Taylor Hanson – Soho House

Wednesday night I had the pleasure of being a guest at Taylor Hanson’s house session performance at SoHo House. SoHo House does these sort of concerts periodically for their members to bring big stars you wouldn’t normally see in an intimate setting to a living room type setting.
The host introduced Taylor with a list of his achievements – adding the newest – dancer. “I don’t know who is he talking about, be he sounds awesome!” Taylor said upon sitting down at the piano. He also noted the piano was out of tune, “my rider for tonight was piano and mic, I didn’t say anything about a tuning.”
He had no setlist and wasn’t sure what he would be playing – noting that MMMBop was not something he was initially thinking about playing but did a rendition of it with only the piano. He also reminisced about how the music video for Weird was filmed in Times Square and they managed to shut down the subway for it – saying he wasn’t sure how that happened and then commenting… big label money. This Time Around was a request call out from the crowd. He also mentioned he had considered playing some new new songs but wanted to play things that he was more familiar with. It was a short 7 song set but the room seemed very receptive of him!
