Try It Tuesday: Stencil #2

img_20160904_141124

This project actually started out as something different in my head and I’m not sure that I could have planned it to go better than it did.  My plan was to create a Hanson symbol out of stencil/thin plastic material and then use my spray inks to make a sort of tie dye / splash red and blue color scheme for the Alive @ Five concert page I was putting together.  I decided the spray ink would make too much of a mess inside and was too lazy to bring the supplies outside so instead I used ink.  I made the green one first for the Hop Jam (although I’m not sure it actually ended being used for photos from the Hop Jam!) and then the red and blue one for Alive @ Five.  Although it came out so cool I almost just wanted to hang it on my wall and not use it as a scrapbook page at all!  This actually made me think of a couple of other projects to do related to this stencil so we will see what happens with that – will it work out and become a future blog post?

Music Monday: Locksley Fall

Most Of All
Nothing
Do The Zombie (I Feel Alive)

Fall is upon us and so is the next piece of Locksley’s EP, Fall.  I had previously reviewed Summer.  I enjoyed this EP as well.  I think I have to say that Nothing is my favorite of the 3 tracks on this one. But Do The Zombie is a fun one as well and a great song for Fall!

Book Review: The Night The Stars Went Out

starswentoutThe Night The Stars Went Out is about Alien, who makes sure that the stars shine bright.  He has no friends because he is always so busy shining the stars!  That is until one night when the stars went out! In order to fix them, he needed to go to Earth for a special star varnish.  While on Earth he realized Aliens float!  He was assisted by a boy named George who helped him find the varnish and then asked him to play.  Even though he knew he needed to get back to work – he decided he’d take the time to play anyway.  Would this be the right choice? You’ll have to read the book to see!

Super cute story, super colorful illustrations that I think I enjoyed more than the story itself!

I received a free e-copy of this book in order  to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.

About the Book

Alien was the star controller for the entire galaxy, which was a big job for a very little alien. One night something disastrous happens, and Alien faces the biggest problem of his life. Will Alien be able to fix the stars? With a focus on friendship and problem solving, this picture book is a treat for everyone.
For ages 4-7.

This was one of the first races I signed up for, but it was supposed to be done in September for Hobbit Day on September 22nd! This was after I realized that Yes.Fit had a couple of Hobbit races that I missed out on that had to get closed early before I had found out about the site.

Try It Tuesday: Stencil

With Hanson’s Hop Jam becoming an annual event and the logo of it not seeming to change, I decided that instead of getting super annoyed with cutting it out of paper and needing to piece it back together again (I hate puzzles) I would try my hand at making a stencil of it.  That way I could cut it once and then use it for every year or even every page if I wanted to!  I did have a bit of an issue with it coming up when I was stamping the ink down but for my first stencil attempt.

Something Worth Saving

Something Worth Saving is the latest release from Gavin DeGraw.  The album is relatively short, coming in with only 10 songs and 36 minutes long, but it is a very solid 10 tracks.  There aren’t any that I dislike and I absolutely fell in love with “Kite Like Girl” and “Annalee”  after the first listen.  I wish that Gavin was coming closer on his latest tour so I could check him out because while his albums are great, his live show really gives you the true feel for the songs and while I do love this album I can just imagine how much more it would come alive live!
