A Boyband Symphony

When this concert was first announced for a Monday night in Pittsburgh, it wasn’t really on my radar. But when my company offered some hotel perks if we stayed at a Hilton for 5 nights in 90 days and I had already logged 3 nights in Savannah, I figured if I *needed* to add a trip to my life, and add an April concert to my list, then a Boyband Symphony would be the winner. Plus, it didn’t look like anything was going to be added closer to me than this one (though I wouldn’t be surprised if it is added now – but I’ll for sure go again!) I did end up taking a peak at the setlist before going and while it gave me an idea of what they were going to sing, it in no way prepared me for how awesome the show was going to be.
The “boyband” was made up of Erik from O-Town, Jeff from 98 Degrees and Chris from *NSYNC and the idea came about when they were doing the Boyband Christmas shows that I unfortunately didn’t get to attend because the show I had tickets to ended up getting canceled. The setlist consists of songs from the 3 band member’s boybands as well as Backstreet Boys as well as Boyz II Men to more fully round out the ’90s boyband representation.
Jeff did encourage everyone to stand and dance and sing a long after the first song and they did talk and joke around a bit more during the songs than I was expecting to thinking that everything would have been a bit more “scripted” with the orchestra behind them. Erik ended up busting out some of his *NSYNC moves from the Pop2000 tour and Chris kept making comments about less dancing from them on stage, but Erik wouldn’t let up and eventually got Chris to join in during the encore.
After the show we had a chance to go to the VIP M&G and say hi to Chris, Jeff and Erik and get a professional photo taken! I got to chat with Erik a bit about how fun the show was and how weird it was to be screaming for the orchestra, but he said that he thought the orchestra really liked that part of it since it isn’t the usual for them. And then when we walked out of the hall… it was.. snowing?
