Backstreet Boys The Axis Las Vegas

A couple weeks ago I made the trip out to Las Vegas to check out the Backstreet Boys residency. (Which has since been extended for a few more months throughout 2018 if you’re interested)  We opted to also stay at Planet Hollywood which was really nice – easy to take a nap and then get ready before the show and then just head downstairs to the venue.  A nap was definitely needed as the show started at midnight EST.

While BSB aren’t my favorite and they didn’t play my favorite song (I wasn’t really expecting them to) the show was pretty much all up beat hit after hit and was a TON of fun!! Our seats turned out to be really great as well – minus the amazon husband who of course was right in front of us.  But the boys made great use of the catwalk and AJ even came down the aisle of our section during the show!

For Shape of My Heart they usually bring a fan up on stage – this night was a special one because Brian’s family was in the audience and they ended up bringing his Mom up on stage for the song which was really special 🙂

Throughout the show they played a lot of old videos of the guys from when they were little and as well as touring as the Backstreet Boys which was a lot of fun to watch. We also ended the night getting a $10 glass of water/soda in a BSB branded cup.

A lot of the merch sizes were sold out because it was supposed to be the tail end of the residency – but it had just gotten the extension announcement a couple of days before. The shirt I bought was completely gone from the merch store the next day! It’s cool and has a BSB poker chip on the front – appropriate for a trip to Vegas AND since I developed a poker chip magnet obsession while shopping for souvenirs.

Book Review: Capital Gaines

You can’t seem to go anywhere anymore without seeing something related to Chip and Joanna Gaines.  I’ve watched their show Fixer Upper (quite) a few times and found Chip to be pretty funny, so I needed to give his book a read. He starts out by saying how he struggled with reading and writing so I am not sure how much of this he actually wrote – but the stories are certainly his because I am not sure anyone else would do some of the crazy things he does.

This book is also helpful to anyone who might want to be starting their own business – you can learn a lot from Chip’s mistakes and hopefully not have to make them yourself as well.

There’s some behind the scenes details too about his life with Jo, from when she was just his girlfriend and becoming his wife and mother to his children.

I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.

About the Book

The funny and talented Chip Gaines is well known to millions of people as a TV star, renovation expert, bestselling author, husband to Joanna, and father of four in Waco, Texas. But long before the world took notice, Chip was a serial entrepreneur who was always ready for the next challenge, even if it didn’t quite work out as planned. Whether it was buying a neighborhood laundromat or talking a bank into a loan for some equipment to start a lawn-mowing service, Chip always knew that the most important thing was to take that first step.

Now a #1 New York Times bestselling book, Capital Gaines offers readers a ringside seat as Chip relives some of his craziest antics and the lessons learned along the way. His mentors taught him to never give up and his family showed him what it meant to always have a positive attitude despite your circumstances. Throw in a natural daredevil personality and a willingness to do (or eat!) just about anything, and you have the life and daily activity of Chip Gaines.

Capital Gaines is the perfect book for anyone looking to succeed not only in business but more importantly in life.

Book Review: I Will Find You

My Mom has recently gotten me hooked on “Homicide Hunter” with Joe Kenda so when I saw he read a book I had to check it out. Of course my Mom says she will already know everything in the book because she has seen all the episodes, but as a more casual watcher I really liked to get the background on Joe and his family life and how trouble just seems to find him no matter where he goes.  I found the book to be very interesting and really enjoyed learning more about Joe and finding out how some of these crime scenes and murders he solved has affected his life.

I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.

Don’t mind the blood.

Walk the Moon Mohegan Sun Arena

Walk The Moon put on an absolutely amazing show at Mohegan Sun as part of their Press Restart Tour.  The lighting was a bit off – maybe because we were the only arena on the tour and everything was set up for smaller theaters? But that didn’t matter as my inability to see the stage made me end up watching the crowd down below more than the band itself and there was one guy about 10 rows back who seemed to be having a religious experience at the show and watching his joy for the show made things that much more exciting and fun to watch for me! (I was really only familiar with a few of the songs that Walk the Moon plays as I had intended to dive into their catalog before the show but didn’t end up having time. Still haven’t had time.. but maybe someday.)

The opening act could be the worst of 2018 (regardless of the fact that it was basically the only opening act I had seen all year) the sound was bad, the lighting was better for them but made everyone in the band look green… and yeah.

Book Review: Bad Choices Make Good Stories

Bad Choices Make Good Stories is told by a German hacker named Oliver and growing up and breaking all sorts of laws and then meeting a girl in New York and ending up moving there to be with her.

The book is supposed to be based on true events, but it really seems that a lot of the stories are embellished to create more dramatic and better stories.  I don’t see how one person could truly get in that much trouble and sticky situations!

After getting past the point where I decided the book was a bit fabricated, it was still somewhat interesting, although I don’t think I will be reading any further books (I believe there is at least a second one)

I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.

About the Book

Bad Choices Make Good Stories is a darkly funny coming-of-age novel based on true events. Oliver, a teenage hacker living in Germany, meets Donna online. She’s an American girl living in New York. After chatting and talking on the phone for months, he finally decides to surprise her with a visit. But he soon finds out that things are not what they appeared to be, and that this visit will change his life forever.

Book Review: Sweet Dreams Supergirl

This book is absolutely adorable and shows super girl in parallel with a little super hero fan. The book goes through when it’s time to sleep, that you should be brave each day and courageous at night. Tomorrow a hero will be needed to soar. It is a really nice story to tell little girls that they need to sleep so that the next day they can kick ass.  Share Stories. Say Goodnight. Snuggle Up. Breathe Easy. Stay Brave. Dream Big.

I really loved this book and am looking forward to sharing it with some little girls who need to know that they can be a super hero soon.
