Product Review: Vinyl Disorder

I know that you have seen those little stick figure families on the back of cars when you’ve been driving, or maybe you’ve even seen them for sale in stores.  Well, Vinyl Disorder takes the car decal stickers to the next level.  They offer a variety of family stickers that AREN’T stick figures.   Can we say – Star Wars family? (Among many, many others!)

Recently they gave me the chance to make my own custom car stickers to represent MY family.  Since basically it is just me, I went for a Treble Clef in ORANGE!  They sent me enough to represent me, my mom, dad, and brothers but I opted to just use 2 of them on my car.

Typically these stickers go on the back window of the car, but yet again I had to be different and decided to put them on the side windows of my Rav.  I was able to customize them to my favorite color, orange, but they have a huge amount of colors to choose from so you won’t have a problem finding something to either match your car or your family.

When they arrive, be sure to read the application tips!

1. Preparation
To make sure the layers all adhere correctly, lay the decal on a flat surface and rub it down with a hard squeegee or credit card. Your decal is made of 3 layers: (1) the top layer or transfer tape (2) the vinyl sticker middle layer (3) the bottom layer or the wax paper

2. Position Your Letters
Clean and dry the desired areas. Stickers will stick best to clean smooth surfaces. Position your decal on your object, centering the letters, and securing it with masking tape or painters tape. Apple the tape to the middle section and to the top of each corner. The tape will act as a hinge for the project.

3. Remove the backing
Remove the paper backing slowly at 45 degrees making sure the sticker stays adhered to the top layer transfer tape. If it wants to stick to the paper backing, slowly manipulate the backing or use your squeegee again on the image to help the vinyl stick to the top layer.

4. Apply to Surface
Use a hard edged object like a Squeegee or credit card to make sure the entire sticker is fully adhered to the surface. Work from the center out on both sides until you have gone over the entire surface. If your surface has a heavy texture, use your finger tips to really get the material in the grooves.

5. Peel Off Transfer Tape
Slowly remove the transfer tape again at a 45 degree angle. Making sure no part of the sticker remains on the transfer tape. if it does take your squeegee and rub that part back down. Keep your hand close to where the transfer tape is coming off the surface to keep appropriate tension.

6. You’re Done!
That’s it!

(Removal: To remove just use a hair dryer or heat gun to heat the vinyl to soften it making it easier to peel off!)

I put mine in the inside of the window – which I probably should have specified when ordering because they are kind of backwards now. oops.

Sorry for the less than stellar photo here – with the window tint it is a bit hard to see and I was too cold to open the garage door all the way to let in any natural light.  Ill try to snap a better photo one day when the car is outside in the bright sun!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free usingTomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

The Voice – FINALE!

The Voice started out with a heart breaking version of Hallelujiah where all the coaches and contestants sang holding one of the victims names from the Newtown shooting.  I don’t think it really hit just how many 27 is, until we saw them all standing there with the names.

Nicholas – Great Balls of Fire  / Let Me Stand Next To Your FIre – Great way to kick off the show! Great to see him play the piano for a little bit and then get up and dance and command the stage.  Love him.

Cassadee – Over You – Cassadee with a repeat of Miranda’s Over You.  She’s ok but has yet to grow on me.  Unfortunately, her large fan base she had before the show disagrees with me and she just may win the thing. (let’s hope not)

Terry & Blake – Dude Looks Like a Lady – I didn’t even recognize that Adam was the “familiar face on the guitar” for a little bit when he first came out! Fortunately I recognized some of the tattoos!  That was a lot of fun!

Nicholas – Lean On Me – My mom prefers this Nicholas to his first song.

Terry – Broken Wings – Seemed like there were problems in the beginning of the song, but he powered through it like a champ.

Cassadee & Blake – Steve McQueen – not a fan.

Terry – I Want To Know What Love Is – I didnt like it this time as much as I did the first time he sang it.  Blake thinks the opposite. LOL

Nicholas & CeeLo – Play That Funky Music – This is perfect.  Wait I spoke too soon! Little Cee Lo!!! More than perfect.

Cassadee – Cry – more country. yay. /sarcasm

Honestly as long as Cassadee doesn’t win, I’ll call it a win.  Though I’d prefer Nicholas over Terry.

There seems to be some backlash among Cassadee fans and those of us who don’t think she should win just because she has a fan base.  Well, I don’t think she shouldn’t win SIMPLY because she already has a fan base.  I don’t think she should win because in my opinion, the other 2 have a better voice.  The other 2 contestants I am more likely to listen to after the show ends than her.  It is unfortunate that it is not an even playing field for Terry and Nicholas.  I do hope I am wrong and she doesn’t win… but based on tweets and likes on statuses and the like… her numbers are leaps and bounds ahead of the other two.

