Hanson New Orleans

My second set of shows on Hanson’s Roots & Rock N Roll tour was in New Orleans, LA.  I woke up at 2am, headed to the airport and got to New Orleans about 11am.  Tara picked me up and then we waited for Rachel to land about an hour after me and then we headed to the hotel, which fortunately let us check in early.

We did some shopping, exploring and eating before the show both days.  Night 1 was Zac’s birthday show so we knew we would be in for at least some cake.  During the last song of Paul McDonald’s set, Carrick joined him on stage and next thing I knew all of Hanson was on stage too for “Renegade” (Check out my youtube for video!)

When Hanson first took the stage they sang happy birthday to Zac and mixed up the setlist a bit by starting with “Teach Your Children” – this wasn’t a new song for my never before heard list, but it was the first time it had been done on this tour and it had been a while since they had done it live. (It was a bit of a staple in 2003, and only came up a few times since then in setlists)

The rest of the setlist, for the most part, was the same as in New York City.  But they did add a totally new cover to the list – Leon Russell’s “Delta Lady”.  I ended up trying to google what they were singing to figure it out and when I saw Leon Russell’s name I figured that had to be it – and Isaac confirmed after the song by mentioning it was a Leon song!

After Zac’s “I Believe In A Thing Called Love”, Taylor went and got a cake that had candles for “30” on it.  Zac sang happy birthday to himself and then smashed his own face in the cake because then he’d get to eat it all himself. It was cheesecake.  He also mentioned if you licked him, he’d taste like cheesecake.

Then it was time for the after party.  I thought Zac may show up to have a bit of a birthday party with us all, but I only saw him sneaking around on the balcony.  We ended up leaving before it was over to head back to the hotel.

Day 2 Hanson took a 1 mile walk with concert goers in the afternoon.  I worked at the registration table and got to talk to Zac a bit after the walk about how hot, humid and muggy it was and mardi gras beads. We had 172 walkers.

The second show had a similar setlist as well, but Taylor did Love Me as his solo which is probably my favorite Taylor solo so I was excited about that.  They also did Yearbook (again) which features my name so my 2 friends in front of me on the balcony turned around and made sad faces at me!

Afterwards, we decided to wait by the bus. Zac came out, but there were too many people for us to get near him. About an hour later Isaac came out and we moved to a spot to get a photo with him and decided to leave.  Taylor ended up coming out about an hour after that, but since we decided to leave for Dallas at 4am because of the hurricane coming we decided not to bother sticking around.

Setlists under the cut. Pictures coming soon.

Hanson Roots & Rock N Roll Tour NYC

As I had mentioned in an earlier post, Hanson’s current tour is 2 shows in each city. I am going to 6 shows, or 3 cities. My first one was New York City. My goal for the entire tour was to hear *10* new songs live that I had never heard before. After the first 2 shows I have heard 13.  I guess now with my trip I have nothing else to aspire to – only to hope they start to mix the setlist up a little more.

We were a bit nervous heading back to Irving Plaza after all the trouble we had last time Hanson was in town. But the staff members we had issue with seem to no longer be on the staff and everything worked out ok – except for the fact that they didn’t tell us I could only bring 1 person to ADA with me so we’d have to split up 2 and 1.  Fortunately for the second night we were able to work it out so we could all be together.

Night 1 was covers night where I had 9 new songs.  They did mix in a few Hanson songs too.  They did U2, Stevie Wonder, Beach Boys, Billy Joel, Paul Simon… a lot of the music I grew up on (because as my mom said “their parents are your parents”)  That was going to be a hard setlist (and a hard tour) to top.

Night 2 was Hanson night but the did some more covers – like Michael Jackson and Ed Sheeran and Taylor did a solo rendition of “A Song For You” which I know from American Idol (Elliott and I think Kris Allen has done it too) but I may be biased but I think Taylor’s is one of the best I’ve heard.

And of course since every Hanson concert needs to be an adventure – we were told the afterparty was starting at 11 and ended up getting there a little after 11 (thanks to a super slow waiter) and decided we’d leave about 12:30 to give us roughly an hour to take 2 subways to Penn Station. (Looking back – we should have just gotten a cab but hindsight is 20/20)  When the first subway took FOR-EV-ER to get to the platform we thought we’d still have enough time because we had built in extra time to account for me walking slow, etc and I’d just kick it into high gear if I had to.  Well, when the second subway also took FOR-EV-ER to get there we knew we were screwed.  So were a bunch of others on the platform. So we had 2 options.  Wait until the next train 3 hours later (4am) OR pay a premium to get a ride back to New Jersey – something that a lot of cabs didn’t want to do.  So we decided to pay the premium for a ride.

