A presale at Midnight?

96.5 TIC is holding their All Star Christmas concert again this year and as soon as Kris Allen was announced as a performer, I knew I had to go.

Tickets go on public sale tomorrow morning, but there was a presale which started at midnight last night!  At first I wasn’t sure if they meant noon but got the AM/PM screwed up.. because I had never done a presale at midnight before and it seems like an odd time – especially during the middle of the week!

I had my 4 browsers open though, and was prepared for a midnight presale and at about 12:03, everything went up for sale!  I didn’t have much luck, most tickets were in the 2nd section of the venue and nothing was in the front center sections.

I managed to get 4th row on the left side of the theater and I know Kris really plays up the stage and will run back and forth so I’m not too worried about him – but I’m not sure about everyone else who is performing.

I will give it all another try tomorrow during the public sale and will have to look into LiveNation’s “exchange” program.  They claim if you find better seats at equal or greater value and buy them, you will get exchanged for the other set you bought – at participating venues.  Oakdale is one of the venues so I am hoping if I do find something better it won’t be a HUGE hassle to do an exchange. *fingers crossed*  (I did pull up seats 2 rows closer just after I bought the seats I currently have – but ended up losing them due to the time constraints!)

The countdown to #200

The magic number is 1! That’s right, my next concert will be #200!  I’m kind of amazed that I did so many concerts, so fast.  It took me nearly 10 years to hit 100 in July of 2008.  Now, less than 2 and a half years later – I am going to hit 200!  I guess that’s what happens when you have your license and a “real” job. (As well as a season lawn pass for the summer! That helped too!)

As of right now, #200 will be Tyler Hilton and Josiah Leming on Saturday October 30 in Fairfield, CT with my friend Jessa!  Unless of course something else pops up before then.  I don’t forsee that happening, but you never know!

I don’t think I’ll really do anything to “celebrate” but the scrapbook page will have to be nice and sparkly lol

(Speaking of scrapbook pages – I am all caught up with the exception of the Jason and Kris/Lifehouse stuff from last week!  Layouts will be posted soon!)

Lifehouse&Kris Allen 10/15/10 Smoke&Mirrors Tour

Last night Kris Allen and Lifehouse came to MGM Grand at Foxwoods for the Smoke and Mirrors tour.  Somehow we managed to get orchestra seats, I had never been that close before at the venue.  I wonder if it has something to do with Ticketmaster selling some of the tickets now…

I had thought that there would be another opener – a girl that was discovered on Youtube was on the tour, or so I thought, but when 8pm hit and the lights went down it was Kris Allen’s band that was on the stage… which threw me. I wasn’t ready for that at all so I spent half of the first song digging in my purse to find my camera! (She probably wasn’t there because Foxwoods is probably pretty strict about how long and late everyone can play)

Kris sounded great, but I wasn’t getting the same energy as I did at the Oakdale show with Keith Urban.  I think this was due to the crowd though, not Kris.  Kris was definitely ‘on’.  I was surprised he didn’t sing The Truth and was surprised that he did sing Red Guitar – I was thinking he’d have done roughly the same set as he did with Keith.

For merch, Kris had 2 shirts, one yellow with a Buck on it and a light shirt with multi colored piano on it, a zip up hoodie and a signed photo.  I got the photo right away but I was a bit sad that it probably meant Kris wasn’t going to be signing anywhere!  (Usually I don’t like getting autos unless I got them from the artist myself but the fact that I had Adam’s signature and not Kris’ was kind of bothering me lol)

After Kris’ set ended, with a Live Like We’re Dying sing-a-long, it was time for a 20 minute intermission. (Kris played roughly 40 minutes)

Lifehouse came out at about 9.  I really don’t know any of their stuff but the radio singles, but I did enjoy their performance.  It was quite a change from the very quick acoustic set I had seen them do earlier this year (with only half the band)  Their stage setup was relatively basic – with the exception of some screens around the drumset that had different effects going on them throughout the night.

They did about 7 songs and then all but Jason left the stage.  He said for the next 10-15 minutes we were in charge of the setlist and allowed people to yell out requests.  Of course it would have been nice if he said what the requests were (all he mentioned was “Everything”) to make my setlist keeping go a little bit easier haha because I couldn’t really make out what anyone was yelling at him and I’m kind of surprised he could! Near the end, Rick came out and stood off to the side looking like he was yawning and bored.  Then he moved closer as Jason kept playing and eventually was so close to Jason that he couldn’t help but laugh and they went back to a full band set up.

