Mixtape Festival – Day 1

Mixtape Festival started off a bit nerve racking. We asked where handicapped parking was to one of the attendants on the street and she very snottily said she did not know. Yet she was instructing traffic to parking areas… But once we found parking and got to the box office to get our tickets stamped so we’d have access to the ADA area, things went a bit smoother.  That is until mother nature got involved and decided a thunder storm rolling through just before the acts were going to start was a good idea.

We went underneath the grand stands to wait out the storm and then headed back out a while later to catch Aaron Carter’s set.  He sang only 3 songs because the weather cut his set short.  I was annoyed because it was only a DJ up next and I don’t understand their purpose in life.  The acts alternated on stage to stage so there was very little down time between sets which was really nice.  After Aaron was DJ Cheapshot.  We opted to stay on the south side ADA area for most of the day and could see both stages from where we were.

Next up was Steel Panther and I don’t get this band either. Are they a joke? I hope so.  They are like the 2gether of metal bands. But with WAY worse lyrics!  Their set seemed to go on and on and it would have been nice if they cut a little of their set to get Aaron another song 🙁

Carolina Liar was next up on the North stage and I wasnt sure I knew any of their stuff but then they had 1 single that I did recognize.  Then back to South for DJ Pauly D.  Again – don’t get it – but he had the crowd pumped the most of anyone at that point in the show. (Gary from Teen Mom was also in attendance – as a fan. I know OF the show but don’t watch it – my friend pointed him out to me.  He also seemed to get the girls in a frenzy.  Again, I don’t get it.  He is famous for getting a teenager pregnant. Awesome.)

North stage had The Fray up next and they had a pretty long set. To the point that they did a bunch of songs that I didnt know from their albums to fill in time.  I dont know if they knew what was going on at the show though because they kept saying Kelly Clarkson was up next.  She was next on that stage – but NKOTB would be on the south stage next. They put on a good show though, it was just hard to get in to it being on the other side of the stadium.

NKOTB came in on some sort of car that we couldn’t see from where we were, and they all jumped on platforms in front of the GA area – in the back of the VIP area. They did their first few songs there which was awesome because they were so much closer to us! Then they made their way back on the stage for the rest of the set.

It was Donnie’s birthday (he’s 40 – again) and so we sang to him and Jon sang to him and then they gave us a gift which was to come back out on the platforms. Someone (Joe?) said – you are VIP but they are VIP too which was nice because the VIP people were being a bit rotten (not all, mind you) about being VIP because perks were changing in the days leading up to the festival.

We ended up heading over to the north stage to snag a spot for Kelly Clarkson and figured the guys only had to do Hangin Tough and would be done. Little did we know that they would be bringing 98 DEGREES out on to the stage to sing with them!

Donnie said to be sure to watch Kelly because they had a surprise for us.  We had planned on watching Kelly anyway, but that definitely got us interested.  It turned out that Joe Mac sang the Jason Aldean duet with Kelly. Kelly is so funny and I love that she chats with the fans throughout her set.  She also had another special guest, Jordan Meredith from the show duets. They did a Miranda Lambert song together.  Kelly always puts on a great show and this was no different.  She mentioned how she didn’t know she was performing on the same bill as NKOTB and that her sister LOVED them when they were kids – they shared a room and there were posters every where so she had to call and brag to her sister.

After the show we made it out of the parking lot in record time! Then it was time to get some rest and do it all again the next day!

Some setlists under the cut – it was raining so I didn’t keep track of everyone.

Honor Society – Ollie’s Point

With the success of their Kickstarter campaign, Honor Society was able to book some headlining shows during the Summer of Love tour. One was on Sunday night in Amityville, NY at Ollie’s Point.  With how tired I was from the night before, I called to see about handicapped seating.  I was told they had no designated area (ut oh) but plenty of areas with chairs existed.  It turned out alright, as I sat at the bar all night and had a pretty decent view of the stage, with the exception of a support beam that blocked band members here and there.

