Today Show 9/25

Today show went rather well. I woke up a little after 4 to get ready. Lauren showed up around 5 and we took the 5:22 train in to the city.

We got to the plaza and got a spot in the pen. Al Roker came over and shook everyones hands and said hello. Matt and Meredith came out but stayed to the other side of the pen.

I spotted one of the guests leaving and we hoped we'd see john krasinski leaving but no such luck.

Al came over and talked to the family that was next to us so I am pretty sure I was on TV but of course I only set the recorder for 1 hour!!

At 9 a bunch of people left and we moved to the other window. Of course then HS comes out the door we were watching all morning but moved away from! They came down briefly for the interview with extra and went back inside.

We saw them performing a check or prerecord for the coming up next spot. Then later they performed for real. Unfortunately we had no sound, but the fans sang along anyway! (The guys didn't know we couldn't hear)

Then we waited for them to come outside. They went downstairs but shortly after came back and we got to talk to andy for a bit.

Then their manager had us say 'honor society rocks mtv no duh' and I was right by mike so I can't wait for that to be online!

Now we're on the train home! Can't wait to get back to bed.

Honor Society Listening Party

Thought I was going to miss today, did you?

Not when I have something legit to talk about!!

Last night was Honor Society’s CD Release party in NYC. Lauren and I were obviously planning to go regardless, but since only the first 150 people would be let in, we weren’t sure if we’d make it so we tried to win passes from the fanclub.

In true concertkatie fashion, at 10am I got an email that I had won passes and that I needed to show up by 5:45 in order to be let in.

We got in a bit early and no guest list line was set up, so when we asked we became the first ones in line. While security was trying to figure out what was going on, Honor Society showed up and Alex came right over to Lauren and I to give us a hug ๐Ÿ™‚ Then they went inside for an interview.

Shortly after we were let in and when I picked up the passes they were VIP! We went into the small VIP area and were in there with family and friends of the band.

Soon after the guys came out and gave speeches and then came to mingle with the VIP area. We talked to Mike and Andy and got a pic and auto from Andy. Alex’s mom was right near us so she made sure Alex came by to sign our CD ๐Ÿ™‚ before heading out to mingle with the fans.

Later on, Jason came back into the VIP area so we were able to get a pic/auto from him.

We decided to venture into the crowd to get the last signature, from Mike and get a picture with him and then attempt to get a picture with Alex.

Alex is always surrounded by 5x as many girls as the other guys are. We almost made it up to him when he got called away (again) so they could say their goodbyes.

Luckily, we were VIP so when they came back out we were able to grab Alex for a picture and then chat with him for quite some time about our dreams and aspirations. (I want to see the band 20 times be the end of this year, he wants to be on late night TV lol) He said we should come to the Today Show and was asking if TV Shows count in my concert count. (As long as they perform – YES!) And he also said he would give me a drumstick in PA – I just need to make a sign so he’ll remember ๐Ÿ™‚

Then we chatted with Andrew a bit about our website, how many hits we’ve been getting lately and how they got a TON of plays on the myspace when they put the album up to listen before its release. He also said we should come to the today show and was really pressuring us to go LOL But we will do what we can! Gotta get the day off and take a 4am train so there’s a certain amount of preparation that goes in to that mentally lol

Seriously I don’t even feel like the night really happened, it was so amazing! I love those guys and am so so so proud of them and how far they have come (even though to me it seems like it has been SO FAST!) and can not wait to continue on this journey with them ๐Ÿ™‚

Check out my pics with the guys under the cut ๐Ÿ™‚

Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers 9-11-09

Last night was my 30th concert of 2009 and also my 20th time seeing Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers in concert (SK6ers) The old crew got back together after not seeing SK6ers all together in about 2 years!

This show was also even more special as it was the FIRST show on the latest tour for SK6ers and their CD “The Bear” just came out on Tuesday – so it was the first show where it was available for sale.

The opening act was Jeffrey Gaines who before pretty much every song it seemed told us what the song he was going to sing was about and why he wrote it. Knowing why songs were written or how they were inspired is incredibly interesting to me so it was fascinating to hear these stories.

