Product Review: Solid Cordz

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Here’s a true story that happened at my house recently.  I wake up and come downstairs and my mom goes “Katie! I left the Christmas lights on all night because I had to use this big extension cord because the timer didn’t fit in the box on the porch and then it snowed and then the timer got frozen so it never turned off! I need to find a way to keep the timer on the porch so it is covered!”  I knew that I had a set of Solid Cordz in my room, but hadn’t had a chance to look at them yet because they arrived while I was nursing an arm injury and working on blog posts was the last thing on my mind. So I told her where to find them and told her to grab one and try it out.  She came in “That was exactly what I needed! It sticks out of the box but the timer is still on the porch!”  (Note: It does say for indoor use only, but we figure covered on the porch it will be safe. It has snowed again since the original frozen timer issue and we’ve not had a problem.)

I had intended to show using the Solid Cordz to help with a power strip – because several of my plugs (camera battery chargers, for the most part) take up 2 slots on the power strip once you plug them in.  Once you have the Solid Cordz you can fully utilize all of the plugs on the strip and things are kept a bit more orderly.  As you can see in the photos below – the strip before – there are 2 spots open and I have one in the side which doesn’t seem to work as well as the middle.  Then I put the battery charger only for it to cover the additional plug, but wait! Add a SolidCordz to the 3rd plug and attach the camera charger to it and there is no problem adding the 4th plug!

Product Review: PicLight

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
piclight1

PicLight (Normally $19.99, now $4.99 during the limited-time new product promo) is an app for Mac for adding various lighting effects and stacking effects to photos for endless possibilities.  Think of it like Instagram for your Mac but you can add multiple filters and effects to it to make a really unique photo.  Please note that this app only works if you have OS X Lion or above. (I had to upgrade my OS in order to use this app and because my Mac is “vintage” this is as high as I can go with operating system. Might be time to think about upgrading.)

There are 4 different categories of lighting effects: Montage, Light, Glow and Texture with over 170 different effects total.  There are also over 25 image filters such as B&W, Sepia, Vintage, etc.  There are also different features such as cropping, flipping, etc.   You’ll have a ton of fun playing with it.  So far I’ve done one photo but I know there will be many more to come over time.

Buy it in the App Store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/piclight/id734946882?ls=1&mt=12

It is super easy and fun to use, you can click through all of the different effects to see which one works best for your photo and stack them in each of the categories.  You can see what I did above with my Backstreet Boys M&G photo – it looks like we are on fire and the photo almost looks like it’s been burned as well.  I was able to do all this clicking through every effect in less than 5 minutes and I am very pleased with he results!

Product Review: Fage Greek Yogurt

fage

Recently, as a bzzagent, I was sent some coupons to try out Fage (pronounced Fa-Yeh).  I have tried other greek yogurt before but I have to say I think Fage is my new favorite.  My only trouble was trying to get the honey into the yogurt. If you scoop it with a spoon, or squeeze it, it will go in but not all of it.  My mom suggested maybe it should come with a tiny spoon that you can fit in to it to scoop out all the goodness because “that’s the best part!”

Since 1926, FAGE has been making delicious yogurt from a simple family recipe of milk, live active cultures and cream — no added sweeteners, thickeners or powders here. This approach, along with the rich and creamy results it yields, has made FAGE the #1 brand of yogurt in Greece.

FAGE Total Split Cups continue the tradition, pairing the classic FAGE family Greek yogurt recipe with natural and flavorful fruit toppings for a perfectly portable, healthy snack that can be enjoyed anytime and anywhere. Rich in protein and low in calories, FAGE Total Split Cups are a deliciously good-for-you alternative to other sweet snacks like pastries, ice cream or pudding.

Product Review: SlimFast

IMAG0247IMAG0249

I was sent a coupon for slimfast through Influenster in order to try it out. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it, but I don’t typically have breakfast and figured it wouldn’t hurt to try and have breakfast of one of the slimfast shakes for a week.  I had never tried it before and initially I thought it smelled kind of bad – but it was chocolate so how bad could it be?  It actually was very good.  The first day I was still hungry (or more hungry than I would have been without it) immediately after finishing it – but as I continued to drink them and the week went on I was able to push back when I ate my lunch and wasn’t going home starving every night.  I also wasn’t feeling guilty for eating something like cookies for breakfast because the slimfast is low in calories and high in protein. I would certainly recommend this problem and I will not hesitate to drink them again!

Product Review: SlingGRIP

When I bought my new phone I was warned – the screen was big and I might not be able to hold it with one hand. I’m willing to admit I’ve dropped the thing on my face looking at stuff in bed more than once. But now I can leave those days behind me. I now have SlingGRIP.  SlingGRIP is amazing and attaches to the back of any phone or phone case. You can slip a couple of fingers into it and easily hold the phone with one hand! In addition to phones, it will also work on e-readers and ipods!

SlingGRIP is made in the USA with natural rubber elastic. It is made of recycled BPH free plastic and uses Super 3M adhesives – which won’t damage your gear.

I’ve had the slingGRIP on my phone for a couple of weeks now and it has made things so much easier! It is orange to match my phone case and I have no worries sticking the phone in my pocket or purse that the SlingGRIP will fall off.  It also comes in Black, White, Green, Pink, Purple, Red and Blue.

slingGRIP retails for $9.95 and is a sound investment – especially if you are one of those people that often drops your phone. Grip it to your hand when you are carrying it instead and it will stay more secure and hopefully OFF the ground!   Replacement adhesive is also available for $1.95 on the site in case you get a new phone or case and need to switch things out!

Find out all the details at http://www.thingsling.com/ – Christmas is coming this would be PERFECT for a stocking stuffer for the tech-fiend in your family!

