Idol Top 7 (Take Two)

Wednesday’s nights theme was “Then and Now”, I was not impressed to see many duplicate artists (GaGa, Alicia Keys, Marvin Gaye) and an Adele on the list posted to the American Idol facebook, but hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised and not annoyed that the same damn songs keep getting done over and over and over…

First was time for NOW –

Hollie – Rolling in the Deep – Obviously you know my feelings on the song choice – but I think she did a really great job with the song. (My mom says it was her best ever )

Colton – Bad Romance – How appropriate my least favorite singing my least favorite! Sometimes… he looks like a fish when he sings. Didn’t really like the performance but you all knew that was coming.

Elise – No One – I really liked this performance from her. It just seemed to come so easy to her in this performance and I wish she could do this more consistently!

Phillip – U Got It Bad – I wasn’t sure how I was going to like this version, but I think it was awesome!

Jessica – Fallin – Jessica is good, but last week my friend told me that she thought she was a robot. And I can definitely see that.

Skylar – Born This Way – Hate Gaga. Love Skylar.  And was that Sons of Sylvia backing her? (Obviously I spent far too much time trying to figure this out than paying attention to the performance)

Joshua – I Believe  – Did you really have any doubt that Mantasia wouldn’t rock the Fantasia? He is so good.

Then it was time for THEN –

(But I had to take the Jeopardy Teen Test ‘just for fun’)

Hollie – Son of a Preacher Man – I think Hollie is BACK! Another great performance from her (from what I could hear while answering questions)

Colton – September – Didn’t like it at all. I don’t like how he re-worked it.

Elise – Let’s Get It On – Not a horrible performance, but I definitely preferred her earlier performance. (Is it just me or did the judges talk to her FOR-EV-ER?)

Phillip – In The Midnight Hour – Good performance. He seems so awkward without his guitar though. I guess that comfort will come in time.

Jessica – Try a Little Tenderness – I feel like there is something missing in all her performances. Personality? I don’t know. She has the voice but she just… doesn’t get me invested into her songs.

Skylar – Heard It Through The Grapevine – Oh crap the fiddle player is back. He has to be one of the guys from Sons of Sylvia.  Another stellar performance from Skylar. I’m hoping we have a female winner this year and that it is her!

Joshua –  A Change Is Gonna Come –  Skylar / Joshua final 2? Yes please!  I can’t get over how great Joshua is and the fact that he was in the bottom last week kills me! Maybe I need to pick up my game w/ voting

Bottom 3: I have NO clue.

Going home: Gosh. Colton or Jessica?  That would be good with me!

YAY Kris Allen was back on Thursday w/ his new single Vision of Love. Can’t wait for his album to come out (I  have 3 copies pre-ordered)

And that elimination got a standing ovation, round of applause and cheers from our living room…

The Voice Quarter Finals

Monday night Team Blake vs Team Christina competed in the first round of the Quarter Finals.  And there was a twist – someone would be eliminated before the voting lines open!

RaeLynn – She’s Country – Not impressed with her performance at all.  Not sure why everyone seemed to think it was her best performance yet. It was mediocre and I don’t even know how she has made it this far.

Jesse – Halo – I wasn’t impressed by the song when he first started it, but he definitely came in to his own about half way through and did a great job. Although he may need to work on his breathing when singing. He seemed to be really winded near the end.

Jordis – A Little Bit Stronger – I thought this was a good performance, though I wasn’t familiar with the song.

Ashley – Foolish Games – Great performance.  I really like her.

Erin – Set Fire To The Rain – I love Erin… but seriously, enough with the Adele singing competitions!

Lindsay – Part of Me –  I liked Lindsay but I didn’t really like her take on that song.

Jermaine – love him! great performance.

Chris – I think it was a little bit too theatrical for me and while it wasnt bad, I know he is capable of more and I think he tried to stay safe.

Then it was time for the live elimination! I thought that although RaeLyn should be eliminated by Blake, it would be Jordis.  I had a tougher pick with team Christina and chose Lindsay. Christina eliminated Jesse and Blake eliminated Jordis.  (Man, this is HARD!)

For who is going through tomorrow night Erin and RaeLynn and Lindsay and Chris.

Tuesday it was time for the results, some Justin Bieber and The Wanted!