Night 2 we decided to drive in to make sure we wouldn’t have to deal with missing any trains – only to have my friend Marisa tell me she was in the car with it running charging her phone and she sees a guy in the side mirror peeing on the back of my car.  I mean how stupid/drunk/on drugs do you have to be to pee on a car that someone is obviously in because it is RUNNING?  She ended up turning the car off and hitting the lock/unlock to make the lights flash and then he went “oh shit” yeah. Asshole.

Also in attendance Night 2 was MTV Wanna Be A VJ winner – Jesse Camp! We saw him during the show (and I may have freaked out a little…) and after the show he went by the barricades set up at the bus to meet people. We were nowhere near close though I did try t get a few pics.  We also struck out getting pics with Hanson since we weren’t near the barricades. Bummer.

Highlights include…

Taylor: If you’re with a guy you have to remind to tell you you’re beautiful, you’re with the wrong guy
Isaac: And if he doesn’t hold a door open for you, he’s also the wrong guy
Zac: And if you have to remind him to shower… he’s every guy
(paraphrased)

After night 1 there were 2 girls fighting and security went to break it up and one of the security guards (female) grabbed on of the girls and put her IN A HEADLOCK to get her off the other girl.  Probably one of the craziest things I’d ever seen at a Hanson show.

At the after party there was a girl in just her bra dancing around.  At the bus after the show night 2 there was a girl in a bra because she took her shirt off to have Zac & Taylor sign it. (And it was COLD that night)

Watching the bus driver attempt to park the bus along the sidewalk 18 thousand times (which then blocked the view of the bar across the street and the playoff baseball I was watching!)

Song of the weekend: I can’t feel my face

Hanson T-Shirts

For Hanson Day in May I decided to make a couple of custom Hanson T-shirts for the weekend.  I am getting into using heat transfer vinyl (and hoping that I will get a heat press for Christmas so I can stop using the iron – which works well but not as great as a press would) and I also decided to make a rhinestone Hanson symbol.  A lot of people stopped me and asked where I got the shirt so it was always nice to say, “I made it!”

The vinyl shirt was blue glitter and symbols to mean “eat, sleep, hanson” Although we teased for Hanson Day Weekend I should put Red Xs through the first two because there’s so much Hanson going on there is not a lot of time for eating and sleeping!  I’m sure these shirts will be making an appearance on the fall tour at some point – although when I went to photograph them I did notice that some of the vinyl and rhinestones are coming loose so they will have to be fixed up a bit first!

The rhinestone shirt was silver rhinestones on a red shirt.  This one was tough to make, it took a long time to set all the rhinestones in place, but I am super happy with how it came out.  I am going to try to make another rhinestone shirt soon – probably the Mets NY… so stay tuned to see how that comes out 🙂

EDIT I managed to fix the popped up vinyl and rhinstone using my hair straightener! It’s probably not enough of a heat press to do an entire shirt but it definitely worked in a pinch!

Hanson Roots & Rock ‘N’ Roll Tour

rnrtourbanner_1200x675_2

Today officially begins Hanson’s Roots & Rock ‘N’ Roll Tour.  This tour is unlike any other Hanson has embarked on.  They are performing 20 shows in 10 cities with 2 special shows in each city.  The first night will be the “roots” – iconic cover songs from Hanson’s influencers (and some modern covers as well) and night 2 will be the “rock n roll” – Hanson songs – hopefully including some rarer songs that they don’t typically play live.  It is sold as an “experience” and not 2 different tickets because they want you to feel like it is one show just over two nights, expanded and exploded.

To kick off the tour right, they released an EP, appropriately titled “Roots & Rock ‘N’ Roll” with 5 cover songs that is available for purchase at Hanson.net as a digital download or physical CD and CDs will also be available at each stop on the tour.  The 5 songs are Sly and the Family Stones “I Want To Take You Higher” a song they first started playing live in 2008, Sam & Dave’s “Hold On I’m Coming”, which they first started playing live in 2009 and three never before played live tracks – Michael Jackson’s “Remember The Time”, The Darkness “I Believe In A Thing Called Love” and Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud”.

