The Voice – Top 8

The Voice top 8 performed on Monday night.  If there are only 8 performers and you have enough time to have a coach perform with 50 cent – MAYBE it is time to cut the show down to an hour. MAYBE… Seriously, this show is SO drawn out I really don’t even know why I bother watching it live any more! I could be done with the performances in like 15 minutes if I watched it from a recording.

Amanda – Someone Like You – They need to stop trying to get her to repeat dream on.  I don’t think she ever will. But she still does AMAZING week after week and they should focus more on that!

Cody – Somebody to Love – I think it was a good performance but he’s no Freddy.

Terry – Over – I’m not sure this was the right choice for him. It was hard to understand a lot of the lyrics. But the chorus was great!

Melanie – Too Close – Have I mentioned this show is dragging? I think I fell asleep during Melanie’s performance.  Woke up at the end and it sounded ok.  And did Carson make her cry?

I can’t wait for 6 people to sing over 2 hours… yawn…

Dez – You Smile – Honestly the only one that kept my attention all night.  But the beginning seemed like Christina is trying to turn him into her with all the adlibbing!

Trevin – Greatest Love Of All – Great performance. Not screechy! I was a bit nervous when they said he’d be doing Whitney!

Nicholas – What’s Going On – Another great performance from Nicholas.

Cassadee – Are You Happy Now? – Strong performance but I still don’t like her!

Going home – Cody and Trevin. (Actually I really have no idea. Tough week!)

The XFactor – Top 8

This weeks theme is #1 songs.  And our top 8 will perform for America’s votes.  Then we will have another double elimination that will make the Top 8 be a Top 6.  Who will be going home? I have my picks… let’s see if I’m right.

Diamond – I Want to Dance With Somebody – I got a bit nervous when she started that it was going to be another ballad.  But then when it picked up she seemed to be lacking something so I’m not really sure how I feel about this performance.  Somewhere in the middle, maybe. (Hard to say since she was first!)

Vino – You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling – Not my favorite performance from Vino, but I don’t think it was terrible either. But I’m sure Demi will diss him either way.

Paige – Never Gonna Give You Up – Did XFactor just Rick Roll me? I wasn’t too over the top into this performance… but LA seemed to think the opposite.  I’m not sure that she should be in the bottom with the performance, but it didn’t blow me away (although I don’t know that anyone does)

Fifth Harmony – Stronger – Their intro had me crying my eyes out. I also think they kicked this songs ass. Seriously amazing.

Carly Rose – Rolling in the Deep – I think she made this song her own and I think she did great with it – but you all know I love the girl.

Tate – Somebody Like You – Still not a fan. Didn’t like this performance much at all. It seemed rushed and off at parts. I don’t know if he did it on purpose, but I didn’t like it.

Cece – Lady Marmalade – I think it was an improvement from the last few weeks, but she’s still not that strong of a singer.

Emblem 3 – I’m a Believer – Awesome! I hope this bounces them up a little higher – though I don’t really want them at #1.  How about.. #3.  😉

Going home: Paige and Cece.

Results time! Simon says that he has a bad feeling about who will be going home and is praying it is not one of his two, but won’t name any names.

The act with the lowest number of votes and sent home immediately is Paige Thomas.

That means that Diamond and Vino will be singing for survival.  Wow. Wow. Wow.  I can see Diamond being in the bottom – but Vino? He had been so consistently on top!

From the two performances, I think that Diamond should be sent home.

The Voice had the Top 10 perform this week.  But we were first treated to a performance from Christina and Blake.  I guess they are really trying to help Christina get some more record sales.  And waste time. Because if there is one thing The Voice is good at – it is wasting time!

I am also blogging this while playing along live with VIGGLE for the first time (I just signed up this week!) So if my post seems a bit distracted, it is because I am trying to answer trivia while watching.

Sylvia – Girl On Fire  – A few pitchy points and there is still something about her I don’t like. I’m not sure she’ll make it through to next week.