The first band was Here’s To You, a local Long Island band.  Big shocker – during their set I actually tweeted “Ok I like this opener. Favorite this tweet because I never say that!”  They opened their set with the imperial death march (I think that is what it is called?) from Star Wars and they also did a cover of Bruno Mars Runaway Baby which is one of my favorite songs lately so that definitely won them some points.

The next band was This Is All Now, the one from the night before I didn’t like.  They didn’t seem to be as bad at this show – but the lead singer did mention he was sick and in the hospital that morning – so maybe the Boston show was less than stellar because he was sick.

The 3rd opener was Kicking Daisies. This was my second time seeing them with the new all guy lineup and I still wasn’t that impressed.  They also seemed to do a lot of covers in their set instead of original songs.  I don’t know, I miss my hometown girls Carly and Caitlin in the line up!

Then it was time for Honor Society! I was excited that it would be a headlining set – so not the short 8 songs from the night before. They also promised new music so I was looking forward to that!  I opted to stay at my seat at the bar for their set – even though I thought it would make my photos suffer.  Well, if the lighting was just right I was able to get some decent shots (of everyone but Alex, unfortunately) so I decided I might as well just stay seated.  (This ended up making me be “trapped” in the back and miss out on seeing the guys before I left, but that’s ok, because I had access to the bathroom which was the important thing lol)  The show was on fire and it was really cool to watch the entire crowd up front do the Honor Roll to See U In The Dark.  (But the fact that they now call this an “old song” makes me feel old haha)

I got some video of the new songs – Obsession, Serendipity and This Bed is An Ocean (not really new, but re worked a but and itll be on the next album! Hooray!) I will try to post them at some point if they did indeed come out ok.

Mike also started talking about Serendipity and the download cards they had (I meant to grab an extra or two to give away but forgot – sorry everyone!) and then Andy had to tell him that it wasn’t the next song.  Then when there was 3 songs left Mike was teasing about how since he could read – he knew what the last 3 songs were. (And also mentioned that the show was called “The Hangover” because his birthday was the day before haha)

Word is that their new album will be coming out in September and there just may be a tour to promote it. *fingers crossed!*

Honor Society – Summer of Love Tour – Boston

Saturday Honor Society was back in Boston – this time as an opening act for All Star Weekend on the Summer of Love Tour.  At first I wasn’t sure how I’d like them being an opening act as opposed to a headliner, but I think it worked out well for them. (And we got to leave before the show was over!)

Before the show, I got to participate in a VIP Experience with the band – where we took a tour of the historic 100 year old Fenway Park.  Not something I probably would have done otherwise (and Mike agreed), but it was pretty cool to go through the oldest ballpark in the MLB!  We walked almost all over the place – though never ended up on the Green Monster.  They were also setting up the stage for Bruce Springsteen who is performing there this week so we got to see that going on as well.  The VIP Experience was one of the rewards for Honor Society’s recent Kickstarter campaign – in which they raised 217% of their goal – which may just be one of the most successful music-related Kickstarters in the history of the website!

After our tour we grabbed a bite to eat and then headed to the House of Blues for the show.  We asked for handicapped seating and they let us in early but then kind of had us fend for ourselves. We grabbed a spot by a rail but by the time Honor Society’s set was done my legs were really bothering me.  We got a photo w/ Alex before the show and said hey to Mike and Jay after, but decided not to stick around for Allstar Weekends set.  Typically I would stay, but there was no way I would have survived AND been able to go to see them the next night as well. (And I have concerts every weekend until Labor Day so I have to pace myself)

The first opening act I believe was called This Is All Now.  I thought it was strange that even though they had banners w/ their name on it – they never bothered to say who they were or introduce any of the band members.  I really wasn’t in to them at all… and them doing a Carly Rae Jepsen cover AND Katy Perry cover probably had something to do with that.

The second band was Namesake and I liked them a bit better than the first.  They also stopped singing their last song because girls were getting pulled out of the crowd and the lead singer mentioned that he hoped they were ok and mentioned to the crowd to stay hydrated.  Then they re-started their last song once the girls were safely out of the crowd.

