Warped Tour Media Post

My smaller camera isn’t the best for audio, but I tried!  Some of these are short because originally I thought I’d do a vlog but then I decided I don’t have time for that and gave up on the idea midway through the day, when the clips get a bit longer.  Enjoy!

Southern Voice Tour – Setlist

I managed to throw together the following setlist from Lady A’s performance. It is in no order whatsoever and from memory/youtube videos so I might be missing a song or two as well, but hey it’s better than nothing. If you were there and happen to remember any other songs, please leave a comment!

American Honey
Angel
Hello World
Perfect Day
Our Kind of Love
Need You Now
Free Fallin’ (Tom Petty Cover)

LiveNation Tweeted Tim’s setlist so I have that to post as well:
Real Good Man
Last Dollar
Green Grass
Let It Go
She’s My Kind of Rain
Back When
Smile
Still
Farm
Everybody Hates Me

Blank Sheet of Paper
If You’re Reading This

Tiny Dancer
Felt Good On My Lips
Things Change
I Like It, I Love It
BBQ
Southern Voice

Sing Me Home
Angel Boy
Live Like You Were Dying
Cowboy In Me

(And a random note – I am pretty sure one of Lady A’s backup guitarists was on the Rock Boat with Curtis Peoples in ’09)

Southern Voice Tour 7/16/10 Hartford, CT

Tonight Tim McGraw and the Southern Voice tour came through the Comcast Theatre in Hartford.  This was my 3rd Ultimate Access Pass show. I went with my friend Jen and neither of us were too into staying for Tim, however I did want to stay for a song or two so I could at least say I had seen him.

We got to the venue around 5:30 and there were women in front of us tailgating who asked us to shut our car off because it was making them too hot.  So we couldn’t sit there with the AC on and instead had to deal with the windows down and a slight breeze here and there.  (It was about 90 degrees out)

About 7 we decided to go inside and we got my new chairs in even though some people apparently were not allowed to bring them in? I’m not sure what was going on with that.  We picked our spot at the handicapped section in the front of the lawn.

Just before 8 Jen said she saw lightning and told me to watch to our right until I saw something.  Eventually I saw lightning too and a lot of the crowd did as well because there were yells every time we saw a bolt.  It seemed like it was going behind us and the sky above us wasn’t that dark so we tried not to worry.

When Love and Theft took the stage, everything was fine but shortly into their first song it started to rain and then it started to POUR.  I am talking huge, huge rain drops and it was COLD!  I tried to enjoy the music (I liked what I heard) but I just kind of sat there watching my shorts get darker and darker from all the rain.

The lawn was turning into a mud slide and kids were purposely sliding around in it and splashing in the muddy puddles.  I was attempting to keep some sort of setlist for Love and Theft but unfortunately the rain was making my phone act up and keys were not working so I took the whole thing apart and threw it in my purse.

Next up was Lady Antebellum and their set was relatively rain free so I got to enjoy it a bit more than Love and Thefts (although being soaked I couldn’t enjoy it as much as I would have liked)  I really like their single “Need You Now” and they were the main reason I went to this show.  I was really impressed with the rest of their stuff as well (See, I do like some country… most country/pop or whatever is played on Top 40 stations I enjoy) and will have to look into getting their album.  They are coming back on their headlining tour in October, but I’m not sure I am *that* into them. (I’ll decide once I give their album a couple spins)

While the original plan was to leave a couple of songs into Tim’s set, when I stood up and realized my shorts weighed about 20lbs all on their own, we decided it was time to go.  Both Jen and I were shivering and I was even sneezing!

Under any other circumstances I wouldn’t have left before the headliner did at least a couple songs but I think I made the right choice. (Even though the guy next to us tried to convince us otherwise)  I even debated buying a shirt to change into when we got back to the car but the only one I even somewhat liked was $50 and I wasn’t sure I would wear it that much to justify it. Luckily I had a hoodie in my car to change into and out of the wet t-shirt!

I am home now and my phone is in rice so I can’t retrieve the partial setlist of Love and Theft (and Im not even sure how many songs I ended up with before I gave up on my phone) and I am finally dry and warm though my hair is still wet!

Photos to come tomorrow and if I happen to find setlists somewhere or figure it out from Lady A’s CD track listing I will post it after. (I know they closed the set with a Tom Petty cover! Free Fallin’)

No concerts until next week when I have a Hanson weekend!