I had DLed The Bear on Tuesday from Amazon MP3 to get the bonus tracks, but then ended up so busy I hadn’t listened to it yet, so going into the show I wasn’t sure how many songs I would know, but Jen and I discussed on the way there that a few of the songs on the CD we did know from them playing them live before they actually made it on to a CD. Stephen also assured the crowd at the beginning of the show that they would throw in older songs as well – and they sure threw in all of our favorites ๐Ÿ™‚

A new cover was thrown into the mix – of Sheryl Crow:

A couple of songs in a guy next to me jumped over the row and sat right next to me. When there were 3 empty seats next to me so he easily could have gone in to the middle seat not to disturb anyone. He also was clapping off-beat and that threw me off royally when Stephen had us clap along to Shady Esperanto and the Young Hearts. I opted to record video of the song at that point instead. He also had a really WIDE clap and for a small venue that was just not appropriate at all…

It was great to see the SK6ers again, I think the last time i saw them was on the Rock Boat so it had been quite some time, for Jen almost a year and Jessa – 2 years!

After the show, I purchased the hard copy of the CD to get it signed. We talked to Stephen first, and he smelled my CD. Then we went to Kit and he also smelled my cd lol It’s got to be cool to a see a CD come together after so much time working on recording it and designing it and stuff. Kit also was checking out Jessa’s insert saying how it was nice to see it all finally together. Boots did not smell my cd, but we did talk a bit about the Mets and how sad the season was.

I’m not sure when I’ll be seeing the SK6ers again as their tour isn’t coming back this way for quite a while, but I am very much looking forward to seeing them again – I always leave with a huge smile on my face.

A Series of Unfortunate Events โ€“ Idol Style

Let’s just recap last night a bit. Then under the cut I’ll do pics and review and setlist and all that good stuff ๐Ÿ™‚

1. Had tickets, then didn’t
2. Got 8th row, 6th row popped up right after
3. Took an HOUR to get off the exit and find parking
4. Squeezed in such a tight spot, I barely was able to get out of my car.
5. As I walked in, music was starting. (Luckily, just the intro videos!)
6. Sat down and women next to me are whispering about me and looking at me. One goes “FYI, but my husband is coming BACK” and motions like his seat is my seat. I tell her “but this is MY seat” and she looks at her ticket to realize SHE CANT READ. Mayyybe read before accusing me of stealing your seat? (This happened to me at the Red Sox game too, apparently I look like I can’t read or count. Trust me, I can. At least when it comes to tickets~!)
7. AND KRIS ALLEN WAS TOO SICK TO SING
9. The door to the parking garage I came through was LOCKED (but thankfully I found my car)
10. There was a ton of construction on the highway on the way home

definitely in the bottom as far as concert experiences go. unfortunately.

Under the cut I’ll try to be a bit happier ๐Ÿ˜‰

Michael Sarver
In Love With A Girl, Gavin DeGraw
Closer, Ne-Yo
Michael was up first. I can never remember the order they were voted out. So I’m like.. wait.. he was kicked out before she was? and stuff like that throughout the show lol The crowd didn’t really seem into him, but I think he did a great job and he just kept waving to everyone. Super cute.

Megan Joy
Put Your Records On, Corrine Bailey Rae
Tears Dry on Their Own, Amy Winehouse
Megan was better than I expected she would be, but wasn’t overly impressive or amazing. I’ve read other reviews that said she was… so either those people need new ears or perhaps she also has the bug? Who knows. Glad she only did 2 songs though.

Scott MacIntyre
Bend & Break, Keane
A Thousand Miles, Vanessa Carlton
Scott gave us all a high five and was talking about how his and Ryan’s hi-five was the “high five heard round the world” He tried to joke a bit but they all seemed to fall flat. He sounded great though, even though I hear after Kris he is probably the next sickest.

Lil Rounds
Be Without You/Just Fine, Mary J. Blige
No One, Alicia Keys
Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It), Beyoncรฉ
Lil sounded really raspy. Again, don’t know if it’s the bug or if she’s just strained from performing night after night. She rocked at doing the Single Ladies dance. And there was some guys standing next to the side of the stage doing all the choreography with her. Very entertaining.