The theme with the two openers seemed to be if you bought a CD you’d get a kiss on the cheek from a band member.

Then it was time for Honor Society! They did only an 8 song set, but it was an awesome set.  I don’t know what happened to them but Mike seemed to reall settle into his role as the front man and kept things exciting.  They seemed to have grown as a band leaps and bounds since the last time I saw them in November and I didn’t even think that was possible because they were so great before.  (And everyone was saying their set was so awesome, better than usual, but I didn’t believe them. It totally was!)

The setlist was a little bit different than what I had read at the start of the tour – they did Here Comes Trouble, Two Rebels, Obsession, Serendipity, Run For Your Money, See U In The Dark, Nobody Has To Know, Wherever You Are.

Here’s a tip I learned.  If you want the lead singer to look at you a lot during the set – go to a show on his birthday and then make sure his parents stand next to you!

Unfortunately all the standing did me in so we heard some of Allstar Weekends set when in the bathroom but didn’t end up sticking around for the end of the show. I don’t think we saw enough to legitimately say that I saw AllStar Weekend so they won’t be added to any of my counts.

One Direction at Mohegan Sun

After many failed attempts at trying to get tickets to see One Direction on any of their tours, they added a Connecticut show and I somehow managed to get a ticket for it.  It was not the best seat in the world, but it was in the upper level in the section closest to the stage – so I suppose it could have been worse.  And it turned out that it ended up being their first headlining show in the USA as well.

When we arrived, I had to laugh at the parents who were trying to bring their kids through the casino.  You can not walk through it unless you are 21+ and there are signs all over the parking garage with details on what entrance to use if you have people under 21 with you.  This was just the beginning of dumb parents (more on that later)

There was a mob for the doors so I decided to go and gamble for a bit before heading inside.  I ended up losing $5 on a Lobster Mania machine and then I found the handicapped accessible line (this is awesome, because I never would have survived standing in that mob of girls who were all way too excited to get inside and therefore could not stand still or control themselves) waited a few minutes for the woman checking bags to fight with a mother over a poster that would not be allowed in and then take toothbrushes from some young girls.  My section was directly across from the doors to get in, which was nice because the floors in the arena have a design on them and I trip over the design EVERY. TIME.

I was concerned I might be the last row in the whole arena, but fortunately there were 3 rows behind me. (For future reference I think the section ends with row M.)  The tickets said possibly obstruction and there really wasn’t one, except that the screen behind the guys on stage couldn’t really be seen at the angle we were at. This could have easily been remedied if the videos in between sets were shown on the screens on the side as well, but for whatever reason they decided not to pipe the video in on them.

The first opening act was a 12 year old named Camryn.  She didn’t really seem to get the crowd pumped up at all, although she tried to get everyone to jump and fist pump along with her.  I had my earplugs in and had a hard time hearing her singing over her backing track. You can find out more about her at her website: http://www.camrynmusic.com/

The second opening act was an 18 year old named Manika.  Her singing was at least louder than the music, but I wasn’t in to her at all.  You can check out her at her website: http://manika-music.com/

When the lights came back on after Manika’s set there was an “awwww” from my section because they thought that One Direction would be on next.  I guess I have to try and remember back to my first concert – before a lot of the girls who were at this show was born – to see if I felt the same way. (I don’t really remember)   The music in between Manika and One Direction’s set had the crowd more pumped than both openers combined. Everyone was jumping around and dancing to songs from Grease, Kriss Kross and “I like to move it move it”.

At the Mohegan Sun Arena, they have a band of screens that go around the arena that show ads for upcoming shows and alcohol. (I never realized the amount of ads for alcohol that they showed until last night. There were at least 3!) Some of these ads are bright and some are dark.  Every time a dark ad came up everyone would scream thinking that the lights were going out for One Direction to take the stage. (I can’t fault the girls too much – this tends to confuse me at times too!)