American Idols Live – Mohegan Sun Arena 7/13

Last night the Idols took their tour to the Mohegan Sun casino for the first time ever.  This was considered Katie Stevens home town show and it appeared most of the floor was filled with her friends and family!

My seats were the front row of the section all the way in the back, but were centered with the stage.  It was a great perspective of the whole show, but not so great with trying to get photos.  I haven’t had a chance to look at the photos I took yet, but if anything came out decent they will be posted at a later date.

Before the show started we tried the text contest to win After Party passes, but had no luck.

Didi kicked off the show, and her style was a bit too laid back to kick off the show, but she sounded great.

She was followed by Andrew Garcia who did his rendition of Straight Up that made everyone fall in love with him during Hollywood week as well as Maroon 5’s Sunday Morning.  Also mellow, but good!

Next up was our hometown girl, Katie Stevens.  She came out to tons and tons of cheers and rocked to Here We Go Again (which I think she did even better than Demi Lovato) and Fighter.

She was followed by Tim – who I wasn’t all that impressed with.  I do think his studio songs sound pretty good though so I can see him having a decent album, but if you can’t really keep up with it live, I’m not sure if that will get him very far.  (But he’s cute and the girls love him!) He really tried to get the crowd involved with his songs as well.

Next up was my fellow Hanson fan, Siobhan.  She started with Paint It Black and held out the last note for what seemed like FOR-EV-ER!  It was awesome.  However I felt like she lost it a bit on her other two songs, she might have overdone it on that note.  She had great stage presence though and seemed really into her performance.

Aaron Kelly was next.  He was my mom’s favorite and she enjoyed his set but I am just not into country.  He did a good job and also had great stage presence and I can see him doing very well for himself.  Most of the Idols who choose the country route do, and I don’t see Aaron as being any different. Kids got talent, even though if its not my favorite genre.

Then they all (#10-#5) came out and sang Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb” before it was time for intermission.

After the intermission it was time for Big Mike.  I had liked him early on in the competition, but not so much after the Judge’s Save was used on him.  I also thought his falsetto for Justin Timberlake’s “My Love” was WAY too much. His other two songs were better fits for him and he does have a good voice but I just wish he did more upbeat stuff.

Finally it was time for my favorite, Casey.  I really wish he got to display his guitar skills more on the show – but it was probably hard for him to “jam” when songs had to fit into a two minute or whatever it was time limit.  I felt like Casey was the best overall musician in the competition this year and I see him doing pretty well for himself in his career in the future. (And I was also really impressed with his studio versions pretty much every week)  He was joined by Big Mike for “Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman” and they sounded great together.  I also thought it was funny that Mike referred to Casey as “Mr Pretty” haha.

Next up was Crystal, who was probably one of my least favorite contestants ever.  She has a good voice but I just feel like the competition was not for her.  She sang “Whats Up”, “Come To My Window”, “Up To The Mountain” and “Piece of My Heart”  My parents seemed to enjoy her though – if that is saying anything.

And then it was time for our winner, Lee.  I have tried really hard to like him, really I did. There were some weeks I thought he was the best during the show, but most of the time I felt like he was trying too hard to emulate someone else and I just wanted him to find his own voice.  I was not impressed with his set at all – I felt more like he was yelling at me than singing for me.  He had a mic, no need to be so shouty with his performance.  But once again the crowd seemed to love him.  He did what I have dubbed the cover of the year – “Use Somebody”  I have also heard this done by Nick Jonas and Jason of Honor Society and so far I have to say that Jason has the best rendition.  However, next month I am seeing the originals – Kings of Leon – so that might be a bit of a tough call after that show 😉

When Lee’s set finally ended (I think it is the longest winner set I have ever seen of the 5 or so Idols shows I have been to over the years) the boys came on stage (yay casey!) and sang Bon Jovi’s “Its My Life” and then the girls came out to start “My Life Would Suck Without You” by the original Idol, Kelly Clarkson, and then they were joined by the guys and all 10 of them finished out the song.

I am glad that I ended up getting to see a show when I thought it wasn’t going to happen when the Bridgeport show got shuffled, but I just wish I could have had better things to say.  I will definitely go see Casey again and will probably be dragged to see Lee by friends, I just hope he can work on his live performance a bit before then…

After the show we tried to find a spot where the Idols would be meeting with fans as I really wanted to meet Casey, Katie and Siobhan (at the very least), but unfortunately the security would not let them come out.

