Book Review: Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords, 4th Edition

adwordsWhile this book speaks more towards using Google AdWords to sell your product, a lot of the techniques can probably be used to help get hits to blogs that have great content even if they aren’t selling something as well.  The book has a lot of content, 36 chapters. It starts with “Wait! Before You Read This Book…” with how to read it if you are a veteran or a beginner with AdWords and also has supplemental material for you to check out.

You can and should use this book as a guide before spending your money.  There are lots and lots of tips to help you plan out what you want to do so that you can use your money in the most effective way.  There’s information in here that Google won’t tell you and how to make sure that your niche gets seen.

A lot of great information, though a bit overwhelming. If I decide to use AdWords I will probably skim through this book a couple of more times to make sure that I am approaching everything the right way!

Book Review: Reforming the Rock Star

reformingReforming the Rock Star is another Head Over Heels Novel.  I previously read Resisting the Musician which is another book from this series.  In this book, we are with Laz – who replaced Dash in the band from the previous book. Syd doesn’t want to spend time in her hometown for her best friend Callie’s wedding.  Or rather, she wants to spend as little time as possible.  Then she finds out that they want her to do a lot of the catering for the wedding so she’ll be forced to stick around for much longer than she had been anticipating.  After making all the food for the bachelor party, she meets Laz,  who is in the band with the groom, Jake.  Somehow, Syd ends up in bed with Laz after he is drunk – though nothing happens – other than a kiss.  But then Laz decides that he wants to take her out on a date. She agrees and it is clear that he is into her, but she isn’t sure she’s as into him because of his lifestyle.  The end up hooking up after the date, he saves her from some high school bitches and things seem to be going well for them.  That is until Syd catches Laz with someone else in his bed…

Will that be the end of their relationship or will they realize that they are both in love with each other and really work well with each other? Well, you’re going to have to read and find out!

About the Book

When Sydney Metcalf’s bestie asks her to cater her wedding, Syd can’t say no, even though the thought of going back to her hometown makes her break out in hives. She’s off to a great start until best man and rock god Lazlo Stone calls with a request for her to cater the bachelor party too. Petit fours adorned with rose petals, she can handle. A cake shaped like boobs for the sexiest guy in the universe? She’s not so sure. But this is the chance of a lifetime and she refuses to screw it up by being a prude…

When a sexy stripper dressed as a Plain Jane crashes the bachelor party, Laz is all about getting vertical and making some music with her. Too bad his stripper is really the caterer and the bride’s best friend. After a kiss between them blazes out of control, he can’t seem to stop thinking about sweet little Syd.

But everybody knows, life on the road and love don’t mix…

Book Review: A Coney Island Reader

coneyA visit to Coney Island has been on my Bucket List for years. It is so close, I don’t know why I haven’t bothered to make the trip there yet!  But for now, I will live vicariously through A Coney Island Reader.  The book begins with a timeline and has a ton of history throughout the 300+ pages and some wonderful photographs too.  Coney Island is the home of Nathan’s Hotdogs and the yearly hot dog eating contest. (I’m not sure I want to visit to witness that though!)

It was great to see and read about all the history that is at Coney Island.  I just love the old photos of what it looked like in the early 1900s!  Each essay throughout the book is by a different author and features a different part of Coney Island.

And now I want to visit all the more! Take some awesome photos, ride some rides, catch a ball game…

About the Book

Featuring a stunning gallery of portraits by the world’s finest poets, essayists, and fiction writers — including Walt Whitman, Stephen Crane, José Martí, Maxim Gorky, Federico García Lorca, Isaac Bashevis Singer, E. E. Cummings, Djuna Barnes, Colson Whitehead, Robert Olen Butler, and Katie Roiphe — this anthology is the first to focus on the unique history and transporting experience of a beloved fixture of the New York City landscape.

Moody, mystical, and enchanting, Coney Island has thrilled newcomers and soothed native New Yorkers for decades. With its fantasy entertainments, renowned beach foods, world-class boardwalk, and expansive beach, it provides a welcome respite from the city’s dense neighborhoods, unrelenting traffic, and somber grid. Coney Island has long offered a kaleidoscopic panorama of people, places, and events, creating, as Lawrence Ferlinghetti once wrote, “a Coney Island of the mind.” This anthology captures the highs and lows of that sensation, with works that imagine Coney Island as a restful resort, a playground for the masses, and a symbol of America’s democratic spirit, as well as a Sodom by the sea, a garish display of capitalist excess, and a paradigm of urban decay. As complex as the city of which it is a part, Coney Island engenders limitless perspectives, a composite inspiring everyone who encounters it to sing its electric song.

