Virtual Race: I’ll Be Right Here 5k

Race Title: I’ll Be Right Here 5k
Distance: 5k
Company: Moon Joggers
Charity: National Psoriasis Foundation

ET5k

This 5k was pretty easy for me – since I was at the casino for a weekend and did almost the entire 3.1 miles in one evening. This medal is pretty cool, kind of like stained glass. I picked this race out early on but it didn’t start until August and I had the concert weekend in mind to get it completed and I did it 🙂

Virtual Race: OneHRC Marathon

Race Title: OneHRC Marathon
Distance: 42k
Company:  Hogwarts Running Club
Charity: Big Cat Rescue, International Bird Rescue, Friends of Scales, Save Me Trust

This was a tough one for me – 42k and $50 but the medal is amazing and I’m going for that perfect prefect status! I just did 1k at a time here and crossed them off my list as I finished them.  I really enjoy the 5ks more than the longer races, but can see why those who run like the longer distances.  Im glad the next HRC race is another 5k.

Charity: NA

I had remembered seeing a teaser that a company was going to do a Ninja Turtle themed run. Since I pick all my races based on the medals, I knew I had to do this one!  Turns out, I’m not sure this was the company that teased it since another TMNT race also popped up (that I had to pass on as I’m trying to limit spending) but either way I’m happy with this medal!

Virtual Race: Run Disney Shorts

Race Title: RunDisney Shorts – Yellow Shoes, Red Pants, White Glove
Distance: 5k, 5k, 5k
Company: runDisney
Charity:  Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

20160803_181641

This is the first time that RunDisney did a virtual race. Usually they do races at their parks.  Due to their restrictions, I’m not sure I’d ever be able to do a race at the park, so this was great since I was feeling left out.  These races were a bit more expensive than your average virtual race, but isn’t everything Disney?  If you bought all 3 together you got a bonus 4th medal and a tumbler.  There was a bit of controversy over the charity as well as Disney would only be making a gift to the charity and not giving a certain % of the registration fees to the charity. Runners could also donate more if they wished at sign up. The medals took FOREVER to show up – the races were supposed to be done in May-June and I just got my medals last week. They are GIGANTIC though!

Virtual Race: Sting Like A Bee

Race Title: Sting Like A Bee 5K
Distance: 5k
Company: Virtual Run Events
Charity:   Muhammad Ali Parkinson CenterIMG_20160803_191444

My grandfather was a HUGE fan of Ali and he used to have a pair of tiny leather boxing gloves hanging on the lamp in his house. (My mom now has them hanging in her room) so when I saw this race and the medal reminded me so much of the gloves my grandfather had, I knew I needed to sign up.  I did a few of my walks at my cousins wedding to and from the ceremony location and my mom said that made it like a part of my grandfather was there.

Virtual Race: Turtle Bay Bolt

20160711_195153

Race Title: Turtle Bay Bolt
Distance: 24.1 Miles
Company: Yes.Fit
Charity: Max Love Project

The Turtle Bay Bolt race was a very popular one on Yes.Fit (formerly Make Yes Happen) as it was limited and closed down after the first wave of medals ran out.  They got in a second (and last) shipment and so I scooped in and signed up for the race even though I was in the middle of others. I had them set my race to start June 1 for me (which you can now do on your own since the site revamped) and it took me just over a month to finish it.  This is one of the prettiest medals I have, it’s kind of like a suncatcher and the pics really don’t do it justice! I hope they do other similarly styled medals in the future. This race had views through Hawaii.

Virtual Race: Half Blood Prince Marathon

20160612_194926

Race Title: The Half-Blood Prince Half Marathon
Distance: 13.1 miles
Company: Hogwarts Running Club
Charity: Project Purple

This is the first of the Hogwarts Running Club races I did.  They do about 6 a year.  I am in the middle of their current race (more on that to come – if ever finish it) and they do a Time Turner event each fall where you can catch up on any races you may have missed.  They also have a challenge medal and the opportunity to become a perfect prefect which is what I am going to go for – provided I ever finish the current race 😉

Virtual Race: You’ve Got A Friend In Me

20160612_194931

Race Title: You’ve Got A Friend In Me
Distance: 1 mile
Company: VirtualRunnerUK
Charity: MAMA Academy

This race was a challenge because you had to choose your distance (1mi, 5k, 10k, etc) and do it all IN ONE GO.  Most of the other virtual races are fine if you break it up over several outings.  I had never purposely walked a mile all at once before which is why I decided to go for this race.  It was supposed to be done in June, but I did mine over Memorial Day Weekend.  I ended up doing another mile in one go since then as well.  I have a ways to go, but I’m hoping to eventually be able to do 5k in one go.

Virtual Race: Andrea Barber 4.0 Mile Birthday Run

20160628_193233Race Title: Andrea Barber’s 4.0 Mile Birthday Run
Distance: 4.0 Miles
Company: Andrea Barber
Charity: Girls On The Run

This was a limited edition race that Andrea Barber (Kimmy Gibbler from Full House) put on in order to raise money for her 40th birthday for Girls On The Run.  The race had to be 4.0 miles and you could run, walk or Gibbler gallop!  Included in the registration package was a t-shirt, the medal and a signed photo from Andrea as well!

Virtual Race: Bad Hair Day 5k

20160612_194851

Race Title: Bad Hair Day 5k
Distance: 5k
Company: Virtual Pace Series
Charity: Wigs For Kids

I saw the Virtual Pace Series Bad Hair Day 5k medal and just knew i had to go for it! When I first got into the virtual races I signed up for a TON based on the medals. It ended up with a crazy back log of races I had to complete in June and not wanting to really double dip too much (All my 5ks I try to do with extra walks around the neighbor hood so they count to my Make Yes Happen too but that’s it) I decided to bike this 5k since it was allowed – which I was able to do in about 30 minutes.  Plus, they sent the medal before the designated race start time so it was sitting in its envelope just begging for me to look at it! (I am trying to not open the medals that come early until the mileage is completed as extra incentive)
