We did stop to meet Ariel in her grotto though because that was pretty high on my must-do list – I really wanted to see her in her fin!

At around 3 we wanted to head to main street for the parade, but it looked like it was going to rain.  We stopped and grabbed our rain gear just in time as the skies opened up and we had trouble finding a spot to hide. Finally we did and waited out the rain storm.  Then we rode It’s a Small World until it was time for the Mine Train.  The ride was very short, but the 7 dwarfs are my favorite so I loved it. The animatronic dwarfs were amazing and the witch at the end made me jump haha.

We also rode DUMBO which sends you through a play area that was obviously geared for those a bit younger than us 😉  Fortunately our ticket to Dumbo buzzed within a few minutes of us hanging around in there.  After that ride it seemed like it was going to pour again so we ducked into a store and put on hats to take pictures and kill time and then found a plug in the corner to charge phones.  We were discussing maybe riding Pirates when a cast member said he had fast passes and gave them to us! Awesome!

From the store we headed down to Haunted Mansion where we had gotten a 4th fast pass for.  The line was long and we considered not even getting on, but then they started letting everyone in again and things moved quickly.  Good thing we decided to get on the ride because we ended up being on the ride with Hanson!  When we stopped to get photos with the photo pass photographer the whole family walked by us. How cool!  (We didn’t bother them as they were with their families and we figured it was not the time or the place!)

After Haunted Mansion we ended up BACK in Fantasyland to ride the teacups and Ariel’s ride. (She told us that it was a good ride except for Ursula’s singing)

After that Maribeth rode Pirates but I sat it out because I wasn’t sure I was up to get in to another boat ride.  We had to go around and a head of the parade to get there.  Then we grabbed a spot for the 2nd showing of the parade and got to see part of the fireworks (though not from a great angle, but we had to sacrifice a bit if we wanted a good spot for the parade!)

After the parade we made our way to the exit, returned the scooter and headed to our resort bus.  It seemed like once midnight hit – our day went downhill.  We were a bit exhausted and minding our own business in the bus line when something landed on my head. I turned to Maribeth and asked her to help me and her response was “that’s a big bug!” She hit me on the head with our poncho bag and a FROG was on the ground.  Yes, a FROG jumped on my head.  We have no idea where he came from and then I was scared to walk past him to get on the bus because I thought that he was going to jump on me again! He ended up jumping off to the side and I heard a little girl shriek – here’s hoping he didn’t actually land on her too!

Next week I will recap our first day at EPCOT!

Book Review: The Color Wheel

colorwheelShort and sweet book but packed with a lot of great tips about colors! As a scrapbooker I am often looking for complimentary colors for my layout and keeping this book handy will definitely help with that! The book breaks down primary, secondary and intermediate colors as well as complimentary colors – something that I try to use in scrapbooking but sometimes am not sure what goes with what. The book is short but is full of great detail and breaks down everything you need and want to know about the color wheel!

Try It Tuesday: Make Your Own Disney Shirt #1

For our trip to Disney, we decided to do custom handmade t-shirts for the 2 EPCOT / HANSON days.  The first shirt I did completely by hand – the Hanson Symbol and a Minnie Mouse head.  I printed out all the pieces about the size I would need and was ready to go.

I was able to put the print outs under the white t-shirts and outline everything in pencil.  Then for what seemed like days and days I slowly painted everything in.  I’d let it dry and touch up.  Then when I took them off the cardboard I had underneath and held them up to the light – more missing spots!

It was pretty time consuming, but I’m happy with how these turned out!

Music Monday: Weird Al Mandatory Fun

weirdal

Handy (Fancy)
Lame Claim to Fame (style parody of Southern Culture on the Skids)
Foil (Royals)
Sports Song (style parody of football fight songs)
Word Crimes (Blurred Lines)
My Own Eyes (style parody of Foo Fighters)
Now That’s What I Call Polka! (medley)
Mission Statement (style parody of Crosby, Stills & Nash)
Inactive (Radioactive)
First World Problems (style parody of Pixies)
Tacky (Happy)
Jackson Park Express (style parody of Cat Stevens)

Mandatory Fun is the latest release from Weird Al, and his first #1!  Before the release he was putting out a song a day – and it was at this point that I heard “Word Crimes” and declared it my favorite song – EVER.  There are a lot of pet peeves that I have with language and he seems to touch on all of them in this song. (Most recently the overabundance of incorrect usage of the word “literally” which has gotten so bad it is put in the dictionary incorrectly now!!)  After listening to the entire CD – Word Crimes is still my favorite – although Now That’s What I Call Polka might be a close second.