Team Christina went first and we found out that America saved Chris!  And from Team Blake it was Jermaine (not one that I picked – but I am very happy with that choice America!)

Based on Team Christina’s performances of Ashley and Lindsay, I have to go with Ashley as the pick even though I had Lindsay as my pick based on last night.  Too bad I changed my mind because Christina stuck with Lindsay, my original pick. (Which is odd because at one point I thought Christina would be sending her home last night. I am obviously not consistent at all with my picks!)

Based on Team Blake’s performances of Erin and RaeLynn, I obviously have to go with Erin.  While I had picked RaeLynn to go through – it certainly had nothing to do with me liking her – I thought America was going to be responsible for that disaster.  However, Blake has finally wised up and saved Erin! Bye, Bye RaeLynn.

Idol – Top 7

Wednesday the Top 7 performed. The theme was songs from 2010 to NOW with guest mentor AKON. I thought it was interesting how Jimmy told Colton he thought it would come down to Colton/Phillip – but then was going on to Jessica about how she’s got it too. They just better watch out for Joshua!

Skylar – Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You – It was a good performance, but not great. With her having been in the bottom 3 lately, I’m not sure this will keep her out of it this week.

Colton – Love The Way You Lie – Still not a fan of his. Also not a fan of slower songs. So.. yeah.

Elise & Phillip – Somebody That I Used To Know – Totally loving this song, but after it was done on Glee Tuesday and Idol wednesday it might be creeping into over done status.  But I did enjoy this duet from Elise and Phillip.

Jessica – Stuttering – Not familiar with this song at all, but I think Jessica did a great job with it.

Joshua – Runaway Baby – Awesome to hear him do something more up beat. Great, great, great performance. Love him.

Colton & Skylar – Dont You Wanna Stay – I really wasn’t into this pairing this week. They should have shook the pairs up a bit more.

Hollie – Perfect – I really like her hair this week! I thought it was a good performance but I’m not sure it was enough. She is good, but my mom turned to me and said “She’s not growing” during the performance.

Phillip – Give a Little More – He’s still a little bit too Dave Matthews.. but it was a solid performance.

Hollie, Jessica, Joshua – Stronger – This trio was kind of a trainwreck at points. Their voices didn’t mesh well together at all. (My mom on the other hand yelled out that it was awesome when they were done. Hmm)

Elise – You and I – Remember that time Haley sang this before anyone even knew what it was? That was a good time.  Elise did good, but I think she’ll be in the bottom 3.

My picks for Bottom 3: Hollie, Skylar, Elise

Going Home: Hollie

Wondering if Thursday’s bottom 3 as orchestrated by the producers with 2 that weren’t really in the bottom… really shocked to see Jessica and Joshua in the bottom!  And I’m back to stinking with my Bottom 3 picks!  Or maybe they just really wanted the judges save to be used because it just seemed ridiculous how that all went down…

The Voice Live Rounds – Part 2

Monday night it was Team Adam vs Team CeeLo!

Katrina – Tonight Tonight – I thought this was a great performance from her, but wasn’t into the arrangement of the song.

Cheesa – Don’t Leave Me This Way – Wasn’t a fan of her during the battle rounds and I’m still not sure I’m into her.  Will have to wait until I see everyone to decide if that will make her through or not though.

Tony L- In Your Eyes – Love! I liked the breakdown at the end too with less of the instruments. Not sure why Christina needed to be such a bitch though!

Kim – Rollin In The Deep – I’m really so sick of Adele being covered I can not even begin to explain it. But Kim is a power house.

James – Don’t Know Why – I really like James. But I’m was not really digging this performance. His higher notes weren’t perfect… But he’s so adorable I kind of hope he’ll make it through. (I know, I know, it’s The Voice. But its ultimately a popularity contest)

Juliet  – Roxanne – She is one of the better voices in this competition.

Mathai – Ordinary People – I really like Mathai.  I thought this was a great performance. She has a really unique voice and a great tone.

Tony V – Everybody Wants To Rule The World – Tony is fantastic. Love, love, loved his performance. I don’t even have enough good things to say about it.

Karla – Airplanes – I could either take or leave this performance.

Erin- Walk Like An Egyptian – Not into her. At. All.

Pip – When You Were Young – Another one of my favorites! Good performance.

