Book Review: Stevie Nicks Visions, Dreams & Rumors

I went to see Stevie Nicks in concert a few years back and really enjoyed myself so when I saw that there was a biography of hers available for reading, I jumped at the chance to check it out.  The book is broken up into 4 parts and has 3 sections of pictures! (Always my favorite part.)  One really cool feature with this book is that it has a digital timeline of Stevie’s life included as a link. I had never seen something like this before, and it was very interactive and interesting to look through to see the various photos and videos that were included- the way of the future now that the ebook pulled the page right up on my computer to browse through.

Sometimes the chapter mentions what it was going to be about before it started and other times it sort of recapped what happened in the chapter – since I sometimes have a tendency to skim longer biographies at times, I liked this touch.  A lot of the information also came from interviews from other publications, which when I was reading some other reviews of the books people said they didn’t like that but I always like when actual quotes are included, in a biography it’s the closest you can really get to be being an autobiography when you have actual quotes from the artist the book is about.

I absolutely loved the pictures included – Stevie with a beehive as a teenager? Some great shots from shows too are included.

About the Book

Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks is a musical visionary, a poet and an enduring style icon with a truly phenomenal life story. The Omnibus enhanced Stevie Nicks: Dreams, Visions & Rumours is a celebratory examination of this tale, tracing Stevie’s life from her Arizona childhood, the magic moment when she joined Fleetwood Mac and the hedonistic turbulence that followed.

Crowned ‘The Reigning Queen of Rock And Roll’ by Rolling Stone, and with gold and platinum solo albums to her credit, Stevie Nicks outlives her defining Fleetwood Mac image. Hers is a story of hard work, self-belief and a fierce devotion to musical creativity. Researched through exclusive interviews with many of Stevie’s close associates and collaborators, Stevie Nicks: Visions, Dreams & Rumours is a revealing and inspiring portrait of one of rock’s great women.

Music Monday: Kris Allen Letting You In Acoustic

Faster Shoes (acoustic)
Move (acoustic)
If We Keep Doing Nothing (acoustic)
Venice (acoustic)
Time Will Come (acoustic)

Kris Allen released an acoustic performance EP of some of the tracks from his latest album, Letting You In.  The great thing about Kris is that a lot of his songs are amazing full band but are just on another level acoustic.  The start of this EP, Faster Shoes, has barely any instruments with it and Kris just sounds out of this world on it.  It helps that he did some of my favorite songs on this EP. There’s also a new track – Venice.  Honestly this EP is one of the greatest releases I have heard in a while and if you’re a Kris fan you have to check it out.

Product Review: Julio’s Adventures World Travel Tracker Map

I have been seeing these World Travel maps where you scratch off where you have been online for quite some time and had been debating getting one.  I think my main issue was debating getting one of just the US states or one that had all of the world countries as well.  I haven’t been to all that many countries.  And I haven’t really been to all that many states yet, either.  But when Julio’s approached me with the offer to review the World Travel map, it felt serendipitous.  I have opted to use this map for keeping track of where I have seen Hanson so the countries are accurate (I’ve only ever been out of the country to Canada for a non Hanson trip – but have seen Hanson there 3 times) there are a few more states I have been to, I just haven’t seen a concert there! I am sure in time that I will get to these repeat states for Hanson shows.  I will also be adding at least 2 countries (Australia and New Zealand) and at least 2 states (Illinois and Michigan) to the list after the Middle of Everywhere World Tour ends.  Will I be able to add any more states for the upcoming Finally It’s Christmas Tour? Well, we’ll just have to see.

Anyway… the map comes rolled up in a poster tube and everything is covered with gold that you need to scratch off to show the color underneath to mark that you have been there.  The map comes with 2 tools – a little scratcher and appropriately enough, a guitar pick. The poster is 17 x 24 and I thought pretty decently sized.  I opted to not use the guitar pick to scratch but only the tool as that seemed to have more precision with scratching and a lot of these New England states are tiny!  It also comes with some flag pins that you can use to mark things as well. Since I haven’t hung this anywhere just yet (it is currently on the dining room table as I continue to scratch the locations of my travels) I have not yet used these.

This is a great gift for anyone who is a world traveler and you don’t otherwise know what to get them! It will probably keep them busy for hours recollecting all the places that they have been and carefully scratching them all off on to the map to keep track!

Product Review: Fabric Reversible Sequin Pillow Case 16×16

I absolutely love these reversible sequin pillows and can’t help myself but to play with them whenever I see them in the store, so I am pretty excited that I now have one of all my own to play with whenever I like!  This is a throw pillow cover that measures 16×16 (I still need to get a pillow to fit inside of it) and has Blue & Rose sequins on the front side and a soft suede fabric on the back.  It is so fun and easy to just rub your hand over the sequins and change the color in any design you wish – stripes, change the entire thing, waves, letters, etc.  Occasionally some of the sequins do not flip as well as others, so I had to go in and change those one by one to the desired color but overall the movement of the sequins was free and simple and I absolutely love this pillow and everything about it, it reminds of of what I imagine a mermaids tail to look like up close.

Book Review: Art Deco Interiors

I love checking out books that are related to architecture and decorating. They are kind of adult picture books.  This book was no exception, a lot of fun checking out all the Art Deco Interior designs featured in this book. A lot of great colors and interesting living spaces are included in this book.  Some were amazing, like Plate 12. Pierre Chareau’s Dressing room home of Mrs R which had a library up above on the wall complete with a ladder that went across the wall so you could reach the books. I’m not sure that this is something I’d actually ever use, but man would it look cool in any house.  Some of the designs are simple, some more complex and “busy”  All of them pretty cool and a pleasure to flip through/