I really dont think that the finale needed to be an hour with the performances of past contestants without the finalists. I honestly didnt even remember 90% of the past contestants.  I liked the groups with the finalists though, that was a nice touch.

In theory, the finale could have been 5 minutes… an hour would have been fine.  2 is a bit much.

(ps maybe im biased but did Cassadee sing with WAY more people than Terry or Nicholas? I wish I kept track to go back and figure it out without just relying on my memory…)

In 3rd place – Nicholas

Now we know Blake repeats his win, regardless of who wins.

And, surprise, surprise! Cassadee wins.

I’d like the last 3 years of my life back that I spent watching the show this season…

Book Review: Far From Over

I’ll be honest. I only decided to check out this book to see if they mentioned the riots at the South Street Seaport show that Drake was supposed to do with Hanson.  They did.  (I was there) I did read the whole book and it was a lot more interesting  than I was expecting.

Obviously being a fan of Degrassi I knew that Drake got his start playing Jimmy on the show and that Jimmy was also an aspiring rapper. What I didn’t know was that Drake didn’t want the character to rap because he didn’t want his side project to collide with the character, but the creators convinced him to do it.

It seems that Drake is big and bad now, but I didn’t realize all the struggles and drama he had to go through to get to where he is.  There are also chapters about how he gives back – something that is missing in the headlines for most rappers.

There is also a lot of talk about social media and how MySpace helped Drake form a fan base in the beginning and also how twitter is a blessing and a curse – he can  get information out to a lot of people at once simply by sending a tweet – but he can get some backlash as well just as quickly.

This is definitely an interesting read if you are at all familiar with Drake or want to know more about him. It is very well written and contains a ton of information (and yes, even a mention of Hanson.)

I received a free e-copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley in order to write this review.  I was not otherwise compensated.

About the Book

The first biography of superstar rapper Drake

At a time when album sales were plummeting, Drake’s 2010 debut album, Thank Me Later, went platinum, hit number one on the Billboard 200 chart, and spawned numerous Top 10 hits including “Over,” “Best I Ever Had,” and “Find Your Love.” His sophomore release, Take Care, also debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, went platinum, and has been downloaded at a record pace.

In Far From Over, award-winning writer and hip hop expert Dalton Higgins examines the life of Aubrey Drake Graham, whose path to superstardom has been anything but typical. Raised in Toronto’s upscale Forest Hill neighbourhood by his Jewish mother, the multi-talented entertainer first made a name for himself as an actor on the popular teen dramaDegrassi: The Next Generation before becoming one of the world’s most successful rappers. Featuring original interviews, Far From Over reveals the life story of a musician and actor whose star will only continue to rise.

XFactor – FINALE!

XFactor opened up with all the finalists singing “You Are Not Alone” by Michael Jackson dressed all in white to honor the victims of the Newtown shooting.  Very well done.

Carly Rose – Feeling Good – Such a difference hearing this now versus her audition so many months ago!

Tate – Anything Goes – I really have trouble finding things to say about his performances because they are just not my thing in the slightest.

Fifth Harmony – Anything Can Happen – I cant help but laugh about how they  are probably going to come in 3rd and then be the new one direction. I did like this performance a lot though – hey, maybe they can come in 2nd? Anything can happen.

Carly Rose – How Do I Live – I think that LeAnn was supposed to be surprise, but Carly tweeted about it and they were going back and forth so that kind of gave it away.  I also kind of wonder if she sang it extra horribly to make Carly sound that much better because I don’t know WTF she was doing…

Tate – Pontoon – Little Big Town joined Tate for this performance.

Fifth Harmony – Give Your Heart a Break – Surprise surprise, Demi is the guest performer with them. (The cut to her before the commercial break totally gave it away)   I liked their first performance better.  I’m not really sure I liked any of these “duets” or whatever you want to call them.

Carly Rose – Hallelujah – I really think this song is so completely played out, especially in singing competitions – but Carly did a great job.  Just kind of wish she sang something else.

Tate – Tomorrow – All I know is. If he wins. I will cry. (And not in a good way)

Fifth Harmony – Let It Be – Another great performance from fifth harmony.

I really would LOVE for it to be – Carly Rose #1, Fifth Harmony #2, Tate #3.  Except people seem to like Tate and I just don’t hear it!

The entrance of the top 3 seemed a bit weird. I don’t know if they did that last season because I stopped watching after Rachel got kicked off.  It also seemed like they didn’t do a dress rehearsal since one of the Fifth Harmony girls was walking, singing and tugging her skirt down lower!

