driving miss daisy

Thursday night I headed to the Berkshires in MA to see Debra Jo Rupp in Driving Miss Daisy. I actually didn’t realize it was a play and only knew of the movie with Jessica Tandy as I had met her right around when the movie came out.

I was front row for the performance because it was the only row that didn’t require any stairs. There were 3 small sets, Daisy’s living room, the car and Boolie’s office.

The play chronicled about 20 years in a 90 minute period with no intermission. Debra Jo Rupp was fantastic as was Ray Anthony Thomas who played Hoke. (He has had some TV roles in addition to Broadway but I did not recognize him from any of them.)

The tickets have been selling so well they extended the performances at another theater to accommodate the demand.

I read the play this morning and they did it essentially word for word. Next up I’ll have to refresh my memory of the movie with Jessica Tandy.
