Book Review: Dare Me

Dare Me was a little bit tough for me to read.  The book starts out with an epilogue of one of our main characters, Saige Phillips, hearing a gun shot and running to the barn to find that her father had killed himself on her 13th birthday.  I just lost my Dad a couple of months ago and while it was not quite as violent as what happened to Saige, her feeling held back and having dreams/nightmares/memories of her Dad throughout the book made me have to stop a few times throughout to compose myself.  I don’t usually find myself crying reading a romance novel, but hey, there’s a first time for everything.

The rest of the book picks up with Saige out of college and getting a job as an interior designer at a company that sells private jets.  She becomes close with her core group of coworkers and they ask her out for happy hour on a Friday night that results in a game of Truth or Dare.  The boss, Holt Hamilton, who is super hot ends up at the bar as well and when Saige’s turn comes around, they dare her to ask him out for drinks.  Saige can’t resist a dare so she asks him – and he says YES!

Their whirlwind romance begins – but Saige seems determined to keep Holt at a distance and not open up her heard again.  Also –  Holt seems to make a reference to something about her ‘last name’ that stuck with me throughout the rest of the story.  A bit of a mystery – and there are some conversations that are overheard where I started to piece things together.  I won’t give too much away, as it does end up being a major plot point near the end of the book – but pay attention to all the details and see if you can figure it out early too.

I really liked this book and the author’s writing style – and I’m in luck – this is the first book in a series! Hopefully I’ll be able to snag the others on NetGalley as well.  I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.