Terry – Summer of 69 – My mom thinks he could be this years winner.  He is very solid and consistent with his performances so I think she could be right!

Melanie – Seven Nation Army – Still not a fan.

Cody – Crazy In Love – Not sure how I feel about the outfit (Mom says he thinks hes Adam Lambert) Mediocre performance.

Bryan – New York State of Mind – It is so crazy to think he used to front a metal band! This was a great performance.

Amanda – Stars – Beautiful performance

Nicholas – Lean on Me – Another great performance from Nicholas.

Trevin – Scream – A little screechy, but considering the song is called Scream I guess I can let it slide. Another good performance from Trevin.

Cassadee – Over You  – Ok performance. I dont know. I couldnt get into it s much as I would have liked

Dez – Feeling Good – What a great performance to end the night with!

The Voice – Top 12

Time for the Top 12. Things have changed a bit and it is possible that an entire team could get knocked out  – there are no guarantees that each team will move on each round.  I really like this because sometimes one team is stacked a bit better than the others – it will be interesting to see how that ends up turning out!

Michaela – Blow Me One Last Kiss – I really like her and it was nice to see a different hairdo other than the mohawk! Though I do think she had some trouble keeping up with the song and breathing – it’s not easy!

Dez – Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You – Very strong performance from him. And he’s cute so I think he’ll have no problem going through again 

Adriana – Good Girl – ok performance, shouty at points though

Cody – The Best – Good performance. I like Cody.

Amanda – Spectrum – I didn’t like this performance from her at all, which is a bummer because she was so good previously!

Bryan – Back to Black – Loved this performance from Bryan. It was nearly perfect to me.

Cassadee – Behind These Hazel Eyes – It was a good performance from her. But I can’t say I’m a fan.

Trevin – When A Man Loves a Woman – Awesome performance from Trevin! Maybe even the best of the night!

Melanie – Cough Syrup – I think this was a good song for her and she did well but I’m still not team melanie.

Nicholas – Power Of Love – Another great performance from Nicholas. I see him going far (now that I know America likes him too!)

Sylvia – My Heart Will Go On – Wasn’t a fan of this performance.  Might have been bad enough to send her home, but it wasn’t fantastic.

Terry – More Than a Feeling – a great performance to end the night!

XFactor Top 12

Wednesday night the Top 12 performed.  It was announced that this would be a DOUBLE elimination week.

Theme: Divas

Jennel – Proud Mary – Great way to start off the night! I’m with Simon – she improved a bunch.

Tate – From This Moment – I really don’t know how or why he was #1 last week and I certainly hope he isn’t this week too.  I was not impressed with this performance in the slightest.

Diamond – Halo – Very strong performance from Diamond.

Beatrice – Time After Time – Who decides what she wears? She is so 1990s grunge and I don’t understand it! She is still not one of my favorites, but this performance was decent.

Lyric 145 – We Will Rock You / ET – I love them. They’re so fun!

Arin – Crazy For You – (Did they start playing Lyric 145′s track again instead of his at first?) Not a great performance with him, and with his being #11 last week it is very possible that he may be one of the ones to go home.

Paige – Last Dance – Another great performance from Paige!

Fifth Harmony – Hero – There are definitely a few girls in the group better than the others which totally comes across when they are all singing at once.  I think with time they might be able to work on this but for now it makes things sound not so great at times.

Carly Rose – My Heart Will Go On – I actually thought she was going to sing this last week! Another great performance from her but I am worried her high ranking last could cause people to not vote for her this week.  (And FYI LA saying we could be looking at the winner gave me flashbacks to her audition when Demi said she thought she could win it!)

Vino – Let’s Stay Together – There is just a tone to his voice that I absolutely love.

Emblem 3 – No One – I’m not sure if this was their strongest performance, but it was good and looked like they were having a lot of fun and I don’t think they’re in trouble.

Cece – All By Myself – I just do not like her and I don’t think this performance was that great.  As much as I disliked Jillian – she would have been a MUCH better choice for this spot in the young adults group!  She had that one long note but after that everything sounded off key.

