Scrapbook Post – Tulsa

Finally got around to scrapbooking the pilgrimage to Tulsa for Hanson Day.  It seemed really overwhelming but now that I am swimming in photos from my trip to Orlando to see them and still working out what photos I’ll print up from the Jamaica trip – this set is seeming like it was easy peasy.  Not really looking forward to scrapping those other trips but it’ll be happening eventually. (It doesn’t help that I am just behind on all things scrap at the moment!)

Scrapbook Post – July, August, September

Some various scrapbook pages from the summer and heading into fall.  (And bamboozle from May – I cant remember if I posted it or not – but it finally has the wristband attached to it so it is DONE!)  featuring Kris Allen a couple times, Big Time Rush, Carrie Underwood, Honor Society…

Sorry once again – lighting is bad.  I’m still hoping someone invents a 12×12 scanner soon..

Scrapbooking Concerts

Mainly what I scrapbook are concerts.  It is sometimes hard to make your pages unique, which you have probably seen from some of my scrapbook posts! (Especially after 67 Hanson shows. How do you scrap something that has been scrapped so many times before?) Sometimes I get the urge to be creative, other times I just want to get the scrapping out of the way and rush a bit.

My first tip would be to either think of a layout yourself, find inspiration somewhere or look at someone else’s design and “scrap lift” it.  I subscribe to a couple of scrapbooking magazines and while a lot of times the layouts pictured are of someone’s kids, if you look at it with an open mind you can sometimes see something that will work for boys playing on stage instead of in that leaf pile in the backyard.  Inspiration can come from weird places and sometimes at the shows as I am taking photos I get ideas for layouts.  Then I just have to hope I remember them after the show!

One of my favorite websites to search is twopeasinabucket.com.  They have an extensive gallery that you can search.  Sometimes I’ll search specific things – did anyone else scrap the Jonas Brothers? And other times I will just browse to see if a layout strikes me as something that I can re-create that will work with some of the photos I have.

I also try to set guidelines.  In 2011 it was to try and only use 1 page per concert, 2 if a meet and greet was involved (that would land me with a photo with the band and/or an autograph to scrap as well).  This may lead to you being creative when you have 8 or 9 great photos you want to use, but want to stick to the 1 page limit.  Don’t be afraid to get wallet sized prints and incorporate them into the layout as a border or something similar! (Tip: Edit the images yourself in photoshop. Turn 1 4×6 photo into a photo with 4 photos in it – 9 cents to print instead of whatever the price for a wallet print is that will end up giving you 4 of the same photo)

Other staples for my concert pages are the setlist (which I always keep track of, but sometimes a google search or even a look on wikipedia will get you the setlist, especially for arena shows where the setlist never really changes) and of course the ticket.  For shows without tickets I either make a mock ticket from a raffle ticket embellishment or something similar, or I am just sure to write in the date and name of the artist.  I usually write in the opening acts as well, though I don’t always include their photos in the layouts.

One thing I should probably add more of to my layouts but don’t, is JOURNALING.  If you don’t like your handwriting, you can type it on the computer and choose a fancy font and print it on fancy paper.  If you like your handwriting but aren’t sure about writing directly on the page, you can get a font made of your handwriting and type and print it!  Yes, I have sometimes had to re-do whole layouts because I stupidly spelled something wrong or left out a letter and couldn’t squeeze it in.

Another great way to get some inspiration for colors to use is the Scrap By Color! website. (http://www.scrapbook.com/color/)  You upload a photo that you want to use for your layout and it helps you find colors that coordinate with the photo.  If you don’t have a photo, there is also a color wheel that you can use to see which colors go best together.

Obviously by looking at some of my layouts this is all easier said than done.  I do have some pages  I put a LOT of times in to and others I just kind of throw everything together. It all depends on how much time I have an how overwhelmed I am with what I have still to scrap.

Scrapbook Post 2012 II

I must apologize for these photographs. The lighting was not ideal! It seems that whenever I have the time to take photos it is overcast so I can’t use natural light. Still hoping that a 12×12 scanner gets invented soon to make my life a bit easier ;)

Admittedly these are not my best work either. The song lyric inspiration I tried to stick with earlier in the year has gone out the window as the majority of these were “thrown together” Whenever I intend to take time to make them look good I get overwhelemd and toss a bunch of things together to make my to do list less. You can probably tell most of these fit in that category.