The only song on the CD I found worthy of a “skip” was Foil – a parody of Lorde’s Royals, but that could just be because I’ve heard the original far too many times.

I’ve been listening to Weird Al since i was a kid and I can’t say I remember “style parodies” on his other CDs (not to say they aren’t there) but I wasn’t sure at first how I’d like these without an original song to compare them to – but with the exception of Jackson Park Express (which is just very long and very, very weird) these were also some of my favorites on the album.

I’m going to have to give Al 5 out of 5 stars.

Product Review: Chalkboard Labels & Chalk Pen

Have you ever known you needed an item, but weren’t sure exactly what that was until you came across it?  I have the Scrapbox Workbox and there are little cut outs to put labels in so you can label all of your compartments. But the compartments didn’t come with anything cut to the right size and I found myself folding post it notes to stick in the compartments.  There is one section of the scrapbox where I put in stickers, paper, pictures, etc for items that need to be scrapped – such as big trips where it is not just a ticket stub and some photos. Then as I get around to scrapping it, it gets replaced for another trip. So the labels I want need to be something that I can update over and over again as it changes from Hanson trip to Hanson trip (let’s be real, those are the only trips I take anymore!)

Enter Chalkboard Labels from MagicMil! The smaller labels that they have are absolutely perfect size to stick on the outside of where the label belongs, they look SO fancy and totally spruced up the look of my compartments AND you write on the labels with chalk so once that trip is scrapped, wipe the label down with a wet towel and you’re good to go with writing on the label for the next trip! The larger labels are also great for keeping kitchens or bathrooms organized, although I haven’t gotten around to doing that quite yet.

Each label has a self-adhesive back and allow for easy organization! The set comes with 48 Chalkboard labels that are broken down to:

12 – Large 3.5″ x 2″
18 – Medium 2.5″ x 1.5″
18 – Small 1.8″ x 1″
Chalk Pen

These labels are Freezer and Dishwasher safe for simple storage and cleaning.  Be sure to check out the before and after to see the transformation that came from adding these stickers to my scrapbox! Just think what transformations rooms around your house can take with these beautiful labels!  The gallery below shows what I’ve done with my labels as well as a couple of ideas that I was sent from the company – which I may consider doing as well.  These labels are just so cute and decorative they can spruce up anything you stick them to, and they keep you organized at the same time!

Book Review: SECRET Revealed

secretIn February of 2013 I reviewed the first book in the S.E.C.R.E.T series.  S.E.C.R.E.T Revealed is the 3rd book and I Have not yet read S.E.C.R.E.T Shared, the 2nd book.  This book alternates between Cassie, who was featured in the first book as well and Solange, a TV news personality who is a new recruit into S.E.C.R.E.T.  Each chapter alternates back and forth although their stories do intertwine a bit as well since they are both members of S.E.C.R.E.T.  Throughout the book there are mentions that Solange may be the last women to pass through because there has been some trouble with funding.  No matter what happens – this is the finale of the series so I was prepared for either ending.

Cassie is currently partners with her ex, Will, at a restaurant named after her and she is seeing Jesse – who is one of the guys also involved with S.E.C.R.E.T and making fantasies come true.  S.E.C.R.E.T is an underground group devoted to helping women experience their deepest sexual fantasies, by hot men who are recruited into the group. Solange is a divorced mom and her love life has seen better days.  But she seems a bit hesitant to accept the steps into S.E.C.R.E.T.  Will she follow through and complete all her steps?