I think that Arin and Cece will be going home.

The first act leaving the competition gets told to us relatively early in the show or so we think.  Then we are teased with having to wait through the commercials.  After the break we find out that it is Lyric 145 going home!  WHAT!? I am shocked.

Then we are treated to Taylor Swift and her horrible inability to sing live.

Safe and through: Arin, Vino, Carly Rose, Diamond, Tate, Emblem 3, Beatrice, Cece

Jennel, Paige and Fifth Harmony are left with 1 more going through and the other 2 will sing for survival.

I am really shocked with how this voting went.  America is full of idiots man.  (Or is the audio on my TV THAT bad!?)

Jennel sings first and it seems like there are some nerves there. Paige goes next.

From the two performances, I would send home Jennel. (Even though it pains me to say that! There are at least 3 people I’d have wanted to send home before her!)

The Voice – Live Playoffs

Team Adam and Team Blake take the stage tonight for the first episode of the playoffs.  2 artists from each team will be going home, 3 will make it through.  America will pick 2 of the 3, with the coaches having the final say.  I don’t understand why the contestants didn’t alternate between Team Adam and Blake and we had some go back to back instead. It seems like it would have been more fair to just alternate than end the night with two of team Adam’s?

Night 2 brought us Team XTina vs Team CeeLo. With it being up against XFactor, I opted to catch it online the next day which is why you may see some comment about skipping and bad video.  Only a couple weren’t great quality for me so I think I got the idea of the performances enough to throw together some thoughts.

Team Adam

Joselyn – Give Your Heart a Break – She seemed too breathy and I wasn’t overly impressed with her.

Melanie – Hit The Road Jack – There is something about her I don’t like. I didn’t like or dislike her performance though, I’m pretty neutral about it.

Bryan – Iris – Probably the best from Team Adam so far, but that’s not saying much.

Loren – All Around The World – This was a great song for her

Amanda – Dream On – Ah I see, Team Adam was saving the best for last. Another great performance.

Terry – Don’t Stop Believing – Terry is definitely one of the front runners in the competition and I think he did great with his performance.

Liz – Independence Day – I wasn’t really in to this performance. She seemed to be pitchy and fall over words at spots.

Cassadee – My Happy Ending – I want to dislike her, but she did a great job on that song.

Michaela – Everybody Talks – I think she is one of my favorites in the competition. If she doesnt make it through something is wrong with the show.

Julio – El Ray – I think he is taking a big risk singing in Spanish, but he has a nice voice.

De’borah – Who Knew – Her performance kept skipping for me, but from what I heard it was good.

Devyn – Bleeding Love – great performance, I was really impressed with it

Dez – Wanted – Currently my favorite song in the world, so obviously him making it less country made me love it all the more!

Cody – One More Try – Love cody! Nice performance showing off another side of him.

Diego – Bailamos – Love him but I am not sure this song was the best choice or enough for him to make it through

Mackenzie – What Makes You Beautiful – I really like him, but I don’t like him doing only re-makes of current pop stuff. I’d like to hear something different.

Nicholas – My Everything – He has a really great voice, but I’m not sure his look will get him through with America’s vote.( But I hope Im wrong!)

Trevin – What Am I Supposed To Do Without You – I prefer his performances like this, his higher register is a bit too much for me.

The XFactor – Top 12

This week the top 12 perform and America gets to vote! They are also bragging about a HUGE TWIST… and they will be having another finalist return because they made a mistake… so we will now have a Top 13… welcome back Diamond White! (Certainly not who I would have brought back, but, ok.)

This week’s theme: Songs from The Movies

Arin Ray – American Boy – I think this was a strong performance from him and a good way to kick of the week.

Paige Thomas – Take My Breath Away – Not as impressed with this performance. I don’t know what happened because I do like her but her singing was not the best I’ve heard from her.

Vino Alan – When A Man Loves a Woman – So good! And I loved the East Coast shout out from him as well.