So now I have gone to what will probably end up the only show that they were not allowed to sign after at and the only show Kris Allen didn’t perform at during last years tour.  Apparently I should stick to only seeing Idols after the tour is over and they are doing their own thing – I seem to have much better luck with that!

Ew. Brine.

or
Give blood?

Read Hamlet. Hate needles.

July 10/11

Different part of the body. I dont even think I could move in clothes 5 sizes too small lol

July 12
Take all your showers naked in a storefront window for a month
or

Icky.. I think I’ll go with the cigarettes, though I think that might end up killing me…

Definitely the speech. I’d think I’d have been behind a stand so no one would have noticed. And I don’t really ever want to talk to Dubya. So yeah.

Christine’s Bridgeport American Idol Photos

Since I couldn’t make it to the Idol show in Bridgeport, I had my “beat reporter” Christine attend so I could provide coverage.  😉 After the show she was able to meet Lee (though no photos with him were allowed)  Andrew, Aaron, Katie, and our fellow Hanson fan, Siobhan!

Below the cut are some of her photos – all she asks that if you post them elsewhere you credit her and do not try to pass them off as your own. (More photos can be found on her flickr! http://www.flickr.com/photos/velvetskies/)

New Disqus Comments

I’ve never really been a fan of the comments on Blogger.  I just updated the blog and now have comments through ‘Disqus’.  Old entries will not be affected but everything from here on out will have the new comment feature.  It will also allow for replies to be nested and some other cool features I still have to figure out 😉  So please just put up with me for the next day or so while I get everything figured out!

Edit:  It looks like the comments are going to go back and forth for a bit.   I like to use the “schedule” feature on blogger and set up posts when I have the free time and schedule them to post on certain days at certain times.  It looks like any scheduled posts will have the old blogger comments, but anything new will have the new ‘Disqus’ set up.  I might try to wipe out blogger comments entirely and import any comments from that post back in, depending on how much of a task that will end up being.  But if you see posts going back and forth with the comment set up, you’ll know which ones I cheated on and wrote up in advance 😉  (mainly would you rather wednesday!)

Warped Tour 2010

 =

Yesterday Vans Warped Tour was in Hartford, CT.  I was able to get free tickets as part of my “Ultimate Access Pass” and while normally this was not a show I would go to, my little brother wanted to go so I took him.  There were really only 2 bands I was interested in seeing – The Pretty Reckless which is fronted by Taylor Momsen, aka Little J from Gossip Girl.  The other band was Sum 41 who I have liked for several years now but generally stay away from their types of shows as it’s probably not the safest place for me to be.

I was reading up on Warped Tour online and knew that if you brought 3 food items you could get a wristband to get let in 15 minutes early.  So we got there at 10 (doors were at 11) picked up tickets from Will Call, dropped off our food and then waited in line.  Except we were let in one gate early, but not let in from the other until the main gates were open as well, which was pointless.  The first 200 people got free items if they went to the Vans tent with the secret word and one item was a ‘rock hand’ foam finger and it was ORANGE so of course I wanted it.  Unfortunately by the time we got to the table the fingers and lanyards were gone so we ended up with a key chain.

We wandered around a bit more and grabbed a program. Then I decided I needed to sit and eat something and so my brother wandered around a bit to find more info.  I really was not into the style of music that was going on at the stage near me, so we found the Glamour Kills and AP Advent stage.  Pretty Reckless would be on the AP stage at 5:15 and the stages were in the pavilion at the venue so I could sit back and observe everything else that was going on.  I ended up there all night while my brother went off to see and meet other bands and met up with me after the sets he wanted to see were done.

The bands I ended up seeing were:

Die Another Day
Anarbor
Sparks the Rescue
Rev Peytons Big Damn Band
I See Stars
The Casualties
Versa Emerge
Polar Bear Club
Enter Shikari
The Cab
Ace Enders / I Can Make A Mess
Never Shout Never
Artist Vs Poet
The Pretty Reckless
The Summer Set
Mike Posner
Sum 41

My only regret would be that I didn’t go meet The Pretty Reckless because I had heard that The Summer Set was good – but they didn’t really impress me.  I was, however, very impressed with the Cab, their set was probably my favorite of the day. (Coming in a close second was Sum 41 who I was pretty excited for all day because at first I thought we weren’t going to stay long enough to see them)
