It’s July!

I am so incredibly excited for it to be July! I have tickets to 2 Mets games (though I’m not sure if I will be going to both), my 25th birthday is coming up, and I’ll be seeing Honor Society 5 times in 6 days! And with any luck, Hanson fall tour dates will come out in July! (and not while I am on my Honor Society mini tour)

There might also be some other concerts thrown into the mix, but nothing that I already have tickets for. (Jason Mraz, Josh Gracin, Ryan Cabrera? To name a few) Unless you count the Paul McCartney tix I am trying to sell – anyone interested in going 7/21? They are on the field! We just ended up with too many pairs!

I am beyond excited for the Honor Society mini tour. Lauren and I will be heading to Boston for a weekend – catching a Full Moon Crazy show (the after party to the Jonas World Tour show) and then the next night catching the Jonas show from what we believe to be 3rd row tickets. Then we’ll go home, get a little bit of rest, before heading to Long Island for my birthday show at the Crazy Donkey. (A full moon crazy matinee show)

The next day I will head BACK to Long Island with my cousin where I will take her to the Jonas World Tour show. The next day will be an off day. And then Lauren and I will cap it all of with our last Full Moon Crazy show in New York City.

Which reminds me, I need to do my daily sweepstakes entry to meet Honor Society πŸ™‚

Michael Jackson

I feel like I should say something about the passing of Michael Jackson. I wouldn’t call myself a “fan”, I think I’m too young to have known him at his prime – but I must say that the man was immensely talented and it’s a shame that the latter part of his career was overtaken by matters of his personal life. (Speculation which I doubt will end even after his death)

I can remember one year during Christmas break when my dad was going through old VHS tapes that he had recorded. He found Thriller and had us all watch it. Impressed with the music video, we asked if we could watch it again, once our friends came over for a New Years Eve party. Now, in addition to the original VHS, there is video of us all sitting on the couch intently watching the music video – with pillows on our lap – just in case it got a bit too scary for us. Later, my dad got “scolded” by our friends dad, as our friend had nightmares from the music video!

So many people are going on about how their childhood is dead but really, aside from that one memory I posted above, I don’t really recall listening to him. I know most of his popular singles – but when American Idol did Michael Jackson night there were some songs I had never heard before. I am obviously saddened by the loss, but it hasn’t hit me as hard as it has many others.

I can’t forget mentioning the Free Willy song that my cousin taught me on piano, but all I managed to remember was the first 7 notes or so.. and proceeded to drive everyone crazy playing them over and over again. (And then once again when I figured out how to play them on my recorder!)

Either way, MJ was a huge presence in the music industry, having influenced many, many, many of the bands/artists/groups/etc that I listen to today and countless others that I don’t pay any attention to. He will be missed.

I

SayNow is this cool new voicemail program that a lot of musicians have been using. What happens is, they update their message and then all their “subscribers” get texts to let them know there is a new message. They can then call and hear the message and leave a voicemail for the artist as well.

SOMETIMES, the artist can hook the say now up to their own phones and go LIVE.

Today, Alex and Andrew of Honor Society did just that! And I got through!! The call was a little less than 4 minutes, but we talked about a lot – most important of course though, was them saying that they miss Lauren and I since they are on the west coast. awwww.

When I mentioned going to 5 shows in 6 days Alex was like “WHAAAT!?” completely shocked and Andrew said he was glad we’d be road trippin’ again this summer to see them since we did it a lot last summer and that he was glad we were still with them.

Aww, such sweet boys πŸ™‚ They totally made my day.

Is it July 17 yet?

May Recap

May was a pretty crazy month. I traveled to and through many states (new ones to add to the list: Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas!) and stayed at 3 of my friends places (thanks again to Maribeth, Keena and Jaime!) and went to 7 concerts (none of which have been scrap booked yet)

As a recap –

May 1/2 brought me to Hershey, PA where I saw Honor Society play twice. I met up with Amber.

May 10 I ventured up to the casino alone to see Josh Gracin play in the Wolf’s Den. I lingered around to try and meet him and beat my Idol photo streak, but had no luck.

May 14 I went to Fairfield to see Tony Lucca and Joey DeGraw. After the show I met Tony again, who was my first solo photo with a celeb back in 2002. We made each other feel old by mentioning the MMC and how that was almost 20 years ago.