Jamar – Are You Gonna Go My Way – Awesome! Wow.

My predictions for going through to the next round:

Team Adam
Tony L
Kim
Mathai
Pip

Team CeeLo
James
Juliet
Tony  V
Jamar

Tuesday was the live elimination round.

We found out america’s first save was Mathai, followed by Tony (!), and then Pip!   For Team CeeLo it was Juliet. Followed by Jamar and James.

Kim, Karla and Katrina battled it out for Team Adam. Of the three, I am sticking with my pick of Kim. Adam however went with Katrina, putting me at 75% right for Team Adam.

For team Cee Lo we heard again from Tony, Erin and Cheesa.  Once again, I’m sticking with my original pick of Tony V.  Cee Lo chooses Cheesa and I am at 75% for Team Cee Lo.

Idol – Top 8!

Wednesday night it was time for the 80s! on Idol… we were also treated to some duets.  Here are my thoughts on the night.

DeAndre – I Like It – This was really good. I like that there wasn’t much falsetto in it. I like it!

Elise – I Want To Know What Love Is – So glad that she didn’t do Hallelujiah. It is SO SO SO overdone.  However, the performance she ended up doing wasn’t that great.  Especially after doing so great last week.

Colton & Skylar – Islands In The Stream – Skyler was good, Colton, not so much.

Phillip – Thats All – When I saw the setlist for the night (w/o who was singing what) I said “That’s All? Sounds like a going home song to me!” But… it’s Phillip so I take that back. haha he did great, of course.

Hollie & DeAndre – I’m So Excited – Cute performance. Better than the first one.

Joshua – If You Don’t Know Me By Now – Another amazing performance from Joshua!

Jessica – How Will I Know – I used to rock out to this song over and over and over when I was in 1st grade haha I think Jessica definitely did it justice (to Whitney, not my 6year old version.. she blew that one out of the water haha)

Phillip & Elise – Stop Dragging My Heart Around – I think they sounded great together! Elise did much better in this song than she did with her solo number.

Hollie – What A Feeling – Good performance, but not great. Not sure it will keep her out of the bottom 3.

Jessica & Joshua – Knew You Were Waiting For Me – Great duet!

Colton – Time After Time – I so badly wanted him to suck again… because I don’t like him. But crap. He did good.

Skylar – Wind Beneath My Wings – Another great performance from her. I hope it is enough to keep her out of the bottom 3 because I love her!

Bottom 3: Hollie, Elise, DeAndre

Going Home: Elise

HEY! I got the bottom 3 right for once! Go me 🙂  But I got my going home wrong 🙁  Bummer.

The Voice – Live Rounds

Monday night was the first of the Live Rounds with Team Christina and Team Blake performing for America’s vote.  There are many ways to vote-  by phone, text, facebook, NBC.com and by buying the songs you liked on iTunes!  I was not home to actually watch the show “live”, I instead fast forwarded through everything but the performances so I have no idea if the coaches and I agreed or disagreed and I don’t know that I’ll ever know because I probably won’t have time to re-watch and find out.  Oh well, I should be around for the rest of the live rounds so the posts won’t be so half-assed 😉

Jermaine – Livin on a Prayer
Team Blake
Some parts of this performance seemed strained, but over all it was a good start to the show and a good performance

Chris – Bridge Over Troubled Water
Team Christina
I’m not in to Chris with this song. I don’t know why. I think he could have gone bigger. But it certainly wasn’t awful

RaeLyn – Wake Up Call
Team Blake
I don’t think she should have even made it to this round. She was out of breath and I was not a fan of this performance at all.

Moses – Stronger & Power
Team Christina
Another out of breath performance. I was not digging it.

Naia – Turning Tables
Team Blake
I really like her voice and I liked this performance, though it probably is not my favorite from her.

Lindsey – Somebody I Used To Know
Team Christina
Ok performance, she seemed overpowered by the background at times.

Jordis – Alone
Team Blake
In the beginning when she was singing softly, she was being overpowered by the background. But she did much better in the middle thr0ugh the end of the song.

Sera – Find Your Love
Team Christina
Wow. So many shirtless men! I like her, but I was not really a fan of this performance.

Erin – Living For The City
Team Blake
I loved her performance! Best of the night!

