Christine’s Bridgeport American Idol Photos

Since I couldn’t make it to the Idol show in Bridgeport, I had my “beat reporter” Christine attend so I could provide coverage.  😉 After the show she was able to meet Lee (though no photos with him were allowed)  Andrew, Aaron, Katie, and our fellow Hanson fan, Siobhan!

Below the cut are some of her photos – all she asks that if you post them elsewhere you credit her and do not try to pass them off as your own. (More photos can be found on her flickr! http://www.flickr.com/photos/velvetskies/)

The $6 photo

Yesterday I had to go down to Bridgeport to pick up the Idol tickets I had won to give them to a friend so they would get used.  While I was there I thought I would try my hand at meeting the Idols before the show once the buses arrived like I had done last year in Hartford.

When I arrived, I was able to pick up my tickets – which were AWESOME seats 🙁  Then I saw there was already a small crowd waiting, but no barricades were set up and there was no security – definitely a bad sign.

I decided I would wait until 2pm, and as I started to walk away (I was beginning to get sunburned and it was just way too hot out to be standing around) the buses were pulling into the venue riding along the street near me.  I decided to go back, but after 15 to 20 minutes decided it wasn’t worth it, I’d only be getting photos through the fence and definitely not any photos with Idols.

This afternoon I went to the CTPost website and saw that Connecticut’s own Katie Stevens had come out to sign and Big Mike did as well.  I am not sure if anyone else did, they didn’t have any other photos posted and I am not sure what time they ended up coming out either.

The parking garage was $6 for me to park which is why I call the photo above, “The $6 photo”

(On the plus side, I got word on the way up to see Jack Johnson that I had tickets for me at Mohegan Sun for Tuesday’s American Idol show – only problem is we don’t know where they keep the buses but I am going to head up there early anyway and hope that I can spot something or that someone will tweet a location!)

Also – Christine took some amazing photos during the show and said I can post some – so look out for those sometime soon 🙂

American Idol Shakeup

I, of course, won myself some tickets to see the American Idols Live show in Bridgeport, CT (possibly Katie Stevens hometown show?) in September.

Then last night Katie and the Arena at Harbor Yard tweeted that the show got changed to July 9th – aka the following Friday – aka the night I already have tickets to see Jack Johnson.

I had also been trying to win tickets to the Mohegan show July 13, but had no luck there.

I have contacted the contests I had won to see if there was any way I could “trade” tickets for the Mohegan show (not expecting much, but I figured it’s worth a shot) and told them if not to try and give the tickets away again as I am now no longer able to attend.  I am not to impressed that they decided to give everyone a WEEK notice on this switch and I am sure I will not be the only one unable to attend now. It is such a bummer.

If anyone has connections for tickets to the July 13th show – let me know!  I really don’t want to miss this tour but there isn’t much I can do about it!

There is also rumors that a bunch of shows are going to be canceled come Tuesday (something like 7 or 8) and that the tour itself might end up ending in August instead of September. (Good news for Lee and Crystal who will have more time to work on their albums – but bad news for all the fans!)

Seems like the touring industry is in for a big hit with the economy – and the high ticket prices aren’t really helping matters.  The Jonas Brothers also canceled a bunch of their dates and rerouted others (mine wasn’t affected) and other tours aren’t selling as well as anticipated either!

Carrie Underwood Media Post

A review and photos will be coming soon – but first here is a media post. I have clips of just about *every* song Carrie sang last night To say I got ‘carried’ away would be an understatement!

American Idol Thoughts

I keep meaning to blog about American Idol but then something comes up and I get distracted.

I really have no clear cut favorites – I am rooting for Katie Stevens since she is named Katie and from CT, like me, but she is really going to have to kick it up a notch to stick around to the tour. Same goes for Andrew Garcia – early on these two were my favorites but it seems possible that both of these artists peaked too early. We’ll have to see what they end up doing tonight. (Which I won’t be seeing until tomorrow, but that’s besides the point)

I also enjoy Siobahn Magnus. She can sing – and she’s a Hanson fan so I really can’t go wrong there. Casey James is also a favorite from early on – he’s cute and he seems to have been somewhat consistent.