May 15th I hopped on a flight to St Louis and later Oklahoma City where I met up with my friend Keena. I experienced a nice Oklahoma storm. The next day we went to Tulsa, OK – where Hanson was born, raised, and still lives to do some sightseeing and to catch the Members Only Event. The next day we went to the museum in Oklahoma City to see a display of some of Hanson’s memorabilia from their rise to fame. We then rushed to the airport where I flew to Dallas (biggest airport ever) and then back home.

May 24th I won a contest to meet David Cook at KC101 before his concert that night in New Haven, though the meeting was brief, the streak was broken and the concert was fantastic, even if Toad’s Place sucks a big one when it comes to accommodating handicapped fans. (I have written an angry, nasty letter which will be mailed out hopefully tomorrow!)

May 27th – in a continuation of Idol Week – I went to NYC and crashed at my friend Jaime’s apt on the upper east side. Waking up at 3:45 got us to Rockefeller Plaza for 5 am and we were in the VIP Fan Pass line to see this season’s winner and runner up Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. Though we came close to meeting Kris, the crowd was a bit to rowdy so that dream will be pushed aside until this summer’s Idol tour makes it to Connecticut.

Another new addition to the site is the “Celebs Ive Met” list – which is as accurate as I could make it off the top of my head – verification coming soon to make sure I didn’t miss anyone. It is in the sidebar under concert stats along with the list of all the shows and bands I’ve seen perform.

It seems that June will be a bit more laid back – with only 2 confirmed concerts and 2 confirmed Broadway show. July on the other hand – well, it’s going to get Full Moon Crazy… more details on that in the next couple of weeks once I have tickets in my hand πŸ™‚

Why I’m Going to Oklahoma

For those of you who aren’t Hanson fans – this weekend is the Hanson Day celebration in Tulsa, OK. May 6, 1997 Middle of Nowhere was released and the mayor declared it “Hanson Day” in Tulsa. Since then, fans have been celebrating this day yearly.

2 years ago, the 10th anniversary of Middle of Nowhere (my how the time flies), Hanson decided to re-record the album acoustically. Rather than do this all by themselves in a studio, they invited Fan Club members to the recording which was not only recorded for a new cd – it was also recorded for a new DVD (which I have yet to watch, though I’ve had it since it came out. I’m such a bad fan)

I did not attend as at the time of the announcement of the event I did not have a job and didn’t want to blow all my savings (I ended up starting my job the day after the event, go figure)

The next night was a Hanson celebration concert of sorts (if i remember correctly) where Ingram Hill was playing along with a local singer named DAVID COOK. (who last year became the American Idol winner)

After missing out on all that fun (and a couple other members only events) I vowed that the next time it was in Oklahoma – I was going no matter what. (plus i had been wanting to visit Tulsa since i was 12, so I might as well get it out of my system)

Tomorrow I fly from Hartford to St Louis to Oklahoma City and meet up with my friend Keena. Saturday will be a day in Tulsa. Sunday afternoon I fly from Oklahoma City to Dallas and back to Hartford.

While I’m not sure how many blog posts there will be, once again be sure to follow my twitter (which I really need to add to the side bar here!) and you’ll be kept somewhat up to date. I’ll be keeping a journal so there will be posts once I get home, for sure.

Two chances to beat the Idol Streak

As you may know, though I have met 5 Idol contestants the only ones I have photos with are ones that came in second. This month I have 2 chances to try and break the streak that I have going.

Sunday I am going to see 4th place runner up Josh Gracin, and near the end of the month I will be seeing last season’s winner, David Cook.

I’m hoping that I can break it on Sunday! I have met Josh before, but didn’t have a camera with me. This weekend I will be sure to have at least one camera with me.

My first radio call in win

And I didn’t go.

On the way home I was caller 11 for tickets and a M&G; with the new boyband, VFactory. I’m really not all that familiar with them, but they weren’t scheduled to perform until 11:30 and I couldn’t find anyone to go with so I opted out. (I have an 8:30 appt tomorrow morning to get my stitches out as well, so, better to rest up!)

I did however buy myself a 3rd row ticket (side section) for Demi Lovato and David Archuleta in June. And then I found out that Taylor Hanson’s new band Tinted Windows would be coming to NYC in June so I got my friend Jen and I tickets to that! June is starting to fill in rather nicely! (I think there are also 2 Mets games and perhaps a trip to Broadway and maybe NKOTB and No Doubt?)

Citi Field – jumbled thoughts.

Citi Field is the new “state of the art” home of the New York Mets. Last year, Shea Stadium was the home of the Mets. Combine the two and you get “Shiti Field” which is what I’ve affectionately been calling the new stadium.

