Recap:

Scanning these pics really took me back.  I miss being able to decide to go to a concert 8 hours away in Buffalo on a Wednesdays. ahh, summer break. This show I went with my friend Jess and met up with another friend Victoria who lived in the area.  The tickets were free, you just had to play some games on the local radio station’s website and trade in for them.  I think we ended up with 4 free tickets and gave one to our waitress in addition to her tip because we were telling her about the show and thought she might be interested.  Despite this being a radio station sponsored show, it was almost a full set. I remember being extra excited when Zac did “The Walk” which at that time we might have still been calling “Tightrope” and almost flipped around the rail that I was holding on to because I got so excited lol oops.  Zac also made up a song called “bling bling bling” at some point during this set.

Throwback Thursday – Ben Jelen New Haven, CT 05/10/04

04-05-10

Headliner: Ben Jelen
Opener(s): Michael Greenburg, Lourdes
Cost: $10

Setlist: None

Recap:  This show was at Toad’s Place but they took my ticket from me upon entry so I doctored up this mock one from a ticket that I had won to see Ben at Webster Hall a few days later (but I didn’t end up going)  I was very close for this show and had a pass to meet Ben afterwards.

Where Are They Now:

I have no idea what any of these guys are up to now. Ben had joined another band last I had heard from him – but that was years ago.

Throwback Thursday – UNH Spring Concert 4/30/04

04-04-30

Headliner: Black Eyed Peas
Opener(s): Eve 6, Dropkick Murphys
Cost: $0

Setlist: None

Recap: This was the first spring concert I went to when I was in college. It was held in the gym at school and no cameras were allowed (a bit of a theme going on in 2004 I guess).  The school had to get a variety of artists to appeal to most of the students so this mix was Eve 6, Dropkick Murphys and Black Eyed Peas.  We left before BEP were done with their set.

Where Are They Now:

Eve 6 disbanded shortly after this, but got back together in 2011 with the same line up.

Dropkick Murphy’s are still around and performing.

BEP haven’t released an album in about 5 years – but are coming up on their 20th anniversary so expect something from them this year!

Recap: It was FREEZING at this show. I had on my huge winter coat. I also remember we were sitting in line near the bus and my friend took a ride to Dunkin Donuts to get us some hot chocolate because it was so cold. When she returned, somehow I had been barricade in with the bus instead of out like some sort of caged animal.  I also met up with a TON of online friends at this show! I didn’t bring my camera so I don’t have any photos but someone got this shot of (most?) of us – I’m on the left – also pictured Beckie, Nicole, Erin, Leah, Mary, Becky, Doreen, Kristal, Alex, Erika, Michelle and Jess.

Concert Review: Lee DeWyze at Fairfield Theater

Wednesday night, Lee DeWyze returned to the Fairfield Theater for a show. Opening was My Silent Bravery and Anna Rose.

My Silent Bravery was up first and did a set of 6 songs – POV, To Give with a mash up of Magic!’s Rude, On My Side with a mash up of Wonder wall, Not Necessarily So, a cover of Nelly’s Ride With Me, and ended their set with Amazing. (Gotta love openers who mention all their song names!)

Next up was Anna Rose – who has one of the most amazing voices that I’ve heard in a while. I was incredibly impressed with her set. I guess she tours with Tony Lucca a lot – but Tony always skips CT so I’d never had the chance to see her before.

Then it was time to get Idol spoilers from the Lady sitting behind me. Her husband was texting her as everyone made it through and she felt the need to announce them all. Thanks lady, I wasn’t DVRing to watch when I got home or anything… (I was trying to hard to avoid social media during the show too!)

When Lee took the stage someone yelled out that he was looking fancy and he teased that he could park your car.  Sing you a song and park your car.  He also mentioned that he was drinking on stage and the problem with drinking on stage is that everyone thinks that you’re drunk.  He told us that it was his first drink of the night so no, he wasn’t drunk, and also that if you are drinking on stage if you so much as trip – then everyone thinks you’re drunk.  Later in the set he went to switch guitars and tripped a little and had to laugh.  (The majority of my notes from this show are about him drinking so now I’m going to make it seem like he’s a drunk – he’s not!)  During his Wake Me Up / Stay With Me mashup he got so into it and his drink was near the edge of the stool he had on stage.  And it fell right off the stool. He didn’t even realize it and a few people let him know and he imitated the drink saying it was having so much fun it was going to jump… and then it did.  He went on to talk about one of his new songs that he was going to sing for us called Stone.  Someone asked what it was about and he said “a rock” and went on to explain the song.  He mentioned it had a river in it and everyone started cheering – because venue staff brought him out a new drink.  He didn’t know what was going on and thought we all just really liked rivers.  Then he was talking to the drink saying “Don’t do what your brother did, don’t you do it!” and then said that he was an idiot.