Book Review: Barely Legal

barelylegalBarely Legal is Book 1 of 6 in a “serial”.  After reading it I decided I will be avoiding any further serials unless I have all of them to read at once, because this one just left me with a cliffhanger and incredibly confused.

The book is about Laura Turner, a lawyer, who has apparently been involved with some sort of kinky sex death.  She gets a text from a “P” asking her to meet him.  Then he sends her to an apartment where there is a mold of her breasts and every dress fits her perfectly.

She trusts a neighbor and ends up “abducted” in their apartment by Michael’s sister – Michael the one who was killed during whatever this sex act was.

Oh, and this “P” is apparently super sexy and made her do things to herself over the phone with just a tie…

I’m not sure I will bother reading any of the future books in this serial as this one left me with a cliffhanger and too many questions…

About the Book

For Laura Turner, helping others had been her way of coping and forgetting a past so painful, she had to hide it from the ones she loved or risk going insane. Helping her best friend Serena Singleton start a new life free from a dark past, made her feel she was helping herself move forward.

Laura, whose family ran in the same circle as billionaire composer Sebastian Sorensen and lived a life many would envy, had secrets of her own, and it had been years since she’d lived free of the same addiction that consumed her friend Serena.

When Laura moved to Los Angeles to work at a law firm who hired her to start even without her passing the bar, she meets the mysterious and sexy Peter Townshend, whose irresistible charm and take charge personality brings out a part of her she had hidden for years.

Hidden behind a wall of secrets and giving her his orders, she only has his seductive voice to guide her to do his bidding. He knows all her buttons. He knows all about her.

He knows she’s been a bad girl.

He knows good girls do bad things sometimes…even things that are…

Barely Legal.

New Adult Contemporary Romance Suspense Serial that will be 6 books.

This series is a separate series from The Protege Series, but is related.

Recap:  What would turn out to be my last NSYNC show… Also the first time I got to meet Tony Lucca and Joey’s dad!  We left before PDiddy’s set so that we could meet Tony and Joe Sr.  Came back in during PDiddy’s set and it was dark. I was convinced we’d never find our way back to our seats but as we were going up the stairs PDiddy asked to turn the house lights on.  How nice of him!

I also had a pretty good zoom (film) camera at this time and I remember everyone being impressed at how “good” the pictures were. (They are horrible by today’s standards but awesome for 2002 fan girl standards!)

Where Are They Now:

NSYNC is still on hiatus. I continue to hold out hope for a reunion tour or even a single reunion show.

Tony Lucca was more recently on The Voice and has been releasing albums via kickstarter and other fan funded endeavors.

Not So Boyband pretty much disappeared after this tour.

PDiddy has probably changed his name 18 more times since 2002…

Justin Timberlake December 13, 2014

Saturday night Justin Timberlake once again brought his tour to the Mohegan Sun Arena.  For this show I decided to go VIP, but since I bought the last ticket for the cheapest package – I figured I’d be in the last row.  Of course, when I opened my ticket envelope and saw “Row A” I had a moment of panic, but it turns out that with the set up – Section 6 Row A was actually the last row!  But, let’s explain a few things here.  There were “only” 15 rows on the floor.  Then there were the expensive VIP tables and behind that the VIP Pit area.  And the great part about Justin’s show is that he comes to hang out in the back for a while – which happened to be right behind my row – so for a little part of the show I was technically front row!

I have not stood for an entire concert in quite some time, so I knew that I was going to be in for a rude awakening and that I probably wouldn’t have many chances to sit and still be able to see during Justin’s set.  I made it through most of the first half of the show standing – but decided if Justin was sitting to play the piano, then I’d have a seat too.  Fortunately, halfway through there is also an intermission so it was nice to have time to recharge a bit then too.  But the highlight was when he was in the “back” and I was able to sit the whole time and have a clear view of him.

The show was pretty similar to July’s show – except of course for when he was interacting with the crowd.  A T-shirt was thrown at him and he was teasing about how he did such a great job of catching it.  Then he asked if he should open it now and I guess was told yes.  He opened it and said “Oh, it’s you” and that the front of the shirt was a picture of her front and the back of the shirt was a picture of her booty.  Then he teased that he wouldn’t have to explain that at all!  Next an ugly Christmas sweater was thrown on stage and he said that he hoped the girls would take it as a compliment that it was UGLY. He asked about the battery life on the Christmas lights and if it would last him through the holiday season or not.  Later in the show he saw people facetiming the concert and said hello to the girl on the other end of the phone. He was teasing that they probably could have afforded to buy 2 more tickets.

He puts on a great show, but I can’t help but miss NSYNC when I see him!