Jason also went through the crowd a bit for a song.  This caused a frenzy, as expected! The ushers were running to block off the stairs so people wouldn’t go running all over the place to get closer to him. (I think this was during Whatever It Takes, because for Wrecking Ball Jason was MIA for some of the song – or maybe I just couldn’t see him because Big Foot was 2 rows in front of me conveniently blocking Jason for a good 70% of the show lol)

Since it was the first night of the show, I tried to keep track of the setlist but as I am not familiar with a lot of Lifehouse’s stuff, there are a couple songs that I can’t figure out now.  Also, Everything is on there twice.  They definitely did it in the encore, and Jason said the name during his little acoustic set so I am assuming he sang it there as well (he only did bits of the songs then, from what I could tell) but I am not 100% sure.  If anyone knows what the missing 2 songs are based on the lines I have posted, leave me a comment so I can update 🙂  I’m actually pretty impressed with myself that there were only 2 songs I couldn’t eventually figure out (I usually write down a line or two from the song that is repeated, sometimes it ends up being the song title – sometimes I have to google and then sometimes even then I still have nothing)  Thanks to Will for filling in the blanks on the songs for me 🙂

Jason Castro Mohegan Sun Reality Check October 14

After missing a couple of other Idol alums at the casino, I finally made it up there for Jason Castro (one of my faves from his season)  He was performing as part of Mohegan Sun’s “Reality Check” which features various reality show people at the casino for events.

At 7pm, Jason was to perform in the Cabaret Theater.  I had never seen a show in there before, but I had researched it before hand and saw that it held about 350 people.  When I got in line a little before 6pm, there were maybe 50 people in front of me so I knew I would be making it inside, but where I would end up sitting was unknown.

At about 6:30pm everyone was let into the venue and unlike the Wolf’s Den where they seat you, we were told we could sit wherever we wanted inside as long as it was not a table in the front that said reserved.  I managed to get a seat at the end of one of the second “rows” of tables.  I took out my camera and started playing with the settings only to realized – I HAD NO MEMORY CARD!  I also did this in August at Arthur Ashe Kids day – but that day I also had a backup memory card to save the day.  Unfortunately this time the cards were both at home on my desk!  Luckily, my camera has some internal memory and I manged to play with the settings and get it to hold 24 photos on sport mode. (Now I just have my fingers crossed they will print as 4x6s without a problem for my scrapbook!)

Everything was running a bit late, so Jason came out after 7pm. Setlist was as follows:

That’s What I’m Here For
Let’s Just Fall In Love Again
Love Uncompromised
If I Were You
Somewhere Over The Rainbow
Who I Really Am
You Are
Hallelujah

After the performance (which I have some video clips of and will made a media post in the not so distant future) he did a short Q&A.;  The first question he was asked was which was his favorite song of his. he answered saying “It Matters To Me” and then noted that he didn’t sing it for us and apologized.  I decided to leave as he was getting asked what his first song he ever sung was,  as he was doing an autograph signing after and it was waaaaaaaaaay down the hall and I didn’t want to get stuck in a stampede once everyone was leaving.

I was surprised there was such a crowd already in line, once again about 50 people, when I had only seen a few others “sneak” out.  Jason had said during his performance he would be taking photos and signing, and it seemed like they had a professional photographer taking a lot of photos.  Then when it was almost our turn to get up there they said pictures OF him, not with him.  We said ok and I figured a picture of me facing him while he signed was better than nothing – but after he saw the flash go off he decided to pose! So I have a photo of me looking at him and one of us looking at the camera.  Thanks Jason for breaking the rules haha  They should have been more consistent with that from the beginning, because it is hard to say “ok” to not getting a picture with him, when everyone in front of you got a picture with him!

Jason’s performance was awesome – I think he sounded much stronger since his Idol days though he is still a bit awkward on stage. (But that is just part of his appeal)  His guitarist (Steve?) noted that off stage he told really great jokes and yet when he gets on stage it’s like a switch goes off and Jason said that everyone makes him nervous, but we were making him comfortable and that is why he was joking/talking so much.

A few photos under the cut!

Keith Urban w/ Kris Allen Oakdale Theater 9/5/10

As I had mentioned before, I ended up winning tickets to this show very last minute from Kris Allen’s band, but I was very excited that I won.  All day yesterday and Saturday too I was refreshing LiveNation’s ticket sale site hoping something would pop up.  Single tickets were coming up, but they were far away and they were $97.50 on Saturday and $99.50 yesterday (they up the price on the day of the show!)  Then more tickets closer to the center started getting released but the more I thought about it, the more I couldn’t justify $100 when I was basically only going to see Kris.  (I’d have stayed to see Keith either way but being unemployed for the time being I have to look at how I spend my money a bit differently than when I had a job!)

As I have said before – winning contests is all about following the right people on twitter.  Kris Allen’s band was the twitter to follow in this situation and I had seen that they had done giveaways for other shows.  I just wasn’t sure if they’d have any tickets to give away for Keith.  But then about 3:30 they posted saying they had only 2 pairs to giveaway.  Other days it was 4 or 5 pairs so I knew I had to be quick!  They posted the question and I freaked out because I didn’t know it off the top of my head! Thought about it, figured it out and posted.  Then I sat there waiting to see if I was one of the first two to enter correctly – and I WAS.

