Fall Out Boy is not a band I typically listen to, outside of singles on the radio, but I figured since they had a new album come out I would check it out.  I made myself a massive playlist of 5 songs to review on a recent road trip to help pass the time (and to make sure I’d have no need to scan through radio to find new stations in every state!)  I have to say that the start of this CD really made me perk up and kept me hyped for the drive (even in the pouring rain)

I think that my favorite song on the CD is “Uma Thurman” and probably because it samples the theme song from The Munsters!

Overall I liked the CD and it’s definitely in the running for the new driving home late from a concert playlist that I’m working on!

She and Him Classics is the 5th album from She & Him – M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel. Released on December 2, 2014 – the album features 13 covers of classic songs recorded with a 20-piece orchestra.  There were only a couple of songs on this album that I recognized by their title so it was no surprise that I didn’t really like the album.  It is very slow and I’m more of an upbeat girl than a ballad girl. Zooey has a really nice voice but maybe I should have done this review in the afternoon instead of at night because it was putting me to sleep.  If you enjoy the classics and like many of the titles on the track list, then I think you’ll enjoy the album.

Wash All Over Me

Before you read any further – Madonna’s latest CD contains songs about sex and drugs. If this is something you’re uncomfortable with you’ll either want to avoid this CD or you’ll have a few songs that you’ll want to skip. I don’t mind the sex songs but I did skip the few that had drug references just because that has no interest to me in my life or music.

This is the 13th studio album from Madonna and was released on March 6, 2015. Six songs had been available since December due to leaks – so Madonna put the pre-order up on iTunes with an immediate 6 song download.  The album includes songs Madonna wrote and produced with the help of Diplo, Avicii and Kanye West.

I found that a lot of the songs I didn’t like the first go-round, started to grow on me a bit more when I listened more.  This is a pop and dance album so it has some good beats.

I’ve been hearing a lot of great things about Paramore lately, so I figured it might be time that I listened to a full album of theirs.  Late last year they released a Deluxe version of their self-titled album.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t get into it.  I was listening to it while doing some work on my computer (which is really how I listen to most of my music – it’s almost always the radio when I am in the car on the way to/from work unless it’s an extended road trip when the radio repeating itself quickly gets on my nerves) and the only songs that got me to perk up even the slightest were Ain’t It Fun and Still Into You – probably because I knew these from the radio.  I also seem to have a hard time getting into female singers (that aren’t 90s pop princesses, I guess) so that might have some to do with it as well.

I’ll probably give this album another chance at a later time to see if I still feel the same – but for right now I’m giving it 3 out of 5 stars.

Music Monday: Pitbull Globalization

Drive You Crazy (feat. Jason Derulo & Juicy J)
Wild Wild Love (feat. GRL)
This Is Not a Drill (feat. Bebe Rexha)
We Are One (Ole Ola) (feat. JLo and Claudia Leitte)

This is the 8th album from Pitbull and was released November 21, 2014.  Pitbull used to be my go-to for listening to in the car on long rides home after shows because it would keep me awake.  Then his past few albums I just wasn’t feeling it anymore so I moved on to other post show song lists.  But I think that Globalization is sounding more like the Pitbull that I really loved – there are several of the songs on this album that sound a lot like I Know You Want Me and Hotel Room Service which are my 2 favorites.  It sounds like Pitbull may be creeping his way back into my post show playlists with this new album 🙂

Title is the debut release from Meghan Trainor that came out January 9, 2015.  If you listen to Top 40 for even a minute, you’ve probably heard either of her singles – “All About That Bass” or “Lips are Movin”  both are incredibly catchy so I was curious to find out how the rest of her album would hold up.  The rest of the album is just as catchy and I am sure will quickly become a guilty pleasure favorite of mine.  I think my favorite songs are Dear Future Husband and Bang Dem Sticks.  Most of the other songs on the album have a similar sound to the two singles – so if you enjoy them at all then I think you would enjoy the full album.

Four is the fourth album from British Boy Band, One Direction.  I’m kind of “over” them – as in – I’m no longer making an effort to go see them in concert (maybe I’ll see them again if they stop doing huge arena shows and come back to CT) and I wasn’t even going to bother with listening to this CD until I needed something to post for Music Monday.

That song that Steal My Girl reminds you of – if you haven’t figured it out yet – Journey’s Faithfully.  Drove me nuts for about half an hour before I was able to figure it out, thought I suppose I’m a bit late to the party on it all anyway.

Favorite track(s) :  Where Do Broken Hearts Go, Girl Almighty

McBusted is the supergroup formed by McFly and Busted.  The album was released in December 2014. I’m vaguely familiar with both groups so I can’t really compare this super group effort to the sound of the bands separately – but I certainly like what I hear.  The CD is a bit on the short side, 40 minutes, but is very good. A lot of the songs ended up stuck in my head after listening and I don’t think they’ll be leaving any time soon. (Especially “Get Over It” – very catchy!)

I was first introduced to The Vamps when they posted a cover of Hanson’s MMMBop – which of course caught my attention.  Their debut album – Meet the Vamps – was released in the US late last year.  The first song on the album, Can We Dance, I’ve heard a lot when watching Disney Channel.  It was nice to listen to a new album but feel welcomed with a song that I was already somewhat familiar with.  Overall this is a pretty solid debut and I enjoy it. I think I’ll be listening to it a lot more in the future and hope they will  tour the US soon so I can see them live!

Music Monday: Bette Midler It’s The Girls

Be My Baby (The Ronettes)
One Fine Day (The Chiffons)
Bei Mir Bist Du Schon (The Andrews Sisters)
Baby It’s You (The Shirelles)
Tell Him (The Exciters)
He’s Sure The Boy I Love (The Crystals)
Mr. Sandman (The Chordettes)
Come and Get These Memories (Martha and the Vandellas)
Too Many Fish In The Sea (The Marvelletes)
Teach Me Tonight (The DeCastro Sisters)
Waterfalls (TLC)
You Can’t Hurry Love (The Surpremes)
Give Him a Great Big Kiss (The Shangri-Las)
Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow (The Shirelles)
It’s the Girl (The Boswell Sisters)

It’s The Girls is the 14th studio album from Bette Midler and her 25th album overall (wow!).  It came out in November of last year and is an album of covers of great girl groups from the past.  This album is really catchy and while I probably couldn’t name any of the original artists (with the exception of TLC), I knew pretty much all of these songs and was able to sing along on the first listen.  If you’re looking for a great re-vamp of some classic girl groups – check out this CD.

(I listened to this album on Spotify in order to write this review. I was not compensated.)