Product Reviews: Bandelettes

logo1
If you’re like me, you avoid wearing skirts because your legs will rub together and it bothers you.  Or, you wear a small pair of shorts underneath the skirt to stop it from happening. I recently got to try out Bandelettes – Anti Chaffing Elastic thigh bands and I am thinking that you might be seeing me in skirts a bit more often now.  These things are amazing and they look a heck of a lot better than a pair of shorts if they happen to be seen.  The bands are 6″ in length and are made of delicate lace with non slip silicone straps to keep them in place and protect your inner thighs from rubbing.
Bandelettes lightly wrap around your thighs a create a barrier between them, providing full comfort and decorating legs at the same time.  You can wear them even if you are lucky enough to have legs that don’t rub together – just to add a little bit more sexy to that perfect outfit.
They are comfortable to wear – the lace is not itchy or bothersome at all and the silicone stripes really help them stay in place. I tried all sorts of movements and jumping and they didn’t fall down.
To get your size, simply measure while standing around your thigh.  If you don’t have a ruler that will go around your thigh, use a string and measure that against the ruler!
Bandelettes come in 6 sizes and different colors.
Can be purchased at http://www.bandelettes.com/ for $14.99 and worldwide shipping is available.

Review & Giveaway: Dream Essentials Contoured Sleep Mask

DSC05400

Since we moved into the new house, I’ve been having a lot of trouble falling asleep at night because there is light coming in from under my bedroom door and there’s a street lamp just outside my window where the light peeks in even when the blinds are closed.

I decided to try out the Dream Essentials Contoured Sleep Mask.  They claim it is “so light you will hardly believe you have it on your face” and I’d have to agree.  It is very comfortable and molds to your face, unlike some other sleep masks I’ve tried in the past.  It also won’t make you hot when you sleep, it’s soft, flexible and breathable.  The last thing you want is to wake up over heated because of the mask, open your eyes and see pitch black and freak out…

It truly is pitch black once you put it on.  I’m on of those people if I ever have blindfolds on for games I will always figure out a way to cheat.  However with this mask it fits perfectly to your face so there will be no light slipping in anywhere.

The mask has velcro in the back so you can adjust it to the size of your head – or adjust if needed depending on your hairstyle!

Product Review: Wantable.com Makeup Box

The big trend now seems to be these “box of the month” clubs where you can get makeup, accessories, food, etc. While they are great, a lot of times you just get whatever they are sending that month which means you might get makeup colors you’d never consider using or other items that you are just not interested in at all.  That is unless you sign up at Wantable.com.  When you sign up you take a “style quiz” and rate items based on if you like it, love it, or dislike it.  You’ll get a mixture of items that you like and love but not items that you’ve ranked as dislike.  Each box comes with full-sized premium makeup. (Or accessories or intimate products depending on which you choose – but I reviewed the makeup box.)

The style quiz is quick and easy based on makeup types (eye liner, nailpolish, blush, etc) colors (neutral, bright, etc) or types (matte, powder, etc) and you’ll get your personalized box delivered to your door.  I was super excited to get this box and really pleased with the results.  Everything in the box is something that I will surely enjoy using.

I received the following in my box, the packing slip gives you all the details on what you’ve received in case you want to buy more once you’re done with the ones in your box. It also lists the retail prices as well (mine varied from $10-$24)

29 Cosmetics Dew Lip Gloss French Oak
Rainbow Honey Nail Lacquer Wistful
Girlactik Beauty Eye Glaze Glamour
Whipe Hand Cosmetics Cheek Flash Beachhouse
Skiin Skiin Instant Skin Tightener & Line Filler Sample

I am very impressed with the box and love that it is customized to items that I like and will definitely be using!  Boxes retail for $40 for a one-time purchase or $36 for a monthly subscriptions.  Subscribers will received monthly personalized boxes and can cancel or skip at any time.

Jammy Jams Hair Metal Goes Lullaby

jammyjams

I had previously reviewed the Once Upon a Rhyme compilation, and now Jammy Jams has released their 4th release – “Hair Metal Goes Lullaby”  Jammy Jams elevates lullaby music to a whole new level of awesomeness. Whether you are a child of the 80s or are shopping for a little one born yesterday, these gentle lullabies will captivate and delight. You have to listen to believe that songs originally performed by heavy hitters like Motley Crue or Bon Jovi could be transformed into these incredibly peaceful and comforting arrangements. Like a hug from your best pair of spandex pants, Jammy Jams’ soothing sounds embrace, providing the reassurance needed ofr you or your little dream warrior to slip into a cozy slumber.

It’s never to early to start your kids on the classics of hair metal with Jammy Jams!  With the first CD I wasn’t sure what to expect – with this one that I was reviewing I knew that it would be absolutely amazing and it did not disappoint.  Who knew listening to Bon Jovi could soothe me to sleep?  When I think of Whitesnake Here I Go Again, I don’t really think about going to sleep.  But with the Jammy Jams version? It’s a whole other story.

Product Review: Old El Paso Frozen Entrees #MyBlogSpark

OEPLogo

Last night I tried out the Old El Paso Chicken Enchiladas Dinner for 2.  For the half serving, it was 320 calories – which was 3 of the 6 enchiladas.  They were really good, in a corn tortilla with some chili sauce that had just the right amount of heat to it (for me, anyway, I’m a wuss haha).   This is certainly something that I would be willing to try again and was pretty easy to make – a few minutes in the microwave and then 20-25 minutes in the oven to bake it to perfection!  I don’t have any pictures of it done – I was starving and totally forgot to snap any pics until we were done eating!  But it looked, smelled and tasted absolutely great!
