Rock N Roll Fridays

This is a special “double” meme in honor of being the last meme of the year. Happy New Year!

Today we picked The Beatles.

1. HARD DAYS NIGHT : “You know I work all day, to get you money, to buy you things, and it’s worth it just to hear you say, you’re gonna give me everything…”
Have you ever supported another person?
Nope.

2. ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE: “Nothing you can make that can’t be made. No one you can save that can’t be saved. Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time, it’s easy. All you need is love…”
What 3 things do you need besides love?
If love is all I need then I don’t need 3 other things do I? LOL

3. BACK IN THE USSR: “Been away so long I hardly knew the place, gee it’s great to be back home…”
What is the most unusual place you have visited?
Probably the jail we spent the night at in Ottawa. It was an old jail converted to a hostel and we thought it would be FUN! But we ended up staying up all night freaked out and left SUPER early the next day haha

4. DO YOU WANT TO KNOW A SECRET?: “Listen, doo da doo, do you want to hear a secret? Do you promise not to tell?…”
What was the last secret you heard?
I can’t tell you that, it’s a secret!

5. DRIVE MY CAR: “Baby you can drive my car. Yes I’m gonna be a star. Baby you can drive my car and maybe I’ll love you…”
When was the last time you drove someone else’s car?
I’m not big on driving other people’s cars so I’m not really sure when it was. Although it was probably my moms car and I hate driving that thing lol

6. EIGHT DAYS A WEEK: “I ain’t got nothing but love, babe. Eight days a week”…
What was the longest week of YOUR life?
Probably when I was putting in ridiculous hours at work. That was rough and I’m not sure I’d ever do something like that again – working 3 weeks work in only 2 weeks!

7. GET BACK: “Jojo was a man who thought he was a loner, but he knew it couldn’t last. Jojo left his home in Tucson Arizona, for some California grass. Get back!Get Back! Get back to where you once belonged…”
Where do YOU belong?
On the road

8. GOOD MORNING GOOD MORNING: “Everyone you see is half asleep, and you’re on your own you’re in the street…”
What is your morning routine?
The usual.. brush hair and teeth and all that fun stuff lol  It’s a bit longer now that I have a full mout of braces

9. HELLO GOODBYE: “I don’t know why you say goodbye I say hello, hello, hello…”
Who was the last person you said goodbye to that you look forward to saying Hello to again?
ummm my friends I guess

10. YESTERDAY: “Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away, now it looks as though they’re here to stay, oh I believe in yesterday…”
What was the best event of yesterday (the day before today)?
I finished 2 books. Well, technically I finished the second one today… so I guess that doesn’t count.

11. WITHIN YOU WITHOUT YOU: “We were talking about the space between us all and the people who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion…”
Spiritually, do you believe in afterlife, reincarnation or nothing at all?
I’m not really sure. I see dead people though.. so…

12. WHEN I’M 64: When I get older losing my hair, many years from now…will you still be sending me a valentine, birthday greetings, bottle of wine?…”
What was your favorite age to be?
12 or 13.

13. WE CAN WORK IT OUT: “Try to see it my way, do I have to keep on talking till I can’t go on? While you see it your way, run the risk of knowing that our love will soon be gone, we can work it out…”
What is the most drastic thing you ever did to try to save a relationship/friendship?
Nothing.

14. THE NIGHT BEFORE: “We said our goodbyes the night before, Love was in your eyes the night before, Now today I find, you have changed your mind…treat me like you did the night before…”
Anything change drastically just overnight for you?
Sure.

15. FOOL ON THE HILL: “But nobody wants to know him, they can see that he’s just a fool. And he never gives an answer but the fool on the hill sees the sun going down and the eyes in his head see the world going round…”
Were you ever teased or bullied in the past?
yes. elementary school, middle school (probably the worst) and high school.

16. SHE’S A WOMAN: “My love don’t give me presents, I know that she’s o peasant. Only ever have to give me, love forever and forever, my love don’t give me presents…”
What was the last gift your significant lover gave to you?
I hate that these things always assume you have a ‘significant lover’ i dont.

17. SEXY SADIE: “She came along to turn on everyone, sexy Sadie the greatest of them all, Sexy Sadie how did you know, the world was waiting just for you…”
What is sexy about your significant other?
Nothing, they don’t exist.

18. REVOLUTION: “You say you want a revolution, well you know, we’d all want to change the world…”
What would you change about the USA right now if you could (besides war)?
JOBS.

19. PENNY LANE: “Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes, there beneath the blue suburban skies…
Tell us about your favorite street. It doesn’t have to be the one you live on now…
I can’t say that I have a favorite street.

20. PAPERBACK WRITER: “It’s a thousand pages give or take a few, I’ll be writing more in a week or two. I can make it longer if you like the style, I can change it round and I want to be a paperback writer….”
What would your book be about if someone advanced you money to write one?
I’ve written 2 novels. Not that they’ll ever be published. I don’t know what I’d write about if money was on the line though

21. NOWHERE MAN: “He’s a real nowhere man, sitting in his nowhere land, making all his nowhere plans for nobody..”
Who do you feel is clue-less?
A LOT of people… especially people who drive in my town.