The tour is also a way to introduce the Hanson Brothers Beer Company’s “MMMHops” to new markets and after the first night of each show there will be an after party with a DJ Set by none other than Taylor Hanson.  The afternoon before show #2* Hanson will take fans on a one mile barefoot charity walk to raise money for their charity Take The Walk. (*except in Chicago)

Speaking of Chicago – Night 2 of the Chicago show – which happens to be tomorrow – will be streamed LIVE on Yahoo! Music (https://screen.yahoo.com/live/event/hanson) at 8:30pm EST.  Can’t make it to a show and want to see what it’s all about? Here’s your chance!

Opening acts for the tour will be American Idol alum Paul McDonald for Night 1 and former lead singer of Everybody Else gone solo performance CARRICK on night 2.

I will be attending 3 cities on this falls tour and I could not be more excited.  I’m braving Irving Plaza for the New York city dates and heading to New Orleans for Zac’s 30th birthday mischief and then road tripping the 8 hours to Dallas, TX to finish up my run.  I have made a goal of hearing *10* never before heard by me tracks over my 6 show run.   I believe my record from Back to the Island in January was 11 (with 7 being the most in one show) so it would be awesome to tie that but we will see.  Assuming they play the full EP at each concert (or at least once over my 3 shows) I’ll have 3 new songs right there, so I’ll be almost a third of the way to my goal.  They’ve also been teasing that they are learning Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Leon Russell, etc so keep your fingers cross.  I’ll make some sort of stat post sometime after I get home. (I’m trying to make it seem like I don’t already have it penciled in to be the end of November – when I’ll assumingly have enough time to get my life back together – it always seems to take forever to get back in to the groove of the “real world” after these trips!)  Reviews of the shows should be coming sooner than that though… by the end of the month *fingers crossed*

Blues Traveler at Red Rocks July 4, 2015

When I heard that Blues Traveler was playing at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado and Hanson was opening – I knew I somehow had to make it to the show since seeing a show at Red Rocks is on my bucket list and seeing Hanson there would make it that much more awesome. I did my research and found out that ADA was 1st row or 70th row (last row) so I decided it would be “first row or bust”.

Things started falling into place and I found someone to meet up with and share a hotel and car rental with.  Friday morning I flew out to Denver, we did some sightseeing around downtown and got way too many VooDoo Doughnuts.

Saturday we stopped to find a Buffalo Herd and then headed to Red Rocks to check out the museum and see the view from the top of the venue. Amazing.

With rain on the way, we made a trip to Walmart to get some ponchos to make sure we’d be ok to sit in our seats the whole show and not miss anything due to running for cover!

Then it was time to get our shuttle ride to the front row so we could enjoy the show! Once we got there we were waiting around for a while and heard Hanson soundchecking I’ve Got Soul and Where’s the Love. When they (finally) let us inside, Zac was coming from the stage so I got to say hello to him!

Our seats were kind of far away so we asked if we could move closer for Hanson and obviously move when whoever seats we were in showed up. We were told that was fine – BUT if security sent us back to our seats then to listen to them because they were in charge.  Fortunately the seats we picked worked out for us for the whole show.

Hanson was up first and they played about 50 minutes, roughly 11 songs.  We figured the set would be pretty vanilla – greatest hits – but got a treat when they had John Popper come out to perform In The City with them on harmonica.  John was featured on a couple of tracks on Hanson’s sophomore release – This Time Around.  Fortunately there was no rain for their whole set which made me happy because I didn’t have to hide my camera from the rain.

Next up was Guster and the lead singer joked about having to take the stage after MMMBop. It was raining throughout their set so I didn’t take too many photos and spent pretty much the rest of the night in and out of my poncho (towards the end it was more for keeping warm than keeping dry). The lead singer’s shirt ripped and he realized it and was wondering if his nipple had been showing. Next thing you know he’s showing it and it’s up on the giant screen next to the stage!