Before the show started, I was able to see the guys walk up the back of the stage and get ready for the show to begin.  They had the same stage clothes as their set during their tour with Big Time Rush.   Each of the guys had their chance to talk to the crowd during the set, though pretty much everything they said I could not hear because the screams were insane!  At one point they took questions from twitter – which resulted in them doing American Accents and singing the theme song to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

From what I could tell from the videos – it seemed like each set was supposed to represent one of the seasons. For the final set it was winter and Liam was wearing a scarf!  There was even snow falling in the arena and the guys were throwing snow balls at the crowd and each other.

I certainly missed the choreographed dancing of the boybands of “my day”, but the guys had high energy and were running, jumping and spinning all around the stage and seemed to genuinely be having a great time.  I took an insane amount of photos, so choosing what to post here was difficult.  I am hoping to get the Concert Katie gallery updated soon and whenever that happens I’ll post a link so you can check out more of my photos from this concert and others as well.

After the show, leaving the arena was very difficult. Parents were waiting for their kids to come out and some of them gave NO ROOM for people to exit. It was ridiculous going through this wall of parents. (My parents went with me too, mainly to gamble and so I wouldn’t have to ride there alone – but we made a deal to meet at a restaurant so they could order me some food before the place got mobbed. It was a genius idea, even though I thought I was never going to make it to where they were because I had to navigate through the sea of parents!)

Bamboozle 2012

There have been a couple of Bamboozle’s in the past I have wanted to attend but never did simply because I thought going would be too much for me.  However, this year Action Item was playing and the girls agreed to push me in the wheelchair so that I wouldn’t be tripping all over the Asbury Park boardwalk all day.

There was a bit of confusion trying to find where we should be parking – the Bamboozle website kept saying additional handicapped information would be coming – but Sunday was the last day of the festival and nothing was ever added.  We parked at the Monmouth Race Track and took a $10 shuttle to the festival – there were coach bushes so they had no trouble storing the wheelchair underneath.

When we got to the area to scan our bracelets, none of the walkways were big enough for a wheelchair and it almost seemed like we were the first one to attempt to go through in a wheelchair (which couldn’t have been the case because I saw 3 or 4 others in wheelchairs once we did get in – but from the reaction of the staff it seemed like they hadn’t had to deal with any before)

Kicking Daisies were already on at the Paramount Stage and since it was right across the way from the Temple of Boozle stage where Action Item was, we figured we’d check them out since the girls had left and were replaced by 2 guys.  It seems like the guys were going over pretty well with the other girls in the crowd, but my group all agreed that we prefered the group with Caitlin and Carly.

After Kicking Daisies set we went across the way to Temple of Boozle and Ashland High was performing. This is Trace Cyrus’ (Miley’s brother) new band. I was not all that impressed with him and I don’t think it was simply because I was excited to see Action Item.

Then it was finally time for Action Item. They started their set with the new song Marching Band – with an actual marchin band backing them. It was pretty awesome. I kind of started kicking myself at this point that I didn’t bring my good camera – but I wrongly assumed the stages would be outside and I wouldn’t have to worry about it being dark. That’s what I get for not properly doing my research!  This room was also apparently not equipped with an ADA area so there was no decent viewing area from the wheelchair. I just kept rolling further and further back to be able to see them all.  The set was short, but it was good!

After the set we headed over by the merch table and Brian and Anthony came by and we got to chat and take photos. At this point we werent sure if we would stick around for the signing because it was not until 7:30 – but we ultimately decided we might as well stay.

We wandered around a bit outside on the boardwalk – and it was FREEZING. I ended up buying a Bamboozle shirt to put over my tank top and Kerri bought a hoodie – she was also in a tank top.  The temperature dropped like 20 degrees from when we got there to this point – it was nuts.