TIC All Star Christmas Concert

Friday night was the 2014 TIC All Star Christmas concert. If you remember, last year we had HORRIBLE weather but the show still went on – and I went – but spent the night at a family friend who lived not very far from the venue.  This year the weather was much, much better though there were snowflakes here and there as I was driving to the show.

A couple weeks ago they announced that the JERSEY BOYS would be opening the show, to help promote that the show was coming to Oakdale in February. At first I was psyched because Drew Seeley is currently touring in Jersey Boys, but then I realized that with his tour schedule there was no way it was his boys at the show. And I was right.  They did a few medleys to kick off the show and they did a $20 off promotion on tickets for February.

Then it was time for Echosmith – they did a short set of 4 or 5 songs, one of which they had Pat Monahan from Train join them on.  They also kept asking people to stand like every other song because no one was really up to standing in the beginning of the show.

I was quite surprised that Matt Nathanson, pretty much the reason why I went to the show this year, was the next act to perform. He was super amusing, as usual.  He started his set with the song “Kinks Shirt” which he said he wrote about a relationship but later explained that he imagined it all and the girl he wrote it about had no idea until he mentioned it in an article.  Then he went in to his song Headphones, which I still absolutely love.  Next up he said that he had to warm us up faster because it was a shorter set and said if he started playing a song – would we sing it? He started playing Sweet Child O Mine and the look on his face of pure SHOCK when everyone started singing it was worth the price of admission.  Then he had us put our ARMS UP! To clap for Faster and said we could sit if we wanted but we had to dance in the chorus in our seats like our underwear were made of jello and we were at Mardi Gras. A few people nearby didn’t do anything during the song and he totally embarrassed them when he called them out.  He also did Come On Get Higher with a You’re the One That I Want sing along and then finished the night with another song where the crowd sang most of it – AC/DCs You Shook Me All Night Long. (And somehow I know way more of that song that I thought I did!)

Then it was time for Ingrid Michaelson. Her set was 40 minutes and she kept mentioning how there was a clock in front of her that was counting down how much time she had left and how much she had already played. A couple of times she just counted with it and mentioned that it was distracting. I didn’t keep track of her setlist, but I believe she did: Be Ok, Winter Song, Mele Kalikimaka, Parachute, Time Machine, The Way I Am & Girls Chase Boys. There may have been more than that too. She talked about how that morning she was in New York City for a Women’s event and saw Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande (she said she’s an elf child but a hot one), and Beyonce – but none of them saw her.  She also had on a pretty awesome dress that she said her cousin made for her – and was quick to point out that we shouldn’t worry because she had shorts on underneath.  During one of the lulls, a group started singing Happy Birthday to her – she seemed very surprised by it (her birthday was 2 days before) and said that had never happened to her before! But she became my personal hero when she stopped a song to be a bitch to some woman who was being SUPER loud.  I didn’t realize that she could be heard on stage too (she was a ways behind me!) but I guess so because she told her to be quiet during the quiet song and could go back to being loud later.  (But really – if you go to a show and there is an act you don’t care about? You have 2 options. Sit there and take it in – maybe you’ll be surprised. OR go to the freaking lobby and chit chat with your friends if it is THAT important that you have a conversation at that moment)

After Ingrid it was time for Daughtry – who had quite the beard going on. They started their set with Feels Like Tonight and had a more broken down acoustic set up for the evening.  Then they did It’s Not Over and Battleships. After that they were all pelted with Christmas hats (Chris said that the girl who threw them had good aim – I did see she hit the keyboardist square in the chest with his) they put them on but then said they’d wait because the christmas song was not the next song in the set. Next they did a cover of Wicked Games – which Chris said was a song that he wished he had written.  Then the Santa hats went back on for a cover of Elvis’ Blue Christmas. They finished out the set with Over You, Home, September and Waiting For Superman.

Closing out the show was Train. They sang lots of songs and I thought about how I have seen them 6 times, yet can not stand them.  I did consider leaving in the middle of the set but wasn’t sure if they’d pull any of the other artists out on stage again and if they did, I didn’t want to miss it. (They didn’t.)  But there was a boy in the front row who was a BIG fan and pure entertainment for me the entire show – so it was nice to see him enjoying the show. Pat grabbed his hand a few times and they even blew each other kisses. It was really sweet.

I pulled this setlist from a different show but it seems about right

Try It Tuesday: SVG for the Cameo

SVGs are Scalable Vector Graphics which can be used with the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition. (This is an upgrade you need to purchase and doesn’t come with the Silhouette Studio download. I’ve heard of people getting their version from anywhere from $4.99 to about $50 – shop around you can probably find it in the $30 range)

You can make your own SVGs using the “Trace” tool in the Silhouette Studio software or you can use Inkscape (I made a tutorial a few years back on how to make custom shapes using Inkscape)  Alternately there are a lot of places on the internet where you can buy SVGs or if you find the right place, maybe even find some for free.