Then it was time for Blues Traveler. I was hoping that JC from NSYNC would be a “special guest” and we figured out that he was already in town the night before filming a music video with Blues Traveler and 3Oh!3 so most of their set I was waiting for those songs to hit the setlist – but figured they’d be near the end if they were making a video – it must be a single.  Aside from the new songs – since I have their new album – the only songs that I knew were The Hook and Run Around.  There was a lot more jamming than singing.  Rome Ramirez was one of the special guests and did 3 songs with the band – including Sublime’s “What I Got” since Rome tours w/ Sublime a lot.  Hanson came out and did Top of the World with the band – complete with lyrics taped to the stage for Taylor.  And then… John called 3Oh!3 to the stage – and who followed them? JC Chasez!!! He ended up doing Hurricane and Blow Up The Moon with Blues Traveler and 3Oh!3 – and where did he stand? Right in front of the new seats we had picked out and no one had kicked us out of.

Then it was time for the encore. Blues Traveler did one song by themselves and then called out the special guests and some of the guys from Guster out.  JC started out with “The Joker” and they did a few other songs in a medley and everyone was just having a great time on stage. I was doing ok videoing because JC was near Zac Hanson – but once they split up it was hard to decide who to record so I tried to get a little bit of everyone in there.  My video has been passed around a lot so I guess I did an ok job 😉  But the TRUE bucketlist moment came at the end of the encore – when I hear over the speakers “hey hey – bye bye bye” and JC started singing Bye Bye Bye. And I started crying.  There is no concert I want more than an NSYNC reunion – and for now 1/5 of NSYNC singing an NSYNC song live in front of me while I’m in the front row is probably as close as I’m going to get for a while anyway. And I’m ok with that. But I would also like JC to come out of hiding and tour! Please?

The whole way back to the car I just kept saying how I couldn’t believe that just happened and had to compose myself a bit before I could drive back to our hotel! I still have been watching my videos just amazed that not only it happened – but I was there.

It was truly a bucket list trip and it will be very hard to top!!

Tulsa Hanson Trip Recap 2015!

TULSA RECAP

I had originally intended for this to be a 2 part recap on the 20th and 27th, however I didn’t even have my photos uploaded until the 22nd so obviously I underestimated the amount of free time I’d have once getting home! (And I’m still not even unpacked…)

So here goes a bit of a shortened version of the weekend activities!

20150514_042140

THE WAY THERE

I hit a detour at 2am on the way to the airport that had no actual end so I had to turn around and go back. I made it to the airport with plenty of time but got held up at security because of a nail clipper attachment that is considered a “blade”.  I had no idea.  The TSA agent asked me where it was because the inside pocket in my purse was something she didn’t see. (It’s actually rather huge so I’m a bit concerned)  Fortunately I knew exactly where it was and once she had it I was on my merry way.

My flight to Chicago was fine, I slept for most of it. I had about a 3 hour layover in Chicago after they tried to bump me to a 30 minute layover.  Glad I switched things back because they left me in a wheelchair for about 20 minutes because the people who usually transport were “behind”. No doubt I’d have missed my connecting flight!

Chicago to Tulsa was not bad either. There were 2 Hanson fans in the seats in front of me so I basically just eavesdropped on them for the flight. Hey, they were talking loud enough for me to hear!

When I landed in Tulsa I met up with one of my fellow ST Leaders, Tara from Mississippi and she gave me a ride to the hotel and we went to get lunch with some other friends and ST Leaders. It was a nice calm before the storm.

CHECKING IN

We had heard a rumor that check in may start at 2 instead of 4, but in typical Hanson time fashion, that was not the case.  We decided to wait anyway and once the line started moving it was relatively quick to pick up our tickets.

DSC09159THE STORE

I found some other friends and we headed to the Hanson Store – where we waited in line for I’m not even sure how many hours. (Too many.)  I was so sunburned and hot by this point I said I couldn’t wait to get back to my hotel to take a 100 year shower!  I somehow ended up spending nearly $400 despite limiting myself to only 3 shirts (I actually only ended up buying 2!)  It was the accessories that did me in – AND I had friends pick me up MORE stuff when they waited in line and bought more stuff online too. I am out of control!

THURSDAY EVENING

I went to Ida Red’s party with one of the other ST Leaders, Katie and then we went out to dinner at The Brook.  It was nice to finally be face to face with her after chatting with her online for so long!