I have big plans and big ideas for some of my upcoming layouts, so we’ll see what happens…

Under the cut we’ve got some boybands.. some Hanson, Honor Society, Maroon 5…

Craft Corner: Beach Ball

Every now and then inspiration hits while I am at a concert for what I will do with that scrapbook layout.  For some reason, when I got back from Bamboozle I knew that I had to make the layout a beach ball.

The pictures were kept aside for quite some time while I figured out how to make a beachball.  I got out my Martha Stewart circle cutter and was oh so careful adjusting it so that I wouldn’t slice my finger open like I had done the last time I used it.  No such luck, cut my finger open again.  (The blades are WAY to sharp and it is not easy to change the size of the circle or remove the blade before adjusting. Really poor design.)

Then I cut 5 circles (after I put on a bandaid – of course!) and had my brother free hand on one of them 5 parts because I couldn’t figure out how to do it, and I used that as a template to cut each of the pieces from each color.  The circle in the middle was cut from a circle punch – much less dangerous – but it is not quite the size I wanted for proportion. But, I didn’t cut another finger in the process so that was a plus.

You’ll have to wait a couple days to see the finished product (I hope to have a 2nd 2012 scrapbook post up then!) although technically it is still not quite finished because the “ticket” was a cloth wristband and I still haven’t been able to remove the plastic connector to make it flat enough to attach and fit in a book. Someday!

This was a fun project but I wouldn’t recommend using the Martha Stewart cutter unless you have adult supervision ;)  (One of these days I’ll figure out how to use it properly – I was so excited when I saw it on Oprah I ran out and got it the next day – but have only used it a couple of times because I keep slicing fingers!)

Scrapbook Post 2012 I

The first scrapbook post of the year! If you remember I gave myself a challenge to use song lyrics to theme my pages and include them on the page or work it into the layout somehow. I have to say, I was doing AWESOME with this in the beginning and now that it is June I am really kind of “ehhh” about it. I did race to work on a few layouts over the weekend (not done yet so not pictured) and realized I was really straying from this. I am going to try and re-focus over the next few weekends and see what I can come up with. (My room being a mess and lack of access to my Silhouette is surely part of the reason I am slacking so much but it may take me an entire weekend to get the table it is on sorted!)

Under the cut we have a Mets layout from 2011 (I slack on the Mets layouts the most because I think that it will be more fun to scrap in the off season! And then I don’t want to think about them in the off season lol) Kelly Clarkson, Tim Urban, Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers, Matt Nathanson, Concert For Kids, John Mayer (the concert that wasn’t), Hanson, Andy Grammer, Action Item, Javier Colon…

And now that I’m looking at the SK6ers layout I am REALLY not digging it either so it might need some reworking as well.  Most of these layouts were done with the Tombow Adhesive that I reviewed a while back.  See how nothing is curling up or popping off the page? Just how I like it!

Scrapbook Lyric Challenge!

I was looking through some of my old scrapbooks and realized that a lot of the pages look just thrown together, where as the ones where I take time and make them unique still look really cool.  So for 2012 I decided to go back to that and not make pages just to get my list of things to scrap down, but do it because I had the inspiration to make a great page. (So be prepared for scrapbook posts to be a bit fewer and less often in 2012)

I also decided to take things a step farther and give myself a challenge – a lyric challenge.  Sometimes at shows there is just a song or a line in a song that stands out to you.  Maybe it speaks to you in that moment or maybe you end up singing it for days and days and days after the show.  Either way – I’ve decided to take 1 line / verse / etc from a song performed at the show and somehow incorporate that into all of my scrapbook pages in 2012.  For now I am trying to stick with original songs by the artist – but we’ll see what happens because a cover performance may strike me as well.

I’ll try to note the lyrics in my scrapbook posts (if i remember) so keep a look out for them in 2012 scrapbook posts! And we’ll see how long I keep it up for!  So far I have 2 pages almost done for 2012 and both incorporate a lyrics into their layout and have the lyric on the page. I have 9 more concerts to scrap and I’ve picked out the lyrics, now to just get the inspiration for the pages!