There were skydivers coming in on the beach and a few stages outside.  We went back inside to try and warm up (but it didnt really work) and then went to get a bite to eat.  $3 per chicken tender. Gotta love it.  Then we decided we might as well just get in the Action Item signing line because the quicker we got through the line the quicker we could get home.  We heard Gaslight Anthem’s set and Brand New’s while we were waiting – they were on the main stage.  There was also a sinner stage nearby but we couldn’t quite make out who was performing.

Finally it was 7:30 and time to meet Action Item.  Mark was up first, then Dan, Brian, Anthony and David.  Dan was talking to me a bit about what bands we saw and if I liked Brand New (I wasn’t really paying attention enough to their set) and then David talked to me about why I was in the wheelchair and we said we were having some trouble with it on the sand so he said that if he knew how to make things hover he would do it so we wouldn’t have so much trouble. haha. How sweet.  Then Anthony ended up spilling his red bull all over himself and the table and David just kind of sat there rolling his eyes and the line got held up to clean the table up so the girls got to chat with the guys for a bit longer than we should have – but you have to take advantage of those kinds of things!

Then our shuttle driver had NO idea how to get us pack to the parking lot we were in. I’m not sure how these drivers had NO clue where they were going (the guy there didn’t either) yet it was the 3rd day of the festival.  Did they all just do the route once and then they were done for the weekend? You’d think at the very least they’d all get print outs with the best directions there and back!

Overall, despite it being FREEZING cold towards the end – it was a good time and we can definitely consider it a success (except for the fact that we didn’t ask Action Item when they were touring again so we don’t know when the next time we will see them is!)

Maroon 5 at MGM Grand

Thursday night Maroon 5 had a concert at the MGM Grand Casino at Foxwoods.  Originally there was a different opening act announced but a few days before the show Javier Colon tweeted and said that he would be opening, so obviously I was thrilled.
At 7pm the curtain rose and there was Javier with his band.  First he did Someone Like You – an adele cover. Then he did some songs from his album Come Through For You including Running, Raise Your Hand and Stand Up, Man Up.  Everyone was going nuts for his bass player during Stand Up who was dancing around.  Javier said that when they first started playing together he didn’t know that “Big Sexy” did that and was wondering why everyone was going nuts during the song.  He played his next single – Drop in the Ocean which he accidentally said was written by Ron Paul. (It is written by Ron Pope)  and he finished out his set with Stitch by Stitch and Coldplay’s Fix You.  He didn’t talk as much as he did when he is the headliner and mentioned he was trying to fit in as many songs as possible into his set.

Then we had a break and at about 8pm it was time for Maroon 5! Everyone up front rushed to the stage and I commented that I was glad we were not down there. (My friend Jessa that I went with is pregnant and one poke to me would land me on the floor!)

We were hoping they would do more old songs than new since we weren’t all that familiar with the Hands All Over album (I know, I know, I am such a freaking slacker) but were pleasantly surprised when the majority of the set appeared to be from Songs About Jane – which is turning 10 years old.  I can’t believe that I first saw them (almost) 10 years ago opening for John Mayer!

They opened their set with a bit of Stereo Hearts and then went right in to This Love. Which was followed by Harder to Breathe and Sunday Morning. I was becoming nervous that all the songs I knew would make up the first half of the set – but quickly realized they had a LOT more singles than I had thought and so I knew a good majority of the songs from the radio.

Adam seemed to have turned his stage precense into moves like jagger. Which I dont remember him doing the last time I saw them. Maybe the song went to his head. ha ha. He was also pretty funny with his talking to the crowd – saying that if we didn’t participate and help him out we’d all go home crying.  At one point he kept going “Say Yeah!” and then everyone would of course say “YEAH!” and then he said that he wasn’t sure how you end it when you do that and realized that “Everybody SCREAM!” works so then he tried it again with everybody scream at the end and he said that he was now going to use that on tour and thanked us for helping him figure that out.

