Music Monday: Lady Gaga Joanne

Diamond Heart
A-Yo
Joanne
John Wayne
Dancin’ in Circles
Perfect Illusion
Million Reasons
Sinner’s Prayer
Come to Mama
Hey Girl
Angel Down
Grigio Girls
Just Another Day

Joanne was one of the CDs that I gifted my Mom with for Christmas and was the only one of the 3 she had requested. (Reviews on the other 2 coming soon, hopefully!)  This CD is a little bit different than what I am used to from Lady Gaga, a bit more stripped down from her usual over the top songs.  My favorite tracks are Perfect Illusion (which reminds me of another song but I can’t place it – Madonna maybe?) A-Yo is a very catchy track as well. Hey Girl with Florence Welch is another great track too.  I think this a pretty decent CD though I’m not much of a Gaga fan, I will tolerate it when it inevitably ends up on in my Mom’s car.

I really love the single that Daya has on the radio “Sit Still, Look Pretty” (and for more than just the Snow White reference)  So I decided for this Music Monday I’d give her full album that came out in October a listen!  The CD starts out with a lot of the songs sounding very much so alike.  There are some standout tracks, but most of them are the ones that are on the radio already.  Overall I found this CD to be a bit of a bust and I think that only certain tracks will make it into any playlists I make, not the entirety of this album.

Music Monday: Stefano Obsession

Obsession
Candle Light
Stay Awhile
Vintage Girl (feat D’madd)
Racin’

Finally, Stefano from American Idol has an EP that has been released! Previously I think he had just been releasing single tracks here and there.  It’s been a long time coming and it’s 5 track EP called “Obsession”.  After hearing the title track of the EP I wasn’t sure if I was into the direction that he was going and maybe I had moved on from my obsession.  But Candle Light is really good and has a bit of a throwback vibe to it, I love it! Unfortunately, the rest of the EP left me feeling the same as the first song.  They’re not bad songs, just not what I tend to spend my time listening to.

Music Monday: Simple Plan Christmas Every Day

screen-shot-2016-12-04-at-8-03-18-pm

Simple Plan is one of my favorite bands so I was pretty excited when they said they had come out with a song for Christmas! They have a really cool lyric video that is made to look like an ugly sweater which is just amazing. The song is super cute about having no school or work on Christmas and how great it would be to have Christmas every day and get presents every day! Definitely super catchy and sounds just what you would expect a Simple Plan Christmas track to sound like.

Music Monday: DNCE

DNCE
Body Moves
Cake By The Ocean
Doctor You
Toothbrush
Blown
Good Day
Almost
Naked
Truthfully
Be Mean
Zoom
Pay My Rent
Unsweet

A couple weeks ago DNCE released their self titled debut full length album.  On first glance, I was pretty psyched with all the short song titles – so much easier to scrapbook setlists when the song titles are short! I’ll be seeing DNCE in early 2017 so of course I’m already thinking about that! I have to say I think my favorite tracks are Blown, Good Day and Naked. This whole CD is a lot of fun.

Just a couple of weeks ago, Kris Allen released his “Somethin’ About Christmas” CD which is available either digitally or a physical copy through his website.  If you purchase a physica CD you’ll also be able to download and listen to it immediately which is pretty cool.  I had mentioned when I went to see Kris that the CD came out and he did a few songs off of it.  There is a pretty great mix here of new Kris songs and some classic favorites as well.  I have to say that “Mommy, Is There More Than Just One Santa Claus” has been stuck in my head almost constantly since I went to see him!  It’s just such a funny song, from the perspective of a little kid asking his Mommy how they can see Santa everywhere they go – even if she does say he’s magic it just doesn’t make sense.  I also love that the cover of the album is an old Christmas photo of Kris and his brother.  Although I have tons and tons of Christmas music and most of it doesn’t get listened to during the holiday season, I know that this album will be on heavy rotation for this holiday season and many to come.  (Even with Hanson’s coming out next year!)  If you love Kris and you love Christmas (Or Kristmas?) you should definitely check out this CD and I do not think you will be disappointed.

What better way to get ready for a trip to Disney then listening to some of my favorite Disney songs reworked to be more jazzy? I was thrilled to get to review the new compilation to listen to while I was packing for my trip! Disney music has been in my family for generations – my grandmother moved closer to Disney and I can remember her always singing me Disney songs growing up when we went to visit her.  Once Upon a Dream was one of her favorites and I am happy that the song is included on this compilation.  Once Upon a Dream and I Wanna Be Like You are probably my top 2 songs from this compilation, although all of them are great.  Kicking the CD off with Everybody Wants To Be A Cat was perfect as when I think “jazz” and “Disney” it is the Aristocats that comes to mind.  Honorable mention go to two more princess songs that I absolutely love –  A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes and Someday My Prince Will Come!

Jamie Cullum

“Disney is the first place many of us hear and really start to appreciate music as children. I’m really seeing that now with my own kids. What is wonderful about all the music is that it is challenging, melodically and lyrically exciting and playful. Having the chance to reinvent one of my favourites from the Aristocats – a proper jazz musical – was great fun. It’s such a brilliantly subversive film with killer music in it. I hope we’ve done it justice!”

Music Monday: Tyrone Wells Covers One

tyrone

Radioactive
You Make My Dreams Come True
She Drives Me Crazy
Lean On
Can’t Get You out of My Head

Covers One is the first in a 2 part EP release from Tyrone Wells released earlier this month. The EP includes covers of Imagine Dragons Radioactive, Hall & Oates You Make My Dreams Come True, Fine Young Cannibals She Drives Me Crazy, Major Lazer Lean On, and Kylie Mingue’s Can’t Get You Out Of My Head like you’ve never heard them before! I love Tyrone’s soothing voice and I could probably use a couple of these songs as lullabies to just sooth me to sleep. (And I don’t mean that as a dis at all!)  Some of these songs may be almost unrecognizable, until you hit the chorus at least, but why be boring and do a complete copy of the original? Tyrone melds these songs to his style and if you love him you will love these.  I can’t wait for Covers Two to be released!

Music Monday: Locksley Fall

screen-shot-2016-10-08-at-9-48-15-am

Most Of All
Nothing
Do The Zombie (I Feel Alive)

Fall is upon us and so is the next piece of Locksley’s EP, Fall.  I had previously reviewed Summer.  I enjoyed this EP as well.  I think I have to say that Nothing is my favorite of the 3 tracks on this one. But Do The Zombie is a fun one as well and a great song for Fall!

Music Monday: Gavin DeGraw Something Worth Saving

Making Love With The Radio On

Something Worth Saving

Something Worth Saving is the latest release from Gavin DeGraw.  The album is relatively short, coming in with only 10 songs and 36 minutes long, but it is a very solid 10 tracks.  There aren’t any that I dislike and I absolutely fell in love with “Kite Like Girl” and “Annalee”  after the first listen.  I wish that Gavin was coming closer on his latest tour so I could check him out because while his albums are great, his live show really gives you the true feel for the songs and while I do love this album I can just imagine how much more it would come alive live!
