I kind of went into this album with no expectations. I haven’t been a fan of too much of Britney’s more recent work and was on the fence about the first single, “Make Me” which has been on the radio quite a bit since it’s release. But I was actually pleasantly surprised and there are very few songs, if any, that I’ve been skipping after multiple times listening.  A lot of the songs are very catchy and I find them sneaking into my head – especially the music intro to “Private Show”, ah so catchy.  The sound of Britney in that song is also a bit of a throwback too. I also really enjoy Clumsy, Hard To Forget Ya and Liar!

Book Review: David Bowie: Retrospective and Coloring Book

bowieColoring Books are just about the coolest thing lately, but I have to say coloring books that you get to read as e-books just aren’t the same!   This book is about David Bowie and one page has some details about his life (that can be colored in!) followed by a coloring book page.  It features some of Bowie’s iconic looks and I wish I had this book in an actual print form because it will be SO fun to color in!

I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review. I was not otherwise compensated.

About the Book

This retrospective presents music legend David Bowie’s most idiosyncratic and indelible looks throughout the years, with insight into his famed designer collaborations, fashion inspirations, and stylish illustrations perfect for adult coloring book fans.

Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, Thin White Duke. . . . Bowie changed his style more dramatically than any other musician in history. His transformations brought about seismic cultural shifts, altering the definition of what it meant to be a popular rock star. This annotated collection of illustrations provide a remarkable overview of Bowie’s nearly fifty years of evolution, featuring looks by the likes of Freddie Burretti and Kansai Yamamoto, further establishing him as the fashion king of self-invention.

Product Review: ESeries Toothbrush Heads

screen-shot-2016-09-15-at-9-32-53-pm

Did you know that you should replace your toothbrush head every 3 months? Since I have started doing this religiously (thanks to an alert on the calendar in my phone!) I have noticed a significant difference in my dental health. I am always looking for quality replacement toothbrush heads for my sonicare toothbrush. This two pack did not disappoint. They fit perfectly and are a great price especially when you need to buy them several times a year. Now changing my toothbrush head is something I look forward to.

The E Series Toothbrush Heads are proven to reduce gingivitis, remove plaque and stain, control tartar and improve gum health up to 2x better than a manual toothbrush. Set of 2 Standard Replacement Brush Heads with “Screw-on” design easily fit Philips Sonicare: Essence, Xtreme, Elite, and Advance Handles. The brush heads come with caps for hygienic storage and travel, and with blue reminder bristles that will signal replacement time when they fade.

Virtual Race: Harry Potter Run 2016

Race Title: Harry Potter Run 2016
Distance: 5k
Company: Geek’d Out Runners
Charity: Intermountain Healing Hearts

20160902_183746

This is the 2nd Harry Potter Run from Geek’d Out Events. Last year was the first one with a Gryffindor Crest and Harry Potter’s glasses.  This year was Ravenclaw and Luna’s glasses.  I wonder if the other two houses will follow the glasses theme.   I can’t think of any other characters in those houses with glasses that would be recognizable off hand… hmm. I’ve been told that in 2018 after all 4 houses have been completed, they will open up them all again so you can get any of the 4 you may have missed.  Hopefully I’ll still be racing in 2018 – but even if I am not, I am technically a “Slytherclaw” so this is half my house.

Virtual Race: The Road To Loch Ness

Race Title: The Road To Loch Ness
Distance:  40 miles
Company:  Yes.Fit
Charity: Special Citizens Futures Unlimited

20160829_191855

The Road To Loch Ness was a limited race from Yes.Fit.  When they do races that are donated to charity, the number of registrations is limited so I bought this one when it first went up, but didn’t want to actually start it until July when I finished my previous race with them. (You are now able to “pause” races until you are ready to kick them off and track your miles)  Most of their other races don’t donate to charity, which is a reason why I think I will be doing less races with them in the future.  They are long, which frustrates me as well, since I am still unable to do more than a mile at a time.  I did start the Alice in Wonderland series which is a series of 6, but I’m not sure if I will be doing the other 5.  I guess we’ll see what has been added and interests me once I finish my current race – which is 60+ miles!

Top 15 Hanson Members Only Songs

As I mentioned before – Hanson is having us choose their top songs for reasons as yet unknown. (And whether or not we’ll ever know remains to be seen)  First they asked us to choose our Top 25 from (most) of their studio albums and B-sides.  The next survey was asking us to pick a Top 15 from their Members Only content.

For those of you who may not be Hanson fans – each year they release a CD of  about 5 tracks to current members of their fanclub that year as a thank you for being members.  In addition to these EPs they also listed some songs from EPs that were available to the public as well, though perhaps not as widely available as studio albums.

I took the same approach to this list as I did with the album lists – sorted them into “Yes”, “No”, “Maybe” and hoped I’d land somewhere near 15 with my “Yes” pile.  After the first go through I had 20 in my Yes column so I ended up having to remove 5 instead of adding some like I needed to do in the Studio list.

Looking back at the list, I’m not sure now (a couple weeks later) how I came to this conclusion and I might have a different list if you asked me to do it again now. I admittedly do not listen to the Members Only stuff as much as the rest – not because it’s not as good but typically I have the CD in my car after the Members Only Event and release and listen to it a bit too much for the following few weeks/months and then never really bother with them again. (And then lyrics to them end up being the trivia at BTTI and I do terribly or they end up playing them live at BTTI and I struggle to sing along – I really need to start making a playlist in November/December of them to prep me!)

Here’s my list…

Book Review: A Long Pitch Home

longpitchA Long Pitch Home is about Bilal, a boy who was perfectly fine living in Pakistan and playing cricket.  But then after his father had disappeared for several days, he comes home and tells the family that they will be moving to America with Bilal’s Aunt and Uncle and he will be joining them eventually.  Bilal hangs out with his cousin Jalaal who helps him learn English and teaches him about baseball.  Bilal wants nothing to do with baseball, he wants to play cricket!

This is a relatively long book directed at children, but I think that it is a great story.  It covers a year in the life of Bilal and all the adjustments he has to make coming to America, fitting in with the other kids, learning a new language and a new sport.

I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.

About the Book

Ten-year-old Bilal liked his life back home in Pakistan. He was a star on his cricket team. But when his father suddenly sends the family to live with their aunt and uncle in America, nothing is familiar. While Bilal tries to keep up with his cousin Jalaal by joining a baseball league and practicing his English, he wonders when his father will join the family in Virginia. Maybe if Bilal can prove himself on the pitcher’s mound, his father will make it to see him play. But playing baseball means navigating relation-ships with the guys, and with Jordan, the only girl on the team—the player no one but Bilal wants to be friends with. A sensitive and endearing contemporary novel about family, friends, and assimilation.