22. NORWEGIAN WOOD: “She showed me her room, isn’t it good Norwegian wood?”
What piece of artwork or furniture are you most proud of?
Probably my painting done by Zac Hanson.

23. MICHELLE: “I love you I love you I love you, that’s all I want to say, until I find a way, I will say the only words I know that you’ll understand…
Have you ever dated a non-US born person? (If you are from another country , have you dated anyone outside your borders?)
No.

24. MAXWELL’S SILVER HAMMER: “Bang Bang Maxwells’ silver hammer came down on her head, bang bang Maxwell’s silver hammer made sure that she was dead…”
How would you like to die if given a choice?
I’d prefer to not think about that.

25. MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR: “Roll up for the mystery tour. The magical mystery tour is waiting to take you away, waiting to take you away take you today…”
What was the last tour you went on?
Shout it Out 😉

26. LADY MADONNA: “Lady Madonna baby at your breast, wonders how you manage to beat the rest…”
How do you feel about public breast feeding?
I’m totally cool with it – the mother is usually covered and I don’t think its practical that the baby should eat in the bathroom. I wouldn’t want to eat in the bathroom.. why should a baby have to?

2010 Goals revisited

-Get Organized – I think I made progress with this, but I still have a ways to go!
-Work on time management – This became easy without work taking up most of my days 😉
-Figure out a budget – and stick to it. – I did well with this too, I think, especially considering the drastic changes with my income.
-Read at least 15 books – The Nook helped me out a lot and I read *43* books this year
-Watch at least 50 movies –  I hit over 90 movies, the new blu ray player with Netflix helped watch movies from bed nearly every night (though more often that not Id fall asleep in the middle and it would take me a couple nights to finish!)
-Get all the pennies available in Connecticut & NYC – Not caught up with either. A couple more to go in NYC and several from CT – most requiring admission which is the cause for delay
-Ride my bike at least 5 minutes a day – FAIL.
-Try to go to at least 1 concert per month – Did this
-See Hanson 50 times (total count) by the end of 2010 (aka 9 shows in 2010) – Did this and then some I am at 57!
-Put all my change in a bank, see how much it is at the end of the year – Have been doing this and will bring it to the bank in the new year (it is missing quarters though because I save those for pennies)
-Get 100% caught up on 8×8 Celeb Book – I am not sure I even worked on this!
-put away pennies and keep trade list organized, online and up-to-date – most penines are away, trade list needs to be re-created.
-get each member of honor society to write my name on an autograph – I got Alex and Jason! 50% is not bad

Year In Review

My year kicked off driving home from PA after spending New Years Eve with Honor Society & lots of friends.  My first show of the year was Nick Jonas and the Administration at the Beacon Theater in New York City. Shortly after my friend and I won a “Pear Pals” video contest which got us tickets to see Honor Society open for Timbaland.  The next night I went to NJ to see Honor Society perform a special acoustic show.
February my 1 concert a month streak almost ended, but at the last minute I got myself John Mayer tickets and went to see him at the Mohegan Sun casino.
March I went to see Carrie Underwood for the first time and was amazed. I won tickets to Lifehouse’s TIC Acoustic Café where they played a shocking 2 songs – and then met half the band after the performance.
April kicked off with a trip to NYC to see Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers 1,000th show! The month ended with seeing Honor Society perform the National Anthem at a Mets game, seeing them perform a show at Nokia Live Times Square and then I had one day to recover before spending the last week of the month checking out a  taping of Jimmy Fallon’s show and then seeing Hanson every night for 5 nights!  Each night they performed one of their albums in its entirety and called it “5 of 5”.
May began by me winning All Access passes for Jordin Sparks at the Wolf’s Den – Reserved tickets and a chance to hang with Jordin backstage before the show! The next night I drove through Boston to the House of Blues to check out Honor Society.
June I won tickets from a local radio station to check out Jordin Sparks once again – this time at the Webster Theater.  Then I attempted to attend a Hanson/Drake concert at South Street Seaport which ended up being canceled due to Drake’s fans rioting. (But it sure did get Hanson a lot of press) I went to see the Mets with seats right behind Jeff Francouer.  I went to see Justin Bieber and I went to see and met Adam Lambert (only because I won tickets).
July began with me losing my job. And my free lawn tickets began with Jack Johnson.  Unfortunately because of the American Idol tour date change – I had to miss seeing (and meeting) the Idols in Bridgeport, even though I had won some awesome seats!  I did get to see the Idols about a week later from the upper level at the Mohegan Sun Arena.  I went to see Tim McGraw, but left before he hit the stage my pants weighing next to 20 lbs due to a crazy downpour during the opening acts (Lady Antebellum and Love and Theft).  I took my brother to Warped Tour and I don’t think I’ve ever felt more out of place at a show.  I spent the weekend on Cape Cod seeing Hanson on back to back nights and then went to see them again in New Jersey.  I was worried I wouldn’t reach my goal of seeing them 50 times because of the Drake Riot situation. I finished out the month by seeing Rascal Flatts from the lawn free (and keeping track of the setlist has gotten me hits to the blog nearly every day since!)
August kicked off winning tickets to see Maroon 5 at the casino.  They were 8th row and AWESOME.  I took my cousin to see Kings of Leon and we were “grasshoppers” buying seats in the pavilion. I went to see Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits.  I met John Mayer! And saw him live. I saw the Jonas Brothers play a softball game against ESPN, I met the Jonas Brothers, I saw the Jonas Brothers perform live (with upgraded tickets I won).  I met Joey Fatone from NSYNC.  I saw Crosby, Stills & Nash and Tom Petty.  I went to PA to see Hanson in Pittsburgh and hit show #50! And 51! And 52 in Baltimore.  I got a group picture with Hanson and one of me with Taylor. The month ended with a trip to Arthur Ashe Kids Day where Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato and David Archuleta among others performed.
September I won tickets to see Keith Urban and Kris Allen from Kris’ band after being bummed all day our other plans had fallen through and I couldn’t afford a ticket. (It became my 100th concert in Connecticut) I went to see the Titanic exhibit at Foxwoods and tried to start organizing my scrapbook space (it is still a work in progress)
October I met Jason Castro at the casino.  The next night I went to see Kris Allen and Lifehouse at the other casino (but had no luck meeting Kris – again!)  I had to stay up until midnight to get presale tickets to the TIC Christmas show.  I went to KC101 studios to hang out with Ashlyne Huff. And I went to a taping of Nate Berkus’ Show (and he gave nothing away).  I finished out the month with a Tyler Hilton show, less than 4 hours of sleep and a trip to Oklahoma for a Halloween Hanson show.  Tyler was my 200th concert.
November I was on a bit of Hanson overload seeing them in MA, PA and twice in CT (and meeting them too!)  I was excited to see Tony Lucca perform in Fairfield, but he backed out of the show due to being booked on an episode of Parenthood.  I was told I could get a refund, but it has yet to process on my credit card… We rounded out the month going to NY to see Jason and Michael of Honor Society perform at a fundraiser.  It was an awesome show and took us through the history of the band.
December had just one show – the TIC Christmas show where somehow we were with a bunch of people who had backstage access (but we didn’t), once again, we were unable to meet Kris Allen.