As far as the eliminations last week – yes, I was shocked and yes I think a couple of them weren’t right. I am doing rickey.org’s office pool and for the girls I had picked Katelyn, Lacey and/or Paige to go home. I only got one right there – either of the other two I picked should have gone before Lilly, IMO.

For the boys I thought Todrick Hall and Aaron Kelly would be going home. Definitely did not expect Alex Lambert, though I do not support the petitions to bring him back. Odds are really good he wouldn’t win, so why put the poor kid through all that heart break AGAIN? I definitely agree he got a bad break, but that is the way the game is played. If he couldn’t get the votes to make it into the top 12, he wouldn’t get the votes to stick around for that long. (Although, maybe if he came back with a new hair do and last name, I’d like him more?)

I’m not sure if I will be blogging about Idol throughout the season – probably only when I have something I want to say… but I will most likely be live tweeting from the performances on @KatieSociety.

However, I am off to see Idol Alum Carrie Underwood tonight so I will have to catch up on everything tomorrow! Word on the street is Paige Miles might be to ill to perform! She has no voice… hmm.

Kara Dioguardi @ Lyman Center 11/20/09

Friday night, singer songwriter and American Idol judge Kara Dioguardi came to the Lyman Center at Southern Connecticut State University to talk a bit about her journey in to song writing as well as sing a few of the many, many songs she has written.

She talked about how she went to Duke to be a lawyer as that was what her parents wanted her to do and that her junior year decided it just was not for her and she wanted to be in music. She got her foot in the door by working at Billboard Magazine and learning the ins and outs of the music business.

While I am neither an aspiring singer or songwriter, it was still a very interesting talk and her main point was – if you can find what you love and make money doing it then you are golden. Which is great advice for anyone in any career path.

She was joined by Mitch Allan who used to be in the band SR-71. He was also a song writer and wrote the song 1985 which was later re-written a bit and released by Bowling For Soup. (He sang us the original which was a bit less radio friendly lol)

The night concluded with a Q&A; from the audience. One question was if the woman’s daughter could get an autograph and photo with Kara as they had driven *9* hours to be there for the event!

Setlist under the cut. No photos were allowed at the event.

Walk Away – Kelly Clarkson
Taking Chances – Celine Dion
Sober – Pink
Pieces of Me – Ashley Simpson
1985 – Bowling For Soup (Mitch Allan)
Ain’t No Other Man – Christina Aguilera
Lost – Faith Hill

Taking a gamble on the Idols

Decided to go up to Hartford today to try and meet the idols. Didn’t have tickets, but figured it was worth a gamble to see who we could meet before the show.

Temperature was in the 90s, but luckily most of the barricade area was in the shade. We snagged a nice spot in the middle of the barricades. But then the buses came (3 of them) and we allll had to move so they could get in to the garage. (They were SUPPOSED to go in an alternate entrance, but I’m not sure what happened with that)

We ended up at what we thought was the end of the line at the barricade, but when Michael Sarver came out, he came all the way to our end and we were the front! He said “They weren’t going to let us out, after what happened at the hotel” and I was like “why? what happened?” he turned around to sign more so I thought I wasn’t going to get a story, but then he turned to me and said that a guy and his daughter were at the hotel at 5 am and “they” don’t like when people show up at the hotel. And that he got kind of aggressive and said “we’re trying to sleep! How would you like it if I came to your house at 5am?” Which is generally my theory on hotels (I won’t go to their house, so why go to their hotel?)

Then he went through the whole line and like half an hour later (maybe less, but it seemed REALLY long) Danny Gokey came down. Got his signature, we asked him for a pic (me and the girl next to me) and he said he couldn’t do photos, he had press and was in a rush. So I thanked him for coming out and spending time with us since he didn’t have much time and he was like “Oh! No problem!” Like 5 people down from us, were a group of girls who had at LEAST 3 photos w/ Danny (and most signed) They gave him a build a bear and HE STARTED TAKING PICTURES WITH THEM.