Anoop Desai
Always On My Mind, Willie Nelson/Elvis Presley
Mad, Ne-Yo
My Prerogative, Bobby Brown
Anoop BROUGHT IT. Boy can sing and boys got moooves! Totally impressed with his set. I mean, I knew he was good in the original auditions but on the show he seemed to lose that edge he had. (Heck, he didn’t make the Top 12!) But he can definitely sing. And dance!

Matt Giraud
Hard to Handle, Otis Redding/Black Crowes
Georgia on My Mind, Ray Charles/Hoagy Carmichael, Stuart Gorrell
You Found Me, The Fray
Matty G was awesome too. He has a great voice. Though didn’t really seem to have the fanbase during the show. (He definitely does now though!)

Production Number
Megan & Lil: Canโ€™t Take My Eyes Off of You, Four Seasons/Andy Williams
Scott & Matt: Tell Her About It, Billy Joel
Michael: Suspicious Minds, Elvis Presley
Anoop, Matt, Scott, Michael, Lil, Megan: Begginโ€™, Four Seasons/Madcon
I really liked the medleys and them all singing together. For me this was the best part of the show. Little did I know what was coming juuust after.

Sick Kris ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ™

Allison Iraheta
So What, Pink
Cry Baby, Garnet Mimms/Janis Joplin
Barracuda, Heart
I was incredibly devastated during Allison’s set. But she is amazing! So talented for being so young. She had great stage presence too.

Danny Gokey
P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing), Michael Jackson
Maria Maria, Santana
What Hurts the Most, Rascal Flatts
My Wish, Rascal Flatts
Gokey still can’t dance, but he tried.

(love this shot)
Adam Lambert
Whole Lotta Love, Led Zeppelin
Starlight, Muse
Mad World, Tears for Fears/Gary Jules
Slow Ride, Foghat (with Allison Iraheta)
Life on Mars/Fame/Letโ€™s Dance, David Bowie
Adam sounded like a chipmunk during Starlight. And I think the girl in front of me noticed too because when he started she turned to her friend and gave a “WTF?” look.. and I’m sure I looked about the same. I don’t even understand where that voice came from but it was only for that one song. I stood for his set, because if not I wouldn’t be able to get pics. And then I was sad when I got good pictures. I was just.. completely sad the whole second act.

Group Idol Finale
Entire Group(-Kris): Donโ€™t Stop Believing, Journey (with a chorus of Steamโ€™s Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye)

Arthur ashe kids day

In the summer of 1997, Hanson performed at kids day. I found out after the fact that a friend of my dads would have taken me and I have been bitter about it ever since.

When I found out Honor Society would be playing the event this year, I knew I had to go. We ended up getting general admission tickets and just before the event Lauren won tickets from Twist Magazine that were much better than what we had.

Hurricane Danny tried to ruin our day, it was raining a lot in the morning but when it was time for the stadium show, the skies cleared.

We got to see a bunch of tennis stars as well as comedic actors will ferrell and will arnett play in a game ref'ed by Kenan of SNL.

Jordin Sparks performed first, singing Battlefield, One Step At A Time and SOS (Let the Music Play)

Honor Society was up second and played Over You and See U In The Dark. There were people honor rolling in various sections of the stadium. It was such a proud moment to be a part of their national television debut.

Justin Bieber was the 3rd performer and did 3 songs which were hard to hear due to all the girls screaming for him. I wasn't all that impressed with him.

We also got a close up view of the unisphere and the spaceships for Men In Black.

Despite the staffers not being very knowledgable and a few overzealous parents, it turned out to be a great day! (And I told a woman I was 12 to get a free hat. I was supposed to be there when I was 12, so maybe now I won't be bitter anymore lol)

Photos of the performances and tennis stars coming soon!!

Tinted Windows โ€“ Wolfโ€™s Den โ€“ August 4th

Last night, Tinted Windows played at the Wolf’s Den at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT. This venue is very unique. It is right smack in the middle of the casino, is completely seated and holds 200 people. There are no tickets, it’s all done on a first come first serve basis. If its a popular show and you don’t get inside the seated area, you can stand around the perimeter or even sit down at a slot machine and still have a great view!

