Book Review: Drawing Cute with Katie Cook

The description of this book made me laugh – Fun fact – a lot of animals are shaped like potatoes. Another fun fact – potatoes are easy to draw. Another another fun fact – if you can draw a potato, you can draw animals.

I’m pretty sure I can draw a potato but I would have been less sure to tell you I could draw an animal.  However, Katie’s book includes 200+ lessons for drawing super adorable stuff.  And while I didn’t try out drawing anything while checking this book out, I did find some things I might like to try eventually. Since basically everything in this book is a super, super adorable and oh-so-cute cartoon version of cute animals. And other things. Like vegetables. Because vegetables are totally cute, right?

Book Review: Crochet Stories: J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan

I love looking at Crochet Stories for some of my favorite stories.  This one shows you how to create your own crocheted characters from the classic story of Peter Pan.  In addition to telling you how to create the stories it also tells the story of Peter Pan so you can tell the story with your dolls once your projects are completed! The characters in this book look absolutely ADORABLE and I wish that I knew how to crochet to be able to make a couple! Maybe someday…

Barrie’s classic tale, Peter Pan, punctuated with more than a dozen well-illustrated patterns for the beloved characters, plus a variety of accessories.
The ever-popular story opens in the London nursery of the Darling household, presenting patterns for Peter, Wendy and her brothers, and Nana the dog. Storybook chapters of the young Darlings’ adventures in Never-Never Land follow, alternating with patterns for Captain Hook, Smee, the crocodile, Tinkerbell, the Lost Boys, the pirate ship, and other whimsical projects that range from easy to intermediate to advanced.

Book Review: The Princess Diarist

The Princess Diarist is a book that I had requested to review before Carrie passed, but was not approved until after, which made reading it take on a whole different set of emotions for me.  This book is Carrie’s take on what happened while they were filming Star Wars.  I had never read any of Carrie’s other books, but I think I will go back now and read them because I love her writing style and she is hilarious! Her retelling of these stories is absolutely great and a lot of fun to read.  In addition to her recalling stories there are also excerpts from her actual diary from when they were filming.  She details about her affair with Harrison Ford and all sorts of other interactions she has had with fans at cons and the book just made me want to be her friend.  The book just makes it seem like she is in the room with you telling you these stories, not that you are writing a book.  Such a wonderful book.

About the Book

The Princess Diarist is Carrie Fisher’s intimate, hilarious and revealing recollection of what happened behind the scenes on one of the most famous film sets of all time, the first Star Wars movie.  Named a PEOPLE Magazine Best Book of Fall 2016.

When Carrie Fisher recently discovered the journals she kept during the filming of the first Star Wars movie, she was astonished to see what they had preserved—plaintive love poems, unbridled musings with youthful naiveté, and a vulnerability that she barely recognized. Today, her fame as an author, actress, and pop-culture icon is indisputable, but in 1977, Carrie Fisher was just a (sort-of) regular teenager.

With these excerpts from her handwritten notebooks, The Princess Diarist is Fisher’s intimate and revealing recollection of what happened on one of the most famous film sets of all time—and what developed behind the scenes. And today, as she reprises her most iconic role for the latest Star Wars trilogy, Fisher also ponders the joys and insanity of celebrity, and the absurdity of a life spawned by Hollywood royalty, only to be surpassed by her own outer-space royalty. Laugh-out-loud hilarious and endlessly quotable, The Princess Diarist brims with the candor and introspection of a diary while offering shrewd insight into the type of stardom that few will ever experience.

Book Review: Ultimate Guide to Instagram for Business

There are currently 200,000+ businesses out there using Instagram to promote their products and services.  I was hoping to get some information on just general promoting from this book but it is really geared more towards selling – but there are still some good tips that can be used in both cases.  To follow up, you can also visit UGIGbook.com or listen to the innovative business leaders like Jimmy John Shark.  Some of the tips that I took to heart are – Don’t spam. Don’t be too chicken to post.  There is a lot of information on how to set up your account and guides to some of the photo effects you can use.  There’s also a list of popular hashtags – if yours are relevant that can help you get more traffic to your posts and account.  According to this resource here, there a lot of great content on giveaways and getting interaction between your brand and your followers.  You want to build trust with your followers.  There’s also a list of apps to check out to help out with your account, some that I am going to be checking out include: fontcandy, hipstamatic, Schedulegram, facetune and Later.  Again, if you are someone trying to sell a product or a service, this book has lots of valuable information in it that you won’t want to miss out on, also if you already own a business and you think you have pay irregularities you could use tools online to help you with this.