I thought the set was pretty short and some girls in the elevator when we were leaving were calling it the “shortest concert ever” their main set was about an hour and then we had the encore which brought it to just under an hour and a half.  For the encore they did Moves Like Jagger, Hands All Over (pretty much the only song I didn’t know) and then She Will Be Loved.  I loved how they ended the show with She Will Be Loved and the crowd was split.  The other side was singing “she will be loved” while our side snapped our fingers and sang “I don’t mind spending every day… out on your corner in the pouring rain” and then Adam directed us as a huge chorus.  It was pretty awesome (and the acoustics at the theater are great for this kind of thing), it was such a great way to end the show on a high note.

Unfortunately I was slacking in the charging the camera battery department and my battery died pretty early on and then I discovered the “backup” I brought was ALSO dying.  So I did my best with photos but I did not take nearly as many as I would have liked.  Lesson learned – I’ll be buying an additional charger for the car so this kind of thing won’t happen again (hopefully).  I would have had no problem charging at least one of them on the hour trip up to the casino!

Stefano Langone Dunkin Donuts Music Lounge

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you know that my favorite contestant from Idol last season was Stefano Langone.  When I found out that he would be performing at the Dunkin Donuts Music Lounge I entered 300 times to make sure I would win.  There would be 15 winners.  Turns out – only 8 girls ended up entering so I could have gotten away with entering only once… but I had no idea how popular he was with anyone else.

He was scheduled to do a performance / live chat at noon but it got pushed back to 1pm.  Fortunately I ended up taking the day off after the crazy airport drama so I had no problem hanging around.  Only 2 other girls ended up showing up.  I was glad for that because I thought it would be really awkward if it was just me in the room and him singing haha

He did 3 songs from his upcoming album (he said it is probably going to be out late summer / early autumn) and they were called Last Day, Cherry on Top and Yes To Love.  Then he  gave us an extra song – If You Don’t Know Me By Now.  All the songs from his album were great and I really can not wait for it to come out!  He didn’t do his current single, I’m on a Roll because it was just him and a piano and he said he couldn’t do it with just the piano.

After the performance we got to meet him – and he actually said he remembered me from VIP over the summer.  How crazy! I’m sure he met a ton of people… he also remembered my name from when I introduced myself before his performance so he must just have a really awesome memory.  He also told me to tweet him so he can follow me on twitter – and now he is!

He’s such a sweet guy and I really hope that his cd does well and I get to see him again and again 🙂

Honor Society private party

Saturday after seeing Honor Society at Garden State Plaza, I went to the Paramus Park Mall and hung out with my friend Marisa who was selling cupcakes and cookies with her new bakery Semisweet.  I had gotten a hotel for the night so I could go to a private Honor Society event on Sunday and thought it would be fun just to hang with her than in the hotel room.

I watched Eli Manning host SNL and then went to bed. At 3am I was awoken by a crazy noise and I was SO confused. I couldn’t figure out what was going on.  Turns out, it was the fire alarm at the hotel! I put my jeans back on so I wouldn’t freeze in my PJ pants and debated taking my stuff outside and then went outside by the car to wait it out. I didn’t see any fire or anything so I figured my things would be ok. About 15 minutes later a fire truck came and the alarms were turned off, but it was definitely rough getting back to sleep. (AND check out was 11 when I thought it was 12 from the site I booked the room on)

I then went to the Fireman’s Hall that the show was being held at.  There were about 20-25 people there in total and Honor Society hung out from 12-3ish.  They mingled, did photos, and then did a decently long set – although I guess it seems longer on paper because they “teased” clips of a bunch of songs that they didn’t want to perform or didn’t remember how to perform them lol  For 2 songs a bunch of the girls went up to sing while the guys played, I have videos of it which I will be sharing hopefully before I head off to Tulsa! (Trying to balance work plus photos and videos when working extra hours is not easy!)

Somehow I ended up not talking to Jason at all, and I really don’t know how that ended up happening.  Once he was coming towards me and said hi, but then a couple other girls started talking to him and a couple other times when I headed towards him he got pulled away by someone else too. I am not sure how it always ends up that I spend the least amount of time with Jason!