Each of the final 3 did a Christmas song… and we got to see some cute clips of the judges.

Then we found out who came in 3rd – Fifth Harmony! (So they truly are the female One Direction!)  Apparently people are getting annoyed (already!) with the comparisons – but um, they are there, aren’t they?  Put together for the show. Come in 3rd.  We’ll see how the success compares after the show.

Then we got performances from 2 artists that I totally played out earlier this month on my road trip – Pitbull and One Direction!

Our top 2… Carly and Tate sang “The Climb” together…

and I wondered if the show would ever end.

ANDDDD I wasted another season on this show! Tate wins!

Hopefully Carly will go on to have an AMAZING career.  She deserves it!

(And I think I am done with The Voice and XFactor. Imma stick with Idol. Those are my people.)

Eric Hutchinson at Ridgefield Playhouse

Before this concert, I didn’t know much about Eric.  A few of my twitter friends raved about him though, so when I saw that one of the local radio stations was holding a contest to see him I decided to enter and check him out if I won.  Of course, I ended up winning.  Then Friday we had the terrible tragedy in Connecticut and Sunday night I went back and forth on whether or not I should go but ultimately decided it would probably do me good to go out and have fun.

Before the show started, there was announcement on the PA and we had a moment of silence for the victims from Newtown.

The opening act for the evening was Jessie Payo.  She came out and said that she wasn’t sure how to perform for us in a time like this and wasn’t sure she should perform but ultimately decided as a performer it was her job to take us away for a little bit and entertain us and she hoped she could do that.   She has a great voice and I really liked her set.  She was funny too, teasing that she’d love to meet us after her set but that we should know that she is smaller than she appears and that she isn’t playing a guitar, but a ukelele and if we looked for Dora the Explorer in a polka dot dress we’d find her.

Then there was some sound checking going on and Eric took the stage and the piano.  As his set went on, I decided that my friends who raved about him were absolutely right and that I absolutely made the right decision to go to the show.(Even though I somehow always end up with the rudest people EVER behind me here! How I got water (i hope) splashed on my neck when no one was directly behind me, I don’t know.  Why people think they can talk through the openers set and that is ok, I don’t know.  Why people think it is ok to kick the person in front of thems seat over and over throughout the whole set, I don’t know.)  I also recognized his first song and last song – though I’m not sure from where or why.

Eric had a lot of great stories about the songs and how they came about – one in particular that he said he wrote in NYC in his new apartment and that his neighbor downstairs complained to the landlord and the landlord said that he couldn’t have band practice, he said he wasn’t.  The landlord said it sounded like someone was getting guitar lessons and he said – no, that’s just me.  And that it sounded like a full drumset was being played – and he said no – the more I like a song the more I tap my foot, and I am just THAT good that I sound like a full drum set.  And the landlord said – well what about the lady singing? And Eric said – no – that’s me too.  haha.  (He ended up giving the neighbor downstairs a copy of the new album when it was done and a not so nice note.)

He also had another story about how Snoop has sold the rights to the song “Drop Its Like Its Hot” to Hot Pockets and it will be used in commercials. He said that he pitched to Red Lobster and that his song “Watch You Watch Him” has been rewritten for use in their commercials as “Watch You Watch Shrimp” and went on to sing a few (hilarious) verses of it.

After he left the stage everyone gave him a standing ovation.  And the moment I knew I loved him? When he came back out and asked that we continue standing and then sang a “hit song he wrote a few years back” and broke into I WANT IT THAT WAY.  Apparently exactly what I needed was a huge boyband sing a long with everyone in the theater.

His tour is over now – but definitely check him out on his next tour if you get the chance – I highly recommend him!

Book Review: Nobody Has To Know

Being on a Thriller book kick lately, I knew that I had to check out Nobody Has To Know by Frank Nappi as soon as I read it was a thriller.  The fact that it shares its name with one of my favorite Honor Society songs didn’t hurt either.

The book is about Cameron (Cam), who is a high school teacher. He is one of those popular “cool” teachers that all the students love (you know the ones I mean – the one that the girls all have secret crushes on!) He has a wonderful girlfriend, Hayley but it seems like their relationship is not going as well as they would have liked anymore.

Cam ends up meeting up with one of his high school students several times which leads his life in a direction that he probably was not wanting to go in.

Cam ends up being blackmailed – someone knows his secret and if he doesn’t meet the persons demands – they will tell! Cam ends up getting wrapped up in a bunch of lies and tricks by the blackmailer and then finds out that his soon to be wife is now wrapped up in all this as well!