Ashley – Right Through You
Team Christina
Another great performance. A few off moments, but nothing too major that made it any less great.

Charlotte – Misery Loves Company
Team Blake
Great Voice!

Jesse – What A Wonderful World
Team Christina
A very wonderful way to end the night!

The singers I think will be advancing to the next round are:

Team Blake
Jermaine
Naia
Erin
Charlotte

Team Christina
Chris
Lindsey
Ashley
Jesse

We found out that Erin, Jermaine and RaeLyn were going through for Team Blake.  I was 2 for 3 there.

Naia, Jordis and Charlotte would have to perform for Blake’s choice.

For Team Christina: Jesse, Lindsey, Chris.  3 for 3!

Of Blake’s 3, I had Naia and Charlotte on my list, but I kind of think that Jordis did the best of the 3 sing for your life performances!  It’s no surprise that Blake chose her too – but that puts me at 50% correct choosing for Team Blake!

Of Christina’s 3 – I have Ashley as my pick. Based on the 3 performances, I stick with Ashley.   Christina’s pick of Ashley putting me at 100% for my picks with Team Christina!

Idol Top 9

Wednesday night the Idols sang the songs of their Idols and they also sang in trios!

Colton – Everything – I like Lifehouse… but this was SUCH a bad song to start the show off with. It was too slow and couldn’t keep my attention.  But, everyone love him so I’m sure he’ll be fine.

Skylar – Gunpowder and Lead – Great performance. She is definitely the best girl in this competition!

Colton, Elise, Phillip – Fleetwood Mac Medley – Phillip is so, so awkward without his guitar. But they all sounded pretty good together!

HeeJun – Song For You – NO. NOOOOOOOOOOO. This is Elliott’s song! (I even screamed out NO when he started singing w/ Jimmy and Stevie) And sing your damn “s’s”.  This was obviously better than most he’s done, but I still can’t stand him.

Hollie – Jesus Take The Wheel – Great performance!

DeAndre – Sometimes I Cry – Im not sure what to make of this performance.

Jessica – Sweet Dreams – Decent performance. Wasn’t blown away though.

DeAndre, HeeJun, Joshua – Michael Jackson Medley – That was cute but boy oh boy they can’t dance.

Phillip – Still Rainin – Love Jonny and loved Phillip’s rendition!

Joshua – Without You – Joshua is so good. He put his all into it. Love him.

Hollie, Skylar, Jessica – Madonna Medley – Probably my least favorite of the medleys. I think the girls were drowned out a bit though and that might have been why.

Elise – Whole Lotta Love – She did awesome. I like the performances so much better when the theme is a bit vaguer and all the contestants can pick stuff they want to do and know theyll do well with

Bottom 3: DeAndre, HeeJun, Colton

Going Home: DeAndre

Well, my bottom 3 picks SUCKED!  But I did get 1 right. And they didn’t use the save! PAR-TAY!

The Voice – Final Battle Rounds

Could it be? Finally the final battle rounds of The Voice!? Hooray!  (Although unfortunately I’m going to miss next week live because I’ll be hanging out at a Tyler Hilton concert… but I’ll catch up when I get home and get a recap posted, don’t you worry!)

The promos on the news said that CeeLo cried. I teased and said “what did he have to pick between two pretty girls?”  But in the intro to the show we see that his 2 remaining battles are all guys.  That’ll show me to tease CeeLo for loving the ladies 😉

Team CeeLo

James vs Wade
True Colors – Cyndi Lauper
My Pick: James
CeeLo’s Pick:  James

Team Adam

Nicole vs Mathai
Love Song – Sara Barreilles
My Pick: Mathai
Adam’s Pick:  Mathai

Team Christina

Moses vs The Line
I Can’t Get No Satisfaction – Rolling Stones
My Pick: The Line
Christina’s Pick:  Moses

Team Adam

Orlando vs Karla
Easy Like Sunday Morning – Commodores
My Pick: Orlando
Adam’s Pick: Karla

Team Blake

Jordan vs Naia
Im Yours – Jason Mraz
My Pick: Naia
Blake’s Pick: Naia

Team CeeLo

Tony vs Justin
Faithfully – Journey
My Pick: Tony
CeeLo’s Pick: Tony

4/6 this week… looking forward to the live shows next week!  There were a lot of great battles tonight, so I’m hoping the live ronds will be especially great!