If you don’t have enough time for pictures with everyone, DON’T take them with ANYONE! Especially not girls who already have several with you and were bragging about them all earlier. I get wanting to spend more time with them because you “know” them, but taking pictures with them was really pretty crappy, imo. So that definitely did NOT impress me and I am still not a Gokey fan. (I went in trying to be open minded and nice to all of them)

A little later, Matt Giraud showed up. Girl next to me got a pic w/ him and I asked him for one and I guess he didn’t understand me or hear me, because he was just like “nice to meet you” and left. He didn’t sign Lauren’s thing either and we tried to call him back, at least for the autograph, but no such luck. We were the end of the line for him though, so maybe he had press also, I don’t know. I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Around 3pm they said that was it and that it was “too hot” and no one else was coming out. OK, it wasn’t ‘too hot’ for us to be waiting in the 90* degree heat – and the area the Idols were in was pretty much shady and cool so THAT was a pretty lame excuse. Press, official M&G; coming up, etc. Fine.. but don’t make up stuff!

We’ll give it all a try next month, hopefully we can get at leassst a pic w/ Kris but I’m really not getting my hopes up at this point!

I don’t know how that happened…

Generally I am VERY up to date on what is going on with my favorite artists. But last night, when I was doing my random check to see who was coming to the local casinos – I noticed David Cook was listed! And tickets were already on sale! Turns out, they had gone on sale 9am yesterday. So I wasn’t *too* off with finding out, but all of the floor was already sold out 🙁

I got a ticket in the middle of the venue.. not too bad, but obviously I’d like to be closer. At least I’ll be there and it wasn’t entirely sold out though, right? So my 4th David Cook show will be at MGM / Foxwoods and with any luck I’ll play my new favorite game – Texas Tea – and win myself some $$ before the show? (Last time i played it I doubled my money)

In other news – I am considering upgrading my camera from 18x zoom to 26x zoom as an early birthday gift for myself. Im hoping to buy it after I get paid on Monday, hopefully itll come by next week and I can try it out with Demi Lovato and David Archuleta and see if it will be a good investment for concerts. If not, it’ll be going straight back to the store!

The Today Show – Concert Series with Kris Allen and Adam Lambert

Wednesday night Lauren and I ventured into NYC and met up with my friend Jaime who kindly let us crash at her apartment for the evening. (Thanks again, Jaime!) At about 11 we went to sleep – and at 3:45am our alarms were going off and it was time to wake up.

We left the apartment a little after 4am and ended up in line for the concert at 5am. There we maybe 50 people in front of us, which wasn’t bad at all!

Around 6am we were let in to the “pens” as they call them, right in front of the stage. Shortly after Kris came out to sound check. He sang Heartless twice and then No Boundaries. Adam was up next, and asked us if we were cold. (I had my jacket tied around my waist!) He said that he was from L.A and not used to this weather. (I really don’t think it was any colder than 65!) He sang Mad World twice. And he didn’t scream, which was awesome because it was way too early in the morning for that.

A little while later, they removed the tent that had been over the stage. It was time to sound check once again, Kris came back out and sang Heartless again and Adam did Mad World – this time with screeching. (And oddly enough, he screeched and the crowd screamed. I don’t understand how people like that? I did however enjoy his performances where all he did was sing, I’ll admit that)

Around 8:30, it was time for the real performances and Kris once again did Heartless. (I’m so done with that song now!) Adam did Mad World and a little bit later Kris did No Boundaries. He came down near our side to sign autographs and take pictures. He was maybe 3 people away when Adam joined him. I ended up squished into the barricade and a couple of photos from the press later, the two were gone. I’m blaming Adam for ruining my chances of meeting Kris, not that they had a schedule and somewhere else to be. It’s more fun that way. (To me, anyway)