This post I am only showing files that I have purchased from PPBN Designs which is personally my favorite spot to get SVGs from – but I do use several other sites as well and am dabbling in creating more complicated designs myself. (Look for some posts of me explaining how I did them in the new year – provided it works out!)

Since my next big trip to scrap is Disney – that has been the items I have focused on, but with my membership to PPBN I am developing quite the collection of cute designs – just have  to find the right time to use them!

To cut them, I sort out all the pieces by color and then find a matching (or close to it) color from my paper stash.  One day I cut out 30 different Disney related images and then sorted out all the tiny pieces on the big reading chair in my room and then over the next few days pieced them all together (those are the ones featured in the photo album below).  Sometimes I will cut out just 1 character though I find it is best to do it in multiples (or cut out multiples of the same character for cards, etc.) so that you don’t have as much paper waste.

I have been using the Xyron Sticker Maker to put them together, but recently got a Zig pen to help out with any smaller pieces. Look for a post on that and the pros and cons soon 🙂

Product Review: Rear View Monitor Mirror

Recently I found myself in a new office, where the coffee and water were right behind me.  This led to a lot of people “sneaking up behind me” whether they meant to or not. I have a tendency of getting really wrapped up in things and being oblivious to what is going on around me and often find myself jumping out of my skin when someone stops by to say “hello”.  I decided that one of the best ways to combat this was to get a Rear View Mirror for my computer monitor! The monitor worked great and it was easy to see who was behind my and might be approaching my desk.  It is small and light weight so if I wanted to transport it to and from work each day (in case someone would want to steal it!) I could.  It sat without problem on top of my monitor and would fit on a laptop as well.  If you work in an office setting where people are going behind you – you certainly need this in your life.  If you have a home office and need “eyes on the back of your head” to keep an eye on your kids or pets – this will help with that as well!

My Dad has a different rear view mirror for his monitor at work and has said that this one is much better because it gives you a larger area of mirror than the tiny one that he has – which he has positioned in such a way in order to be able to see that it actually blocks the small “x” in the corner of his windows.  With this rear view mirror propped on top of the monitor you will not have those problems!

Think that this is the office product that you’ve been looking for? Be sure to buy yourself one on Amazon: Rear View Monitor Mirror

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Anna Todd After

Today I am posting to let you all know about a new book that I’m excited to read soon called After.  It was written by Anna Todd just as a hobby on her PHONE! Now it’s being turned into a four-book series by famed publisher Simin & Schuster and the first book came out just a couple of months ago, in October.

Anna Todd

Anna Todd is a 25-year-old One Direction Fan. (Me too! ha, jk.)  She was able to combine her love for the boyband to create After on Wattpad.  If you’re not familiar with Wattpad (and I wasn’t before finding out about this book series) it is an app that you can use to read, write, and share stories. (What kind of writer am I that I didn’t know about this app?!)  Her username on the app was Imaginator1D!  Every few days a new installment would be posted on Wattpad and before Anna knew it the story was over 2,500 pages long and has been viewed more than a BILLION times! Whoa!

Find her on Wattpad as Imaginator1D: http://www.wattpad.com/user/imaginator1D
Twitter at @Imaginator1Dx https://twitter.com/imaginator1dx
Instagram at @Imaginator1D http://instagram.com/imaginator1d

After is about a young girl named Tessa and her on-again / off-again relationship with Hardin Scott who is inspired by – you guessed it – One Direction member Harry Styles!  Tessa is a freshman at Washington State University and tells the story of her and the dark, troubled British Bad Boy (Hardin) who has stolen her heart. The first installment went on sale October 1, 2014 and the print edition is available in 26 countries.

And if you’re curious like I was – here’s some more details on Wattpad. (Which I will be signing up for as soon as I finish this post!)

With Wattpad you can read and share stories from any of your mobile devices or computers. You don’t need to be online to use the deices to carry an entire library of stories with you wherever you go!

There is a direct connection between readers nad writers. Some people may not identify with being a writer – but they can share plot suggestions via comments & message or even create original artwork or music to go along with what they are reading!

Readers will receive a notification whenever a new chapter of a story is posted. Many writers post one chapter at a time to keep readers coming back. As soon as a story is uploaded it can be accessed by millions of readers from all around the world!

You can purchase the book from Barnes & Noble and for your E-Reader at the following links:

I participated in the After by Anna Todd blog program as a member of One2One Network. I was provided a copy of the book but all opinions are my own.