The Voice Battle Rounds 3

I think I got the banner fixed. I don’t know why it was showing up so black last week – I like it much better with the white / transparent background.  This week we have more battle rounds.

Team Adam

Pip vs Nathan
Amy Winehouse – You Know I’m No Good
My Pick: Pip
Adam’s Pick: Pip

Team Cee Lo

Erin vs The Shields Brothers
Tina Turner – What’s Love Got To Do With It
My Pick: The Shields Brothers
Cee Lo’s Pick: Erin

(I had a feeling Cee Lo was going to pick her, but I try to pick who I would pick if I was a coach – not try to pick who I think the coaches will pick!)

Team Christina

Ashley vs Jonathas
Jordin Sparks/Chris Brown – No Air
My Pick: Ashley
Christina’s Pick: Ashley

Team Blake

Alyx vs Jermaine
Billy Ocean – Get Out Of My Dreams
My Pick: Jermaine
Blake’s Pick: Jermaine

Team Adam

Angel vs Katrina
Leona Lewis – Bleedin’ Love
My Pick: Katrina
Adam’s Pick:  Katrina

Team Blake

Gwen vs Erin
Pat Benatar – We Belong
My Pick:  Erin (but this was a tough one!)
Blake’s Pick:  Erin

Well, it looks like I was 5/6 this week – not bad, not bad.  One more week of battles next week and then time for the live round! 2 more for Adam, 1 more for Blake, 1 more for Christina and 2 more for Cee Lo will be picked next week!

Idol Top 12

Of course, Wednesday night was not without drama as we found out that one of the contestants had to be eliminated with the cooperation of the police department! The theme from this week is Songs from the Year You Were Born.

1. Philip – Hard To Handle – Kind of weird to see him without the guitar. I think I would have liked the performance more if he played up the stage a big – without the guitar he could easily do this.  Overall it was a good performance though.

2. Jessica – Turn The Beat Around – Jessica is great and obviously sang the crap out of this song. I’m not sure why the judges felt the need to give her so much criticism though!

3. Heejun – Right Here Waiting For You – This was so bad. I don’t even understand how he is still around.

4. Elise – Lets Stay Together – I think she did a lot better than last week not being stuck in a specific theme. She is good, but she needs to have songs that are in her wheelhouse.

5. DeAndre – Endless Love – I think I would have rather him sing a song from The Lion King…  I was not interested in this performance at all. Bummer.

6. Shannon – One Sweet Day – I think the background kind of drowned her out a bit at parts, but she did a great job and I hope that America will agree and she won’t be in the bottom again!

7. Colton – Broken Heart- Still not a fan of Colton. I also didn’t like the little stylistic hiccups he added in their either.Unfortunately he did well with it otherwise so he should be safe.

8. Erika – Heaven – Love love love her!

And now we find out that it was Jermaine who will be kicked off the show. So they brought him back for what? 2 weeks? Hate to say I told you so… but ya shoulda brought back Johnny!

9. Skylar – Love Sneakin’ Up On You – I am glad that she stuck to her guns and didn’t let Jimmy pick a new song for her. I don’t know what he thinks he is doing but he is worthless as far as I’m concerned. I think that it was a great performance. And JLo saying they have to be honest with them is such BS because they totally oogle all over the ones they love even when they suck (which was not Skylar, but they do it EVERY. WEEK.)

10. Joshua – When A Man Loves a Woman – Joshua is so good. So, so, so good.

11. Hollie – The Power Of Love – She really likes singing songs from ladies with big voices – and she does a great job with them too!

Bottom 3: Heejun, Elise, DeAndre

Going Home: No one. It will be another Top 11 tour. (Or Heejun)

Thursday night we suffered through Demi Lovato and Daughtry.   And why does Ryan pick on Colton EVERY week with making it seem like he is in the bottom?  I think Colton has finally caught on based on him saying “really, really?” to Ryan. We also found out that my Bottom 3 picks pretty much sucked – although I did get 1 right (and the other 2 I had in the bottom were the final one standing with the one who did go in the bottom 3 so that threw me as well.)  I am really not in agreement with what went down – Heejun needs to have been gone WEEKS ago. I just do not see what anyone can see in him and him bring on the TV makes me want to punch things lol