When we arrived at 6pm, there were maybe 20 people in line. I went to find Mohegan’s version of Texas Tea, a machine I loved at Foxwoods. The game was totally different and quickly I was down $10. A little after 7 I went and got a seat. This was my first time being seated on the floor. There were 5 others at my table and we didn’t talk too much. (2 of the 5 didn’t show up until just minutes before the band came on stage though)

James Iha walked through the seating area, right past our table and looked right at me. I was shocked no one else seemed to notice him walking by. Although it did seem like most of the crowd was there for Taylor Hanson.

At 8pm the band took the stage! A couple songs in I started to feel a very cool and refreshing sensation. Oh, wait, the kid seated across from me knocked his water over which ended up all over my LAP. Oddly enough, earlier in the evening I was debating on what shorts to wear. WHY this was an issue, I don’t know as the shorts I have dubbed my “concert pants” should have been the ones to wear, right? WRONG. I opted to wear a pair made out of a windbreaker like material. The water ended up not getting absorbed by the pants at all so within another song or so I was dried off. And the kid sitting across from me was embarrassed and super apologetic. No biggie, it was only water! (And it didn’t make me look like I had an accident so really, I couldn’t hate on him too much)

Taylor and Adam encouraged the crowd to stand up (We were at a casino, but it was still a rock concert, after all) and many stood up and made their way to the stage. I opted to stay back, but HAD to stand up during the first song of the encore – if not Taylor wouldn’t start singing. And who wanted to be held responsible for that? Certainly not me.

They played for an hour, and the set list was exactly the same as the NYC show. (boooooring!)

Then I decided to try and win my money back on a Munsters nickel machine. For the night, I ended up losing only $2.40 and the concert was free so really, not a bad trade off at all!

David Cook โ€“ August 1 โ€“ MGM Grand Theater

Last night I went up to Foxwoods Casino’s MGM Grand Theater to check out David Cook. It was my 4th time seeing him and I think the farthest back I’ve ever been to see him. (And the farthest back I’ve been at a show lately!) But that didn’t matter, I knew I would be rocking out even if I was in the very last show of the venue (but I was thankful that I was not in the last row)

The opening act was Green River Ordinance, whom I was familiar with from January’s Rock Boat. I wanted to get their CD after the show – but their set went over SO well it was sold out! I’ll have to get it on their website or iTunes I guess!

David and his band took the stage to Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” and started the set off with Heroes. He talked after just about every song. Once he heard someone say it was their birthday so he said “I hope your birthdays wicked rad” in a Boston accent. Then someone else said it was their birthday so he asked for the house lights to go up and said if its your birthday raise your hand. A LOT of people did so then he was like “You’re lying!” and started laughing and repeated “Youre lying!! I refuse to believe that many people in this section were conceived nine months ago”

I think that this was one of the larger shows that he had played on this tour. (We were show #95) He talked about how during soundcheck he looked up at the balcony and all the seats in the front and was wondering what they’d look like filled up. Now that he saw it – it was a lot of people.

I think he could have just talked to us the whole night and I would have been just as satisfied, he is so funny!

After Kiss On The Neck, which was dedicated to the single people in the crowd, he decided to share this gem with us: (Which I got on video, but the picture of it is really blurry so I’m not sure I’ll bother uploading it… plus he seemed so embarrassed its probably best to not have video evidence of this out there lol)

“For dinner tonight I had a waffle, couple eggs, some hasbrowns, some toast, 3 sodas, a milkshake… and im paying for it right now.. during that song i was like [makes burping noises]…. why did i just tell that to this entire audience? The sound guys is going ‘abort man, abort! get out of this conversation right now!’ If anything this should tell you, this show is not scripted. What the hell am I talking about?”

Then he went into a cover of Cutting Crew’s “(I Just) Died In Your Arms Tonight” and said that for the younger crowd it’s not a Jonas Brothers song, but it’s close.