My mom has said she likes Keith Urban so I asked her if she wanted to go and she said sure!  We got to Oakdale and at first they couldn’t find the tickets. They asked me “How did you get the tickets?” when I said “From Kris Allen’s Band” at first she seemed confused but then found them almost immediately in a different pile.  A special pile of tickets I guess 😉  I handed my mom her ticket, and glanced down and saw “102” as the section.  Since I had been trying for a day and a half for the tickets I had basically had the seating chart memorized.  I told my mom they were really good seats and she said they weren’t and we were on the side.  I assured her we were in the center section, just quite a few rows back (We were the 2nd to the last row of the section) and finally she believed me.

At 7:30, Kris and his band came out!  I get so excited to see him, really no one else gets the kind of reaction out of me that he does!  He started with Can’t Stay Away, then did his mashup of Heartless and Gangsta’s Paradise.  It seemed to be more polished since I had last seen him do it in December at the radio shows.

Then he went into my favorite, Alright with Me, and had the crowd sing the ‘yeah yeah yeah yeah’s  I wasn’t sure how the crowd would react to him because I feel like country is an odd pairing for Kris – but then again I left the show wondering how Keith is considered country! But the crowd seemed really into it, even though there weren’t too many people at their seats at the time.

Then he did The Truth, and I still wonder why the label felt the need to include Pat Monahan on the single because Kris sings it quite well all on his own! He did Written All Over My Face next… and then did one that he thought everyone would know and sing along to – Michael Jackson’s Man In The Mirror.  I remember in the beginning of Idol, I gave everyone nicknames because I couldn’t remember names and his was “Michael Jackson Boy” haha because he sang MJ twice. (once I think in the semis and then again for MJ week)

After that he did 2 more of his own songs – Is It Over and Live Like We’re Dying where he encouraged everyone to get up and have a dance party to the song.  To finish out his set he did a cover of Come Together.  I was worried my camera battery wouldn’t last because I hadn’t changed them since JUNE but they held out for all of Kris’ set which was really all I needed them to do.

When it was time for Keith to come out – I grabbed the camera and it started blinking ‘Battery Empty’  It would have been nice to have some better photos of Keith, but I forgot my backup batteries at home because I had taken them out of my purse a couple weeks ago so it wouldn’t weigh me down when I didn’t have my “bigger” camera.

Keith hit the stage at about 9pm and played til a little before 11. (I think when we got to the car it was 11)  I started out standing for him, so I could see, but the seats were on such an incline it was taking too much effort for me to keep my balance so I ended up sitting for most of the show and standing up here and there.  More near the end of the show people had left so I could see him even from my seat, which was nice!

Keith was very high energy and the band was more of a rock n roll band than a country band, I thought. He had a great stage presence and seemed like he is really good to his fans and really loves that he has them.  It had been 5 years since he had last played at Oakdale!  He gave a lot of shout outs to the people up top in the balcony and then teased about the people in the boxes saying stuff like “My Lord it is great to play for you”

Since I was sitting, I was able to pull up a set list from the night before to follow along – and listen for the titles in the chorus’.  So yes, I cheated a bit on the setlist haha (Though there were a few changes and additions that I had to keep track of)  He also had a call and response section where he was just making stuff up – at one point he had the crowd repeating the alphabet back to him!  Too funny…

There were 2 highlights of the night for me at least, the first was when he had Kris come back out to sing “Jack and Diane” with him.  I had told my mom that Kris sings with him most of the time, and that we definitely couldn’t leave before that (although once we were there, we weren’t leaving lol) and of course as Kris came out the battery in my other camera started blinking! Argh! Luckily I had a backup for that camera though and was able to quickly switch it out. Kris forgot the words to the song and Keith teased him saying “and you won american idol?” and Kris just yelled “I forgot the words!” He is so cute!  The crowd helped out a bit though.

The second was when he was playing a guitar that was lighting up different colors.  It was really cool.  And then he jumped into the crowd!  We were technically on the aisle of our section (as the people next to us had left at this point) but he managed to go down just about every aisle in the front BUT ours!  Women were freaking out that he touched them and the poor guards had to hold everyone back from rushing from the back sections down to where he was.  He played part of the song right behind us on I guess a little stand so we went from being in the back of the section to the front!  I thought he was very brave to run through the crowd like that – even though he had security he got the whole crowd into a frenzy!  Then for his next song he was still catching his breath and turned the mic to the crowd to sing most of it!

One of the changes to the setlist was that his friend Troy Cassar-Daley was there, and he came out and sang a song. He said he was bringing him out to play because they didn’t want to leave yet.  Then Troy played guitar for Better Life and the show was over.

Until it was time for the encore, of course.  He came out and sang “I Only Want To Be With You”, which I think is a Bay City Rollers song? Which was another difference from the show the night before whos setlist I was cheating from!  He finished the evening with Somebody Like You and then him and the band threw out tons and tons of guitar picks and drumsticks but unfortunately no one could get it far back enough to where we were!

Overall it was a great show and I am very glad that I got to go see it – Kris said during his set that it was a great show and he was definitely right!

I feel like this is one of the longest blogs I have written in a while LOL pictures coming either later today or tomorrow.. depending on when I have time to get it set up!