That night I was on my own in the hotel room and had to work the early shift helping to get everyone checked in Friday morning.  When I made it outside it was raining pretty hard and I was told to wait for the clouds to clear and head down there.  I ended up staying a bit longer than my shift just to help out – the tent kept flying away in the wind.

eab32efb0e79c7bbc8f6c27aff50ce1dPHOTOS WITH THE BAND

Once my friends made it to the front of the line for the photos I jumped in with them. I ended up next to Zac for the photo and he told us that them playing Disney this year was “positive” but that they weren’t really allowed to say.  (At this time last year we were already booked for Disney flight and all so I’m not sure why Disney is delaying things so much!)

LECTURES

After the photos it was time for lectures.  Surprisingly everything was running relatively on-time considering photos were only for 2 hours but had started late and I thought there would be no way they could get through us all in that time!

Taylor was up first and he did “Song Stories”.  Fans who were attending Hanson Day were asked to submit in 300 words or less their stories about Hanson songs and what they mean to them and Taylor would talk a bit about what happened when they wrote them, how they were inspired, etc.  5 fans were selected but were not told until that night that they were chosen. Songs they talked about were Never Let Go, Follow Your Lead, Waiting For This, MMMBop and With You In Your Dreams.  After the chats with the fans, Taylor brought out a keyboard and performed With You In Your Dreams.

Next up was Isaac, who did “Inside This Time Around” and broke down the tracks to the album (which is 15 years old this year) so that we could hear the different elements. He played some of Jonny Lang’s guitar solo isolated, remixed the songs into some rap and metal sounding songs and even explained how usually Zac sings the high harmony but if Isaac is singing lead then Zac sings the low harmony.  He played the isolated Zac track from “Lonely Again” which blew us all away. He also played an unreleased track “Bridges of Stone” which was nice to hear!

Zac finished out the night, where he wrote a song based on poll results from Hanson.net that he had posted. He was bummed that he had robot as a choice but it didn’t win – he loves robots and told us we all failed the relationship test he was giving us!  The song he wrote was “Searching For Signs of Life” about playing a video game (go figure) and the guy you are playing with seems to have gone idle. He did all the instruments and lyrics piece by piece and played them back for us and even had us sing some of the lines as well. He’s crazy and I can’t wait to hear the finished product that should be up on Hanson.net soon!

20150515_204545ST LEADERS DINNER

After the lectures was the Street Team Leaders dinner. There were 24 of us from around the world this year and it gives us a chance to mingle, share ideas, etc. The leaders are a great group and I was worried I’d be a bit of an outsider because they all bonded over a lot of manual labor last year that I couldn’t help out with but they were all very welcoming and willing to help me out J Hanson showed up for a bit to tell us about some of their plans (that were later shared at State of the Band)

THE GALLERY

Saturday morning we went to the gallery to see Zac’s paintings. By that point they were all already sold out (one of these years I’ll get one!) but they were so much nicer in person than in the gallery booklet they had for sale.  I was glad they did have the booklet this year though because at least I have some sort of keepsake if not an original!

Taylor also had some photography displayed and there was 1 photo I ended up buying. The first I had ever bought in the 4 or so years since they had been doing them!

CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE

This is one of my favorite spots and there’s nothing I love more than bringing new people there. I had hyped it up to the point that I think Jillian and Becca were a bit scared as to where I was bringing them – but I couldn’t give it away because the reaction to it has to be natural! I think they ended up having fun with it!

THE WALK

Then we took a walk  to Dwelling Spaces and some other shops which were about a mile from our hotel. With frequent breaks I was able to do it! And the stop for gelato half way through helped too 😉 I picked up a dream catcher at one of the indian stores because I tried to make myself one and failed miserable. So I got a cute little blue one, I just need to figure out where to hang it in my room now!

20150516_152700STATE OF THE BAND

State of the Band is when Hanson lets us know their plans for the upcoming year.  They talked about the website and the new logo associated with it – which I was NOT a fan of but once they explained what it meant I liked it a lot more.  When they had to approve photos and the like, they’d all draw a line and if all 3 of them liked the same photo those 3 lines would become an H which would later be circled. So Hanson.net is Isaac, Taylor and Zac approved.

