Book Review: Working the Mound

Working the Mound is the second book in the Philly Sillys banana-ball inspired romance series by K. Iwancio. There are a few series that are inspired, but I have to say that this one is one of my favorites even if it is set in Philly and I am a New York sports fan.

I received an ARC to review this, but I also ended up purchasing a “PR Box” from her website which had some extra goodies and some surprises to open that went along with some of the chapters in the book which I thought was absolutely awesome, so much so I bought another PR Box from her website for her upcoming Hockey book “Kiss my Assist”. (And she will be at one of my upcoming Banana Ball games so I am hoping to get to chat with her in person and tell her how awesome of an idea it is!)

Back to the book – Tiffiny is the mascot of the Philly Sillys – appropriately a Liberty Bell. Her brother is on the team and ends up recruiting her ex, Ender, to play on the team. Ender and Tiffiny were a thing in High School but he ended up breaking up with her to try and shoot his shot with the popular girl in school. Tiffiny had some unresolved issues with the breakup she has been working through and didn’t want anything to do with Ender anymore. Ender however, had different plans. When he finds out that she’s into monster romance book he tries to win her back by becoming a ‘book boyfriend’. Will Tiffiny let him explain what happened with the popular girl and let him back into her life?

This book took me a while to get through, mostly because I didn’t want to read it too closely to any of my banana ball trips. (Why? I don’t know, the players know about the book(s)!) But I absolutely enjoyed it just as much, if not more so, than the first one in the series and I know K has been doing a lot of research at Phillies and Banana Ball games for future books and I can’t wait to see what else she comes up with! If you’re into romance book and banana ball, or even just baseball, definitely check out these books!

I received a free ARC of this book in order to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.

About the Book

When her high school sweetheart comes crawling back. Literally.

With her degree in theater, Tiffiny Campanaro, had high hopes of being under the lights of Broadway. Instead she’s sweating her ass off in a Liberty Bell costume as the mascot for her brother’s Entertainment League Baseball team, the Philly Sillys. When she thought her life couldn’t get any worse, her brother recruits her ex, the only man she ever loved, to join the team.

Ender Roche was a hotshot pitcher in high school. Sweet, charming, the one guy all the girls wanted. But he only wanted Tiffiny. That was until he let his balls do the thinking for him, dumping her for a chance to try to date the popular girl. Except, he couldn’t go through with it. All he could think about was Tiffiny.

He never stopped thinking about her, even though she black listed him. A freak injury in the minors lands him with an uncertain future until his former teammate encourages him to try out for the ELB team he coaches for. Ender finds himself back in Tiffiny’s orbit and will do everything in his power to win her back. Grovel on his knees, read her dark romance books, anything goes. Will Tiffiny forgive him and admit that Ender is her one true love, or will she forever give him the cold shoulder?