While I don’t know if I ever would have initially picked up the first book in this series if the cover hadn’t drawn me in, I am not glad I found this series (and my have to go back and read #2 should it pop up for review).  It is a great erotic romance book and it gets right to the action – I think it started around page 2 – so there is no need for me to whine about how I had to waste my time reading half the book for a backstory. (It could also be because this is the 3rd in the series there isn’t a great need for back story!)

The back of the book also has some reading guide Q’s should you want to make it a girls weekend book club read!

I received a free e-copy of this book from bloggingforbooks in order to write this review. I was not otherwise compensated.

About the Book

SECRET Revealed bares all–the final book in the hot bestselling series.
The only thing that Cassie Robichaud has ever really wanted is Will Foret, the love of her life. But when Will discovers that Cassie is part of S.E.C.R.E.T., an underground group devoted to helping women experience their deepest sexual fantasies, Will breaks it off. Heartbroken, Cassie dries her tears and devotes herself to helping the latest S.E.C.R.E.T. recruit, Solange Faraday. Cassie also reignites her relationship with sexy bad-boy Jesse, even if he can never love her as deeply as Will did.
Meanwhile, beautiful, brilliant Solange, a local news anchor and divorced mom, has a great career but a wilting love life. She rekindles long-lost passions, going deeper and hotter than any other S.E.C.R.E.T. candidate before her. Will she find what her heart most desires? And when Will realizes he’s made a tragic mistake, will Cassie be able to forgive him? In the end, as both women blossom as sexual beings, they also discover that ecstasy and true love are closer than they ever imagined.
SECRET Revealed is the explosive, sensual and sexually-charged finale to the bestselling S.E.C.R.E.T. trilogy.

Book Review: The Beatles: Here, There & Everywhere

beatlesI’ve read quite a few books about the Beatles.  But I can’t recall any that had almost as many photos as text.  Which, if you’ve read any of my reviews before, you know is a good thing.  When the photos can almost tell the story on their own, I love it.  There wasn’t much new information in the book – but there were a lot of photos that I hadn’t seen before.  If you are a Beatles fan, you don’t want to miss out on this book.

Book Review: Cosby

cosbyWhen I was little, I saw Bill Cosby on the cover of TV Guide and thought he was my grandfather.  Since all my grandparents have died I decided that I can pick new celebrity grandparents – so of course I chose Bill Cosby as one of my fake grandfathers! There is now a biography out all about Bill.  It has been compiled by interviews with Bill himself as well as with SIXTY of his closest friends. I don’t know about you, but I think that means that it will pretty much cover everything about his life in great detail.

Cosby has led quite a life, so it is no surprise that this book clocks in at over 500 pages! It’s really hard to sum up everything in just a few words for this review, but if you are a fan of Bill or want to know more about his life and career, then you certainly should read this book because I don’t think you will find a more accurate and thorough representation of his life anywhere else.

I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review. I was not otherwise compensated.

About the Book

The first major biography of an American icon, comedian Bill Cosby. Based on extensive research and in-depth interviews with Cosby and more than sixty of his closest friends and associates, it is a frank, fun and fascinating account of his life and historic legacy.

Far from the gentle worlds of his routines or TV shows, Cosby grew up in a Philadelphia housing project, the son of an alcoholic, largely absent father and a loving but overworked mother. With novelistic detail, award winning journalist Mark Whitaker tells the story of how, after dropping out of high school, Cosby turned his life around by joining the Navy, talking his way into college, and seizing his first breaks as a stand-up comedian.

Published on the 30th anniversary of The Cosby Show, the book reveals the behind-the-scenes story of that groundbreaking sitcom as well as Cosby’s bestselling albums, breakout role on I Spy, and pioneering place in children’s TV. But it also deals with professional setbacks and personal dramas, from an affair that sparked public scandal to the murder of his only son, and the private influence of his wife of fifty years, Camille Cosby.

Whitaker explores the roots of Cosby’s controversial stands on race, as well as “the Cosby effect” that helped pave the way for a black president. For any fan of Bill Cosby’s work, and any student of American television, comedy, or social history, Cosby: His Life and Times is an essential read.
