Book Review: Weekends Required

Weekends Required is about Claire Walters and her boss, Jason Danvers.  When Claire is asked by Jason to work for the weekend and stay at his friend’s place, she scrambles to figure out what to do with her weekend job – jumping out of cakes.    Jason tells her that he is going out to dinner with his friend and that she can have the night off, she decides to try and do both jobs.

Except that when she jumps out of the cake at a bachelor party, she is shocked to see Jason and his friend staring back at her.

This causes a shift in the relationship between Claire and Jason as sparks start to fly.  Claire doesn’t want anything to happen because he is her boss, but at the same time, agrees with her best friend Suzy – he does have hot buns.

Weekends quickly become the requirement with Claire and Jason, and she isn’t sure what to do now that she doesn’t have the added income of her second job to help pay the medical bills for her sick mother.

Jason decides to take control – which scares Claire and pushes her farther away.  After growing up with an abusive father, the last thing she wants is a man to try and take control of her life when she is perfectly capable of doing things on her own.

While the book kept me interested, I couldn’t help but continue to compare it to Fifty Shades (though it was a bit more scaled down version of it).  I quickly figured out that Claire’s 2nd job was going to be at Harold’s bachelor party, but the back and forth of that set up seemed to go on for chapters.  While predictable, I did like reading it and will be reading the next book- Not Planning On You shortly to find out what ends up happening with Claire and Jason. (I won’t give much more away – but their relationship is all over the place in this book!)

I received a free e-copy of the book from the publisher through NetGalley in order to write this review. I was not otherwise compensated.

About the Book

The New York Times bestseller from the author of Not Planning On You

A Danvers Novel

Claire Walters has worked for Jason Danvers as his assistant for three years, but he never appreciated her as a woman—until the day she jumps out of a cake at his friend’s bachelor party…

To support her ailing mother, Claire is forced to work a second job at a party planning company. But when her handsome boss ends up with a front-row seat to the action, she’s mortified—and he’s intrigued.

With Danvers International in the middle of an important merger, Jason asks Claire to accompany him on weekend business trips—and suddenly all her fantasies are coming true. Her outspoken best friend thinks that getting a little “executive attention” will solve everything. But Claire sees more in Jason than just sex.

Jason is determined to know how the beautiful, sexy woman in the cake could also be his mousy assistant. The more time they spend together, the more he realizes how much fun it can be to mix business with pleasure. And how much he wants to offer her a happily-ever-after of her own…