Emblem 3 – My Girl / California Girls – I could have gone without them trying to make it sound like One Direction… but.. oh, I love them.

Beatrice Miller – Iris – There is just something about her I don’t really like.

Jennel Garcia – I Love Rock N Roll – She is good, but I think she got too shouty at some parts. Not enough to warrant going home though.

Tate Stevens – Dead or Alive – He is a strong singer. I see that LA is trying to keep all his performances scaled back.

Lyric 145 – Supercalifragiliciousexpialodocious (sp?) –  Freaking. awesome.

Diamond White – I Have Nothing – going for it all with this comeback performance, I  see.  She is really good. Whitney good? Probably not. But she should stick around for a while.

Cece Frey – Eye of the Tiger – Oh hey the Leopard tattoos are back. And the ability to sing is STILL MISSING!  (Why did Cece get through and not Jillian?)

Carly Rose – It Will Rain – A nice stripped back performance from Carly Rose. She has such a powerful voice and I know I’m totally biased, but I love her.

Jason Brock – I Believe I Can Fly – I think I am over Jason at this point.

Fifth Harmony – 1000 years – Not a fan of the song but I am hoping that they go somewhere because we really need a poppy girl group again!

My bottom 3 are Paige, Jason and Beatrice.  With most likely Paige being the one to go home.

Well, I got 1 out of the bottom right (even with them having a bottom 2 and me picking 3!) but to be quite honest, I’d rather see CeCe leave than Jason!

CeCe sings You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me. I’ll give her a bit of a pass because she is full of nerves, but it wasn’t that great, even with the pass.

Jason sings Total Eclipse of the Heart. He doesn’t seem to be affected by nerves.

From those 2 performances I would send home CeCe. Let’s see what the judges do…

I am a little bit confused with these votes. The Voice – Knockout Rounds

Ah, the Knockout rounds. The new addition to the show. Each contestant chooses their own song to perform and the coaches pick 2 contestants. After they each sing their song, one is chosen to move on and the other moves home. After the other rounds seemed to be dragging on and on, they went through these pretty quickly.  I think 4 hour long shows instead of 2 2 hour long shows would have held my attention a bit better.  With the hurricane knocking out power Monday night, we watched Tuesday on demand and then the second episode “live”, so it was a little bit of knockout round overkill here at CK headquarters. lol.  Now each coach has 5 team members and we will be going to the live shows. Where I imagine things will be cut down pretty quickly again (or maybe not, since they will now be competing with XFactor’s live shows.)

XFactor – Top 16

I think this is the first time I am actually able to watch the show “live” since it premiered! Between losing Fox, getting new cable but then not being home when it was on… Sheesh!  But I guess now is as good a time as any to avoid being spoiled!  There will be no public vote and the judges will decide who stays to move on to next week!

No fancy XFactor logo/icon.. yet. Maybe Ill try to make something this weekend.

This week’s theme “Made in America”

Paige Thomas – What Is Love –  What an outfit! I thought she did well but going first I have nothing to compare her to. It didn’t really blow me away.  But we’ll see how the rest of the contestants end up doing.

Arin Ray – You Keep Me Hanging On – Definitely an interesting song choice – Diana Ross – but I liked the rendition.  The smoke going off was a bit distracting though. Again, I’m not blown away but it was a decent performance.

David Correy – My Love Is Your Love – Probably my favorite performance thus far, though that is not really saying much since we are only 3 in.

Sister C – Hell on Heels – Not a fan of Sister C. Though I did like that Simon had them do a bit scaled back performance compared to some of the others. Just the three of them on stage and some fancy lights.

Jennel Garcia – Home Sweet Home – I don’t like that Demi had them do Jennel’s hair just like hers! But I do like Jennel and I think she is my favorite of Demi’s gang. It was a great performance.  (Simon said the same thing about trying to make Jennel a clone of Demi!)

