Banana Ball – Savannah – Party Animals vs Bananas

Initially this weekend I was going to drive up to Syracuse, NY with a pitstop at Cooperstown to see the Tailgaters take on the Firefighters, but when my friends expressed interest in seeing the Party Animals vs Bananas in Savannah, I switched gears and we tracked down tickets.

I flew to Charlotte Thursday morning and my friend and I made our way to Savannah. All of our usual go-to hotels were booked, so we ended up some place new (for me). When walking into the accessible room and seeing the bed came up to my waist, we weren’t quite sure how I was going to get in and out of it. However, once we noticed there were some bugs swarming the room we ended up getting switched to a different room with a more average height bed. We woke up Friday to a floor that was wet from the AC unit. Maintenance came out and immediately clocked what the problem was and fixed it for us and also mentioned if it rained a lot it sometime leaked as well.

Friday night we made our way to the field and I had BBB. Everything seemed fine once we went in at 4:45 but then we were told that due to weather by 5:05 we needed to be off the field. Despite the limited time I managed to get some selfies, talk to Jackson Olson about Dancing with the Stars (go TeamBritTay!) and get Jackson, RAC and KJ to sign my cards for me – which was my main goal since they are nearly impossible to get post game. I only managed to see 2 Party Animals before we were ushered off the field. My friends met me inside and the sky was getting DARK. All the pre-game stuff went off without a hitch but just before first pitch we were told we were in a lightning delay. Then it started to rain. We put on ponchos and when my friend left to go grab an umbrella the rain started coming down sideways. While we were somewhat undercover, it was getting out of control and flooding into the arms of my poncho. My friends ended up moving me to a new seat location and the players came through to say hi while we waited out the storm. 2+ hours later… the game finally happened.

The first pitch that counted was thrown by former Savannah Brave and Atlanta Braves pitching coach Leo Mazzone. Austin Drury had an amazing game and there were 10 strike outs of the Party Animals. Ryan Cox flew out to a fan, Emma Slater and Jackson Olson did a routine for one of his walk ups since she is traveling with him so they can rehearse and Party Animals scored the equalizer point, but it was a 3-2 Bananas win.

Saturday we had drink rails tickets which was a new experience. We figured we would try it out, but I didn’t really like the view or the distance so I am not sure we will go there again unless we absolutely have to. During the game Pharty came by with a water gun and was sneaking up on Coach RAC – so while there was still fun stuff going on out there, it wasn’t for me.

Party Animals did a bull pen game for this one and kept the Bananas scoreless until the 5th. Chase Achuff hit a home run and Ryan Cox got his 700th all-time trick play. In the end, Party Animals pulled off a 3-1 win.

After the game we went to Better than Sex the dessert bar we had found during our last visit. We ended up having the same waiter and tried some new things and they were absolutely delicious. I definitely recommend checking it out if you’re in Savannah!

Sunday was a day game and I had BBB again. I ended up getting way more cards signed by the Party Animals and it wasn’t cut short so I spent a lot of time talking with the players as well. Unfortunately even though the Bananas clinched playoff berth they did not like my idea to just let the Party Animals win.

The Bananas scored in the 1st with a Dan Oberst walk up, the Party Animals tied it up in the 2nd – with an *NSYNC run celly! Bananas scored again in the 4th. Andy Cosgrove fouled out to a fan and no one scored again, with the Bananas coming out victorious 2-1.

After the game we made our way back to Charlotte, I checked into my airport hotel and immediately got into bed for some TV before falling asleep to get back home by Monday afternoon to get back to work!