After the performance there was birthday cake for Alex (his birthday is the 21st) and he was singing happy birthday too and clapping and being all happy and then everyone went “Dear ALEX” and he was SO surprised the cake was for him. I hope someone captured that on video because it was hilarious.

The party cost $60 to get in to to help split the costs of booking them and I have to say it was the best $60 ive spent in a LONG time. So much fun!  One of the girls there is booking them in August so I am hoping I’ll be able to make it to that one as well – it will be a blast!

Tyrone Wells Fairfield Theater

Finally, Sunday night it was time to see Tyrone Wells!  I bought a ticket to this show when he first posted his dates and I think it was originally suppose to be April 29.  Then it got moved to April 28 and then it got moved to May 6 and at first I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to make it or not because Hanson hadn’t yet released the details for their members only event. But in the end, everything worked out all right.

The opening act was Joe Brooks, who apparently almost everyone in the audience was there to see. I overheard some of the theater workers saying they thought that a lot of people might leave after his set.  I knew nothing about him going in to the show, did a quick google search on him on my phone before his set, and by the time he was done I was in love.  I didn’t keep track of his setlist but a lot of people were recording the show so maybe I can piece something together from youtube at a later date.  You can find out more about joe at his website – http://www.joebrooks.com

I had been listening to Tyrone’s CD non stop for a couple of days before the show and was beyond ready to see a set from him again (previously I had not seen him since the Rock Boat in 09).  He told some great stories during his set and had a lot of great things to say.  He talked about how women have a lot to deal with because of magazines and the medias portryal of them and if there is a guy that doesn’t like you for who you are then he isn’t the guy for you.  He also talked about how he saw a statistic that if you have a car and a roof over your head you are in the top 3% of weath in the world (or something like that.)  He teased about how a lot of people don’t  realize that he is white because his name is Tyrone and how his parents didn’t seem to realize they were white based on the names of him and his sisters.  Although I think my favorite story was about a guy named Sam.  I think I heard him tell this story once before – but he was playing at a swap meet and he heard a girl on her phone saying that “Some Guy” was performing Sea Breeze.  Apparently Sam had told the girl he liked that he had written it for her and Tyrone had to convince this girl that it was indeed his song and not Sam’s.  Finally she believed him and then mentioned another song asking if it was his too. He had said no, because the title didn’t match any of his songs. But when she sang a couple of lines, he realized that too was his song and this Sam character was playing Tyrone’s songs and trying to pass them off as his own!

Tyrone also can yodel and treated us to a song with yodeling. I’ll try to post video of it soon!  He also did a medley of covers – Straight Up, Everybody Dance Now and Beat It. He mocked us all for only being really enthusiastic on the BEAT IT! BEAT IT! and not knowing the rest of the chorus.  (Guilty as charged lol)

Tyrone has a great voice and was very entertaining and I definitely recommend that you check him out if he is coming to your town on his tour!  If not, pick up his new album, Where We Meet which is available now! (And I will be reviewing it on the site in the next couple of months as I try to figure out the best way to start incorporating CD Reviews)

Honor Society at the Garden State Plaza

Saturday afternoon, Honor Society performed at Macy’s at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, NJ.  The performance was at the “M Style Lab” in the junior’s section of Macy’s to help promote the Macy’s and I Heart Radio Rising Star contest, which Honor Society is a finalist in.

I wasn’t quite sure how a performance in a store was going to work, but for the most part they seemed to know what they were doing.  The show kicked off at 3pm and the guys did 5 songs.  Then it was time for the M&G.  The line wrapped through the store so we were able to do a bit of shopping while waiting!  The guys signed the classroom poster (from 2008?) and chatted a bit with everyone.  I guess some girls hung around after the M&G to try and get pics with the guys and were tweeting that security practically had to carry the guys away because they didn’t want to leave! (They are originally from NY/NJ but since moving out to LA their trips back east are a bit less frequent than we all would like.)

Setlist and photos below… it was a good time and my 31st Honor Society show!

See U In The Dark