Diamond White – Hey Soul Sister – This performance seemed to have a lot going on and a lot of colors which distracted a bit from Diamond’s performance. And I swear the audio on this show is terrible (or maybe I’m going deaf?) Every performance I have to turn it up louder. I wasn’t too into this performance, but I don’t think it was the worst either. (I also really dislike Train and that probably has a lot to do with it)

Vino Alan – Gotta Be Somebody – I think that Vino was my fave of the over 25s. Unfortunately the song choice left something to be desired.

Lyric 145 – Boom! Shake the Room / Gangnam Style – This brought my back to my days of Kriss Kross when I was a kid… Probably my favorite of the night! Wow. Awesome.

CeCe Frey- Because the Night – I think she took on too much with this song and seemed to lose her breath at times. And I just don’t like her.. so there’s that.

Tate Stevens – Tough – Not really a country fan but he is pretty good!

Beatrice Miller – I Won’t Give Up – There is something about her that I don’t like, but she did a  good performance, although some parts came across more as she was talking than singing. I did think she brought feeling into the song though.

Jason Brock – Dance Again – He is very over the top – but for him, it totally works. I’m not sure I’d listen to his stuff after the competition, but he is a lot of fun and very entertaining!

Lylas 1432 -We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together – Obviously don’t like the song choice – but I really love this group. Favorite group? Maybe.  Not sure I like the new name though. Perhaps it’ll grow on me.

Willie Jones – Here For The Party – I like Willie. You just totally don’t expect him to have that country voice!

Carly Rose – Somethings Got a Hold Of Me – This is my girl! I saw her audition and I want to see her go all the way!

Emblem 3 – One Day – I was really not sold on these guys until they did some harmonies in the beginning… and I think they’ve won me over. Just what I need.. another “we’re not a boyband” to obsess over.

Assuming 1 from each group is going home – from the Young Adults I would send home CeCe, from the groups Sister C, from the kids Beatrice and from the over 25s maybe Vino.

I really don’t know how they’re going to do it…

Young Adults – Jennel and Paige (totally cool with that!)

CeCe sings for her life – again I am having audio issues so the background music seemed to be taking over. Is it just me or is this how FOX is for this show?

Willie sings for his life – I don’t know. I wasn’t really blown away by EITHER… but I like Willie more…

Demi sends home Willie 

Over 25s – LA’s turn to be in the hot seat.  He saves Vino and Tate.  I actually had Jason as going home but changed it to Vino (why?) So now I am 0 for 2 lol

David and Jason sing for their life.  I like them both, but forced to pick I’d go with David to stay.

LA sends home David. (WOW. I am really bad at picking!)

Teens – Britney saves Beatrice and Carly Rose (YES! I still stink at picking but my girl is through!)

Diamond and Arin must sing for their lives. I thought Arin sounded off key but based on the judges I am wrong. (I really think the FOX audio is just bad, I have it turned up a TON too)  Of the two I think Arin should go home.

Britney sends home Diamond.  (I do not have XFactor judge as a job in my future,huh?)

Groups – No brainer – Emblem 3 goes through first. Lyric 145 are the other easy choice to make it through.

1432 and Sister C sing for their life.  My vote goes to 1432 to stay and Sister C to go home…

Simon sends home Sister C.  (Well, it looks like I got one right…)

I am looking forward to getting to vote next week! Even though I seem o fail at XFactor judging… Hopefully I’m a bit better at voting!

The Voice

And the battle rounds continue! The only good thing about being away is that I’m not watching “live” so I can get through the shows much quicker than usual! (And go back if the speed rounds are too much for me!)  It took me about 40 minutes to get through the first 1 hour episode (but I was multi tasking and catching up on other bloggy things so I had to pause and go back a couple of times)  I made it through the second episode in about 20 minutes paying full attention and now I’m kind of thinking I should not watch it live any more and just catch up later!

All teams are now full – plus 2 steals each and we’ll be moving on to the knock out round! This is a new round… and teams will be cut in half again – from 10 to 5 with 5 moving on to the live rounds.  This should be interesting!