Rock N Roll Fridays

What is your favorite charity? I don’t know that I have a favorite, but I do support World Vision, Donors Choose, Salvation Army, Heifer and Take The Walk when I can.

2. BRENDA LEE: Rockin Around the Christmas Tree
What do you consider “rockin” about Chrismas? Some of the music, I guess.

3. JOHN LENNON-YOKO ONO: Happy Christmas/ War Is Over

What major world event/change would you like to see happen on Christmas Day? World Peace? I’d like to see that ANY day though, but if it happens to happen on Christmas that would be ok.

4. PAUL McCARTNEY: Wonderful Christmastime

What is your favorite Christmas memory? I don’t know. I really don’t have anything specific I remember about Christmas. Is that weird?

5. BEACH BOYS: Little Saint Nick

Have you been to California, Florida or some other warm weather place for the holidays? Nope, or at least not that I can recall.

6. STEVIE WONDER: Someday At Christmas

What would like for a future Christmas for yourself and your family? I don’t know (gosh every week these things make me realize I am so boring. OR too lazy to think lol)

7. WEIRD AL: Christmas at Ground Zero (this song was written in the 1980s and the video is quite humorous… it’s not about 9/11)

Have you prepared your family home for a catastrophic emergency? Catastrophic? probably not. We can’t even find where we left the flashlights when we lose power!

8. THE PRETENDERS: 2000 Miles

What is the furthest away you have traveled for Christmas or other holiday? I’m not sure we have ever left CT for Christmas… sometimes we go to NH for other holidays though

9. ELVIS PRESLEY: Blue Christmas (NO one does this as well as the King)

What is the saddest Christmas memory you have? My grandmother died the day after Christmas (now can you see why I can’t think of happy Christmas things?)

10. THE WAITRESSES: Christmas Rapping

Have you ever hooked up on Christmas Eve? Can’t say that I have.

11. ELTON JOHN: Step Into Christmas

What is your favorite snow-related activity? We used to slide down the hill in our front yard.  Pissed the neighbors off though no matter how big we built up a “wall” at the end before the street.

12. WHAM: Last Christmas (this is the full version video!)

Do you have any lovers or friends you have lost touch with and want to reconnect with? No

13. BOBBY HELMS: Jingle Bell Rock (I love this song! One of the few I can listen to at other times of the year )

Teaser Tuesday

I’m a little late but I saw it on my friend’s blog, Go Get Smashed and figured I’d give it a try since the book I am reading is an actual, physical book and not on my nook at the moment!

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

“I love this saying: Reach for the unreachable.”

“I’ve arrived – or have I?”

I am reading Zero Regrets by Apolo Ohno.  Great book, really interesting – I have 1 more chapter to go!