During a quiet moment early in the show he said he was going to share “something important” with us, which led someone to scream “DAVID COOK FOR PRESIDENT” which totally made him lose his train of thought. He said he would probably not run for president. And I don’t think he ever did end up telling us anything important. haha.

Completely overwhelmed by the number of people there to see him, he shared a story about one of his first gigs in Kansas City. They were paid $100 to play for 3 hours. They learned 30 songs figuring that 3 minutes a song the math would work out. Except they played the set in an hour and a half and had to play the whole set over again the fill the 3 hours. ( 3 x 30 = 90 minutes, david!)

As always, David put on a great show and this show really took the bad taste out of my mouth that I kind of associated with his shows after the whole Toads Place drama. I can’t wait to see him again! (And I’m totally bummed he has 2 shows and a signing in NYC this week – but I don’t think I can coordinate my work schedule enough to go! Bummer!)

Honor Society New York City 7/22

I had been putting off writing this blog for fear of getting too emotional. I even asked Lauren to write the blog for our Honor Society site because I just couldn’t bring myself to write about it – to bring closure to the amazing week I had.

Last year, Lauren asked me to go see some band with her in the city. It was going to be my 100th concert and I was debating even counting it because I had no idea who these guys were, but was just tagging along for the heck of it. (I am concertkatie after all) It was at the knitting factory and there were a handful of girls there earlier than we were. We got tickets the day off and I remember Lauren saying “We can get tickets there – it won’t sell out” I’m not sure what it was, but from their first note I was *hooked*

In February, we witnessed their first SOLD OUT show in New York at Irving Plaza. Now, the Jonas Brothers had a hand in selling this show out and a lot of fans were there only because Jonas might be showing up. (They did.)

Wednesday night they sold out The Blender Theater at Gramercy. While there were hints of “surprises” They sold this one out all on their own. And it’s just amazing to see how much they have grown as a band, we have grown as fans and just everything has changed (for the better) in the past year or so.

When we got there, the line was around the block and around the block and around the block. People were asking what was free because we had to be waiting for something free. Another guy asked if it was a conspiracy of some sort, all these girls waiting outside. And another.. probably my favorite of the night – was telling his wife and daughter that it was a “celebration for all the honor society students” Well, I guess if I were to be grouped into anything – The Honor Society’s not a bad thing lol I was in Honor Society in HS and college!

Finally we were let in, and Lauren and I made a bee-line for the merch area to pre-order their cd. (I had already done it earlier too, but I decided you can never have too many CDs. haha)

It was just like any other concert. At that point. But as the night progressed it was just something so much bigger than that and something I’m not sure if we even fully understand at this point. I tried hard to hold back my tears, I wasn’t upset but just so overwhelmed and proud. And then I broke my chair. Way to bring in some comic relief, universe. I’m not even sure how it happened but the darn thing just unhinged on me in the middle of a song (and luckily I wasn’t sitting in it when it happened!)

There were really no surprises, just the same high energy show we’ve come to know and love.

After the show, we waited for a while for the M&G.; I kind of didn’t want to take a train later than 11:22 (which gets us back at about 1am) even though I was on vacation. (I had napped on the train ride in, at least) And wasn’t sure if we’d be in line longer than that or not.

Lauren said, “Well, I guess we’re not going to be getting hugs” as we were going to go down the stairs to see the guys. Upon spotting us, Andrew stood up, came around the table and gave us both a hug. Mike and Alex also leaned over the table to give me a hug and it just meant so much to me that they remember Lauren and I and acknowledge our support. We were exhausted, but if I had to not get enough sleep – this was the best reason to not be getting it.

Maybe I’m crazy for having done 6 shows in 5 days, but I would do it all over and over again in a heartbeat because there is no one more deserving of my support than Andrew Lee, Michael Bruno, Alexander Noyes and Jason Rosen. They absolutely deserve all the success that is coming to them. And I will be with them every step of the way.

Nobody has to know
Two rebels
Full moon crazy
Where are you now
My own way
Over you
Sing for you
Don’t close the book
Here comes trouble
See u in the dark