I hadn’t seen Lee live since just after he won Idol so I wasn’t really familiar with too much of his stuff.  I thought he had a really solid set and I loved the covers he threw in – Cecelia, Hallelujah (which he mentioned wasn’t on the setlist – but he makes a list basically telling himself what to do and he decided that he was going to change up what he told himself to do and play it) and the Wake Me Up / Stay With Me mashup – that ended up looping back into Don’t Be Afraid which was the song he had sung before these two which was cool.  And I loved the passion in his voice and how performing some of the songs seemed to just consume him.  It’s a shame that he was playing to a room of only 100 or so people!

Recap: I had a friend who was going to do this run of shows with me and then at the last minute backed out.  I ended up getting a ride to the show with the Connecticut Hanson Street Team Leader at the time, Lisa and her daughter Mandy. We had a lot of fun at the show and slept over in a hotel and were kind of freaked out when we woke up the next morning and it had snowed! Nothing else really sticks out too much about this show… I guess when you’ve been to so many it’s hard to remember all the details of them all!

No photos because no cameras were allowed and even this ticket isn’t mine. I got the tickets through Hanson.net and was just on a list so I had no actual stub – I just asked someone on Hanson.net if they could scan their ticket for me so I’d have something!

Dirrty

Recap:

Due to my street teaming I got to meet the guys before the show. Unfortunately they had no one on hand to take a photo of us with the band which didnt seem fair since that was supposed to be a perk of a M&G!  They were filming the M&G for a VH1 special – but I don’t think any footage actually made it to the show.  That made things REALLY awkward because as if we were not nervous enough, there was a camera thrown in to the mix. The highlight of this show was the encore – which was a cover of Christina Aguilera’s Dirrty!  After the show they gave wristbands out to everyone 21+ (not me!) and they got to hang out with the band and film more for the VH1 show that was going to air.  This was my first of 3 shows in a row – it was somehow perfectly timed on my Spring Break that Hanson decided to do a mini tour in my area.

Throwback Thursday – Hanson Kiss 95.7 3/10/04

Headliner: Hanson
Opener(s): None
Cost: Free

Setlist:

Wheres The Love
Penny and Me

Recap:

Before Hanson played in Hartford that night, they were doing an event at the radio station.  Try as I might, I couldn’t win my way in, so my friend and I showed up anyway in hopes we could get in.  The radio station kept saying no, they wouldn’t let us all in, but in the end, they did.  Hanson did 2 songs and then we got to meet them and get pics with them afterwards.  Zac was more concerned with opening a box of donut holes than he was with talking to me… but whatever.

Unfortunately no flash was allowed at this show and my camera couldn’t handle the amount of zoom and lack of flash so they were almost all blurry.  Here’s some of the better ones!

Throwback Thursday – Frosty The Show, Man

03-12-17

Headliner: Maroon 5
Opener(s): Fefe Dobson, JC Chasez, Jessica Simpson, Mya, Simple Plan
Cost: $42

Setlist:

No setlist

Recap:

The Meadows is typically a summer outdoor venue with a lawn, but for Kiss’s holiday show they closed off the back and had the show just in the pavilion. The line up was pretty good – Fefe Dobson, who I hadn’t seen before but bought her CD after the show, JC from NSYNC, Jessica Simpson, Mya, Simple Plan (who I fell in love with after this show) and Maroon 5 headlined.  Maroon 5 told everyone to come up close for their set because there were more of us than there were security.  I’m sure security just LOVED that, so we all crowded up closer to the front!

Where Are They Now:

Fefe – She has since released several CDs and even played herself on an episode of Degrassi in 2013.
JC – Last summer JC was supposed to perform in Jesus Christ Superstar, but the entire arena tour was canceled just a couple days before it was set to kick off.  He most recently has been filming a movie in Mexico and we are hopeful to hear more from him soon.
Jessica Simpson – seems to be more into her clothing line and being a mom than singing lately, but her name is still out there
Mya – Mya has still been releasing albums – her most recent one having been released Valentine’s Day last year.
Simple Plan – The guys have been working on their next studio album since 2013 – and it is expected to be released sometime in 2015!
Maroon 5 – Still performing and having singles on the radio.
