Recap:  My Mom went to the show with me because none of my friends were able to.  She ended up loving Brett Dennen who was the first opener because he didn’t wear shoes on stage.  Ben Folds also opened and the only photo I took of him was the crazy one below where he looks like he might actually be part butterfly.  This was a funny show, with John joking with one of his guitarists about how sometimes he throws picks at people and they don’t know where they landed, but they ended up sticking to their foreheads because they are sweaty. (See photo below of demonstration)

Recap: This show was not originally planned, but when another friend expressed interest in going, it became “Hey Katie will probably go with you” and so I did!  Since it was last minute we didn’t make any ADA plans but the person letting us in at the door grabbed me and escorted me to the section. My 2 friends I was with wanted to dance and were told they were not allowed to stand in the ADA area so they went off to another area and just came back to check on me here and there.  I didn’t bring my camera in at all for this one and I think at the time I may have had 1 awful cell phone photo that is now long gone! The Avalon has since become the House of Blues Boston.

Recap:

I think this is the first vacation day I ever used from work for a concert.  (Of course now, almost all of them are used for that!)  I had been asking my coworkers how to get to Boston and they had told me… and I ended up calling them asking if we saw the Statue of Liberty if we were going the right way or not.  I was of course totally joking but to this day they still swear I was not and got majorly lost.  (I suck with directions but not THAT much)

This was an instore performance and signing for the release of Glassjaw Boxer.

Recap:

David Wright of the New York Mets put this benefit concert together to help raise money for Virginia Tech after the shooting there since his brother was a student at the school.  Pat McGee – who had opened for Hanson but somehow never at any of the shows that I went to headlined. I dragged my brother along.  They had raffles and I won tickets to Jon Stewart!

Recap:

This concert was an amazing one.  We hadn’t really known who Matt Wertz was before this tour (though we saw / met him earlier in the day) and we certainly didn’t know who Jon McLaughlin was before this tour either – but immediately fell in love. (It helped we were front row and he was practically on top of us for his set lol)  It’s crazy how young everyone looks in these photos!  But if there were ever another tour consisting of Matt Wertz / Jon McLaughlin / Stephen Kellogg I would be there with bells on!

Recap:

Matt Wertz was going to be opening up for SK6ers that evening, but was doing an instore performance at Borders Books in Boston so we headed to the city early to check it out.  I had heard a bit of Matt in Jen’s car because she had been playing him since she found out that he’d be opening.  I bought his CD and got a photo with him and have now seen him a handful more times since!

Your Illusion

Recap:

This show was part of a small preview tour promoting their album “The Walk” before it was released. This was also one of the few shows they had performed “Tearing It Down” at live, that is until it was brought out of the vault on the Roots and Rock N Roll tour this past fall. These are probably some of the most The Walk heavy setlists they have ever done, since as of late they do very few songs from this album live.  I remember being very excited that they did Feeling Alright during this show.

And it must be noted that the opener wins for worst Hanson opener – EVER.  The Cringe lived up to their name.  This is also Rachael Ray’s husband’s band.  I think they were originally supposed to be playing in a smaller room at the venue but for whatever reason ended up getting added as Hanson’s opener instead.

Recap:

Before this show Hanson did a Members Only Event with a couple of songs performed and a Q&A. We also got to stay inside after that to get a prime spot for the show.  We opted to go to the side of the stage and I remember being really annoyed that their backup musician was in the way a lot! These were preview shows before the Walk was actually released, if I am remembering correctly – although it may have been in out in Japan already because before the show my friend and I had decided that we knew they’d start with Great Divide.

Recap:

In addition to this concert, we also got to see some of John’s soundcheck because of his fanclub. We had 5th row seats for the show and if I am remembering right, my camera broke just before this show so in order to take pictures you had to actually look through the view finder, the screen on the back was busted.  Good thing cameras then had both – now my camera doesn’t even have the view finder, just a screen!  This was probably on of my favorite John shows – he did almost all of my favorite songs in this set!

Downside – on the way home, just around the corner from my house, my car slipped on some ice and hit the guard rail.  A cop happened to drive by right after who actually went to UMASS Amherst where the concert was and a nice guy helped me get my car unstuck from the snow bank.  Unfortunately, the front headlight did have some damage from the guard rail but otherwise everything was ok!

Recap:

After Jen’s car had the accident the night before, I drove to this venue.  I remember we got lost somewhere in Norfolk, CT and it was very dark.  I have very minimal recollection of the rest of this venue, I can’t even tell you what it looked like. I don’t think I have any photos from it either. It’s very weird how I can remember such vivid details from some shows and nothing from others!