Ok, so it’s not really shitty. It is, after all, state of the art. But if I was a baseball loving Alien from Mars, dropped into the middle of Citi Field, I’d have no freaking clue who played there.

This month I have been there 3 times. April 4th for an exhibition game against the Red Sox, April 18th against the Brewers and April 26 against the Nationals. I’ve noticed more and more additions to the park since the first game, but barely any are Mets related! (Advertisements, now that’s another story)

The main attraction is the “Jackie Robinson Rotunda” dedicated to the Brooklyn Dodger who broke the color barrier. As a female engineer, I totally get how what he did was HUGE for African Americans and baseball. (As I still get looked down upon only because I’m a girl in the field!) But shouldn’t it perhaps be the Los Angeles Dogders paying tribute to him? Since after all he WAS a Dodger (albeit before the team relocated) Perhaps it wouldn’t be as much of burn if the rest of the stadium actually had Mets memorabilia to balance everything out – or even just more blue and orange.

One of my favorite parts about Shea was the colored seats. It was a heck of a lot easier to remember Orange, Red, Blue and Green. Now all the seats are green. And on top of that – there are like 1800 different sections you could be sitting in. Not just Field, Loge, Mezzanine and Upper Deck. At the last game we came up the escalator and there were arrows pointing which way we had to go – but I had no idea where our seats were! There is so much information crammed on the tickets.

Apparently, the green seats are a ‘shout out’ to the Polo Grounds, where the Mets played when they were first formed. Personally, I think it is cheaper to get seats all of a same generic color. The outfield wall is BLACK and with an orange foul line. Apparently this is a ‘shout out’ to how we got our orange, from the New York Giants. (I’ve also read that they couldn’t figure out how to get a Mets Blue to stick to the material of the outfield wall, which I hope is not true because, this place is STATE OF THE ART!)

A huge FAIL, imo, is all the RED at the stadium. Ticket booths outside say TICKETS in Red and a non-Mets blue. It would have been SO easy to throw together a Mets blue and Orange for these signs. That same blue and red follows into the stadium, as each section marker is a round red and blue plaque. Hello! How freaking simple would it be to make that blue and orange?

At the last game my friend and I (who share similar feelings about the stadium) were talking to one of the ushers. He told us there is a ramp that has Mets players pictures on it. We didn’t go check it out, but I’m pretty sure that this ramp has the back side of the images outside the Left Field entrance. Totally doesn’t count.

He also told us that they were working on adding more Mets stuff. Well, it would have been nice if they worked on the Mets stuff FIRST, since, afterall, that is the team we’re going to see play… and threw in all the Dodgers stuff afterwards.

I already know how we got our colors and where we came from. I want to know where we are GOING. And where we’ve been as METS. Citi Field is a museum to where we came from and how we got here. But that is all in the past. The Mets are here NOW. The Dodgers and the Giants are long gone. Wilpon, get over it already.

(I sat 10 rows behind little wilpon last year at Nationals Park. If I knew then what I know now, you can bet I would have been telling him MORE BLUE AND ORANGE. MORE METS! But who would have thought that something so obvious would be left out!?)

Tiffany G – No Average Angel

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbQmzP5KLgY]

I feel bad that I’m being such a slacker in getting the Tiffany/Push Play review and deets posted. So here is a video of Tiffany singing “No Average Angel”

It’s the only video I took and it’s not the best. But hopefully it will hold you over until I can get my act together! πŸ™‚

(I’m slowly realizing that my little camera is quite a failure with taking videso!)

And the streak ends… (i think)

I have set a new world record. At least in my world, that is. The past 5 consecutive days I have purchased a concert ticket (or two)

Saturday – Curtis Peoples ticket was bought at the door
Sunday – Tony Lucca tickets were bought
Monday – Jonas Brothers in NY
Tuesday – Push Play in CT
Wednesday – Jonas Brothers in MA.

Today, if I was feeling up to it, I could get a ticket to see The Alternate Routes tonight in Fairfield. It’s relatively close to my house, but no one is available to go with me, so I will probably pass. IF I did go, then probably tomorrow I’d buy a bamboozle ticket just to have a 7 day streak.. but.. nah.

I’m thinking I am going to wait until the set times are announced for The Bamboozle before I decide to go. I’m interested in checking out Tinted Windows, Honor Society and Demi Lovato to name a few… but I’m not sure I can last a whole day there. So if all the shows are within a 2-3 hour period (I’ll keep dreaming) then I’ll consider it. This won’t be announced until April 27th though.