They talked about their upcoming tour which I am so excited for.  It is 20 dates in 10 cities in October.  Details are coming in June but they did mention New York (and LA and Chicago which don’t really help me any) and that the first night would be a regular Hanson show but the second night would focus more on COVERS! Since I’m all about fun setlists and hearing songs live I haven’t heard before I think this show will help do that J  There will also be after parties.  I’m really excited for June and to get more details!

They did Q&A with the audience but had to stop people from asking what cities were on the tour.  While it is all planned already they don’t want to tell us until June! L

20150516_181439FAN CLUB DINNER

After the State of the Band we went to the fanclub dinner at Mexicali’s.  Not many were there at all – since most wanted to line up for the show. We had a nice time and met a fan from Trinidad!  Everything was going well until I stood up to head to the bathroom and my leg brace went POP! The screw popped out and we got some duct tape from the restaurant to put it back together again.  Of course on the walk down to the venue the other end of the screw ended up digging into my ankle, but we made it.  Unfortunately, the one time things were NOT on Hanson time so we didn’t get as great of a spot for the show as I would have liked, but it was certainly not the worst view I’ve ever had.

THE SHOW

The Members Only show is a celebration of the latest EP release – so they typically sing all 5 songs off of it. (Easy way to boost your numbers for rare songs heard live) however, they started off this set with just 3 of the 5. They did end up playing one more later in the set but never did play “Don’t Hide Your Tears” which has quickly become my favorite track off of the EP. Maybe it’ll end up in a setlist in Jamaica – or maybe even on tour?

In addition to the new EP songs, they did some songs from past Eps as well as a mix of album tracks as well.  Don’t be surprised there’s no MMMBop – it is hardly ever played at Members Only shows – probably because they assume we’ve all heard it many, many, many times before!

They each did solos – I could have done without Isaac’s and Zac’s (I’ve heard them many times) but Taylor’s was a beautiful rendition of Lost Without You and even if I have heard it before it was wonderful to experience again.  A couple also got engaged during this song in the crowd!

Roller Coaster Love is an EP song from a few years back – and apparently Taylor could not remember any of the words.  At one point Zac said “Guys, I’m going to be honest” and then magically Taylor seemed to remember the words? Not really sure what was going on there!

They ended the set with an acapella tease of the song “Sexy Robot” which is a bit of a parody that came along while they were streaming the song writing process for the new EP.  “Sexy Robot” as well as a song called “Guns and Bacon” came out of those nights and have ended up on merch.  One can only hope they end up recorded on Hanson.net one of these days! (Especially Sexy Robot – any song about robots, binary and javascript are ok with me!)

DSC09173THE AFTER PARTY

After the show we had to clear out so things could be set up for the after party. My friend Keena warned us that a storm would be coming through in about 10 minutes.  It was drizzling so we took cover under the highway overpass.  Keena was right and the skies opened up and it was pouring and lightning and there were talks of possible tornadoes in the area.

We finally get let back in, and we thought we had a break in the rain to make it inside but just as we hit the door the skies opened again.  That’s when the after party turned into a wet tshirt contest!

All the girls had gone to the stage (where nothing was set up at all for Taylor to DJ from) and then he ended up in the back at the sound board so they had to turn around and go to the back of the venue.  In the beginning of the afterparty Keena was texting me and telling me to go to the door to hear Tornado Sirens in person – but I decided that was not going to be happening and was glad that the music was too loud to hear them inside!

The after party was supposed to go until 1 am but ended up shutting down around 12:30.  Probably because Taylor’s computer seemed to no longer be working and we had heard Another One Bites The Dust 3 times.  Not in a row – but it was in the mix 3 times. And No Diggity sounded like it was about to be played for a 2nd time.

Taylor thanked us for coming and reminded us that The Hop Jam would be tomorrow.

We walked back to the hotel and watched the lightning out the window for a bit and the thunder was even shaking our room. The storm doors were also closed from earlier when the sirens were going off!

20150517_114215THE HOP JAM

When we woke up Sunday, the hop jam stage was right outside our hotel room window! We saw the guys walking down the street to get ready for soundcheck and were able to listen from the room. I was surprised they allowed some girls in the street during sound check – the guards last year were much more strict!

I listened to the first 2 bands from the room since my ankle had been bothering me (but Keena bought me some tape so I could get everything fixed up to last me until I got home) but after Jillian and Becca had gotten their photos taken with Zac – I decided it was time for me to head downstairs and check out merch and find Zac.

Little did I know just how easy it would be.  After being outside for all of 2 minutes I found Zac, we took a selife and that was that.  Isaac and Taylor were wandering around too but I wasn’t sure I could navigate in the beer area by myself so I didn’t bother.

I ended up finding a ledge by a restaurant to sit on for the show and stuck it out there for the rest of the evening.  All of the the bands I really enjoyed!

The beer area closed down just before Hanson took the stage so the crowd got a lot bigger, but since I was so far back I wasn’t in the middle of all the chaos of the crowd which was perfect – and I was actually outside unlike the year before!

They ended up cutting a few songs from this setlist as well (Jillian got it after the show from the stage so we were able to compare!) The one I was most bummed about being cut was Okie from Muskogee – just a song I’d never heard before! But they did ‘livin on Tulsa time’ with all the bands on stage as the encore.

Recap: This show was on my 20th birthday! I actually had a sign that said that and Taylor mouthed “Happy Birthday” to me in the middle of Where’s The Love.  Which then led him to messing it up and singing the same verse twice. I got a kick out of it when I got home to see a post on Hanson.net asking if anyone else had noticed that he messed up the lyrics.  Woops, I guess that was my fault? No cameras were allowed inside at this venue so I only have a few photos from afterwards when we met Frankie Muniz. He didn’t seem to believe it was my birthday lol

Where Are They Now:

Ingram Hill’s lead singer Justin seems to be solo and on tour
Ben is in a new group and I think I already went into him in depth on another Thursday. (I’ve seen him a lot)

Recap: For this show we parked ourselves outside Hanson’s bus for quite some time. I don’t think we ended up heading to the area where you could see the concert until part way through Evan and Jaron’s set.  This was a dream lineup for me as I love Hanson, obviously, but Joe Mac is my favorite New Kid (and this was before their reunion when they were still saying they had no desire to tour together as NKTOB) and Evan and Jaron I had wanted to see while I was in high school but it was a school night so that was a no-go.  Frankie Muniz of Malcolm in the Middle was on tour with Hanson for this tour.  I also remember Zac’s girlfriend at the time (now wife) burned a container of popcorn and ended up bringing it outside and putting it under the bus tire. (There’s a photo of that but I didn’t bother scanning that negative in)  This was a short set and a free radio concert.

Where Are They Now:

Hanson we all know about. (If you don’t then just read some of my past blog entries and you’ll figure it out)
Joe Mac is back with NKOTB and was on The McCarthy’s on CBS but they seemed to put it on indefinite hiatus because they’re idiots as it was one of the best family shows on television, if I do say so myself.
Evan and Jaron don’t perform together anymore – Evan actually started the website “StageIt” which I totally love so you can watch concerts of your faves from the comfort of your own home while they are in the comfort of their own home… Jaron did some solo stuff in the past 5 or so years, I’m not sure if he’s still at it or not.
Skye Sweetnamis apparently now in the band Sumo Cyco and is a metal band – which probably explains why I haven’t heard anything about her lately.

Recap:

Scanning these pics really took me back.  I miss being able to decide to go to a concert 8 hours away in Buffalo on a Wednesdays. ahh, summer break. This show I went with my friend Jess and met up with another friend Victoria who lived in the area.  The tickets were free, you just had to play some games on the local radio station’s website and trade in for them.  I think we ended up with 4 free tickets and gave one to our waitress in addition to her tip because we were telling her about the show and thought she might be interested.  Despite this being a radio station sponsored show, it was almost a full set. I remember being extra excited when Zac did “The Walk” which at that time we might have still been calling “Tightrope” and almost flipped around the rail that I was holding on to because I got so excited lol oops.  Zac also made up a song called “bling bling bling” at some point during this set.

Recap: It was FREEZING at this show. I had on my huge winter coat. I also remember we were sitting in line near the bus and my friend took a ride to Dunkin Donuts to get us some hot chocolate because it was so cold. When she returned, somehow I had been barricade in with the bus instead of out like some sort of caged animal.  I also met up with a TON of online friends at this show! I didn’t bring my camera so I don’t have any photos but someone got this shot of (most?) of us – I’m on the left – also pictured Beckie, Nicole, Erin, Leah, Mary, Becky, Doreen, Kristal, Alex, Erika, Michelle and Jess.