Of course, it is a thriller and things are not always what they seem…  I won’t tell you much more than that though because I don’t want to give anything away and I think that you should check this book out for yourself! (I also liked the mention of Cam telling one of his students to read The Legend of Mickey Tussler – this book is written by the same author and I will be reviewing it in January – so stay tuned for that!)

I ended up reading this book while stuck in the dark during Hurricane Sandy just before Halloween.  While you can read it any time, it was probably the perfect choice for me to be reading in a pitch black room with only the glow of the Nook!

I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review. I was not otherwise compensated and all opinions are my own.

Book Review: Not Planning On You

Not Planning On You is the followup book to Weekends Required, although the character set is different so you can probably read them out of order if you had to.

Not Planning On You follows Suzy Denton (Claire’s coworker and BFF) and her budding relationship with Grayson, who’s company Memicon has just done a merger with Claire’s now husband Jason’s Danvers company.

Gray had been into Suzy since they met in the first book when Jason and Gray were out to dinner and bumped into Suzy and Claire at the restaurant.

Suzy had just been going through a bad breakup where she found out that her fiance that she had been dating since college was cheating on her.  She didn’t really have much faith in men at that point and really didn’t want to get involved with someone like Gray.

Suzy ends up getting in an accident and Gray refuses to let her recover anywhere other than his house. (The broken ankle she suffers would be hard to deal with at her condo, which has stairs.)  Over the time Suzy is recovering, she slowly begins to let down her guard and begins to fall in love with Gray.

Then one day his phone is buzzing out of control – messages are from someone else calling him lover!  Is this relationship going to be like her previous where she found out about the cheating via texts?

Gray tries to convince her that it is nothing, just a crazy stalker ex.  But is it more than that?  Can their newly blossoming relationship handle this stress?

I think I liked this book a bit more than Weekends, mainly because it had less Fifty Shades similarities (boss/assistant) even though the main character WAS named Gray…  These are fun easy to read stories with likable characters.  (I have to wonder if the next book will be about Gray’s brother hooking up with Suzy’s sister – I think something is going on there!)

I received a free e-copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. I was not otherwise compensated and all opinions are my own.

About the Book

From the New York Times bestselling author of Weekends Required

A Danvers Novel

Suzy Denton thought she had it all: a great job as an event planner for Danvers International and a committed relationship to her high school sweetheart…

But now her life has gone to hell in a hand-basket. Not only did she discover her fiancé cheating, but a recent corporate merger is making her job very difficult—mostly due to Grayson Merimon, wealthy CEO. Gray is a man who goes after what he wants. And, after their first meeting, he wants Suzy.

Even though he looks like every fantasy she’s ever had, Suzy is wary of the powerful businessman. She likes her newfound independence, even if her best friend thinks it’s an excuse not to risk her heart again. Besides, she doesn’t think Gray could ever be interested in a relationship with someone like her. When he calls her bluff, Suzy agrees to one night together.

But when circumstances continue to throw them together—and with Gray determined to show her that two opposites can be a perfect fit—Suzy realizes that she might just have found the one man who can give her what she always needed….

Book Review: Weekends Required

Weekends Required is about Claire Walters and her boss, Jason Danvers.  When Claire is asked by Jason to work for the weekend and stay at his friend’s place, she scrambles to figure out what to do with her weekend job – jumping out of cakes.    Jason tells her that he is going out to dinner with his friend and that she can have the night off, she decides to try and do both jobs.

Except that when she jumps out of the cake at a bachelor party, she is shocked to see Jason and his friend staring back at her.

This causes a shift in the relationship between Claire and Jason as sparks start to fly.  Claire doesn’t want anything to happen because he is her boss, but at the same time, agrees with her best friend Suzy – he does have hot buns.

Weekends quickly become the requirement with Claire and Jason, and she isn’t sure what to do now that she doesn’t have the added income of her second job to help pay the medical bills for her sick mother.

Jason decides to take control – which scares Claire and pushes her farther away.  After growing up with an abusive father, the last thing she wants is a man to try and take control of her life when she is perfectly capable of doing things on her own.

While the book kept me interested, I couldn’t help but continue to compare it to Fifty Shades (though it was a bit more scaled down version of it).  I quickly figured out that Claire’s 2nd job was going to be at Harold’s bachelor party, but the back and forth of that set up seemed to go on for chapters.  While predictable, I did like reading it and will be reading the next book- Not Planning On You shortly to find out what ends up happening with Claire and Jason. (I won’t give much more away – but their relationship is all over the place in this book!)

I received a free e-copy of the book from the publisher through NetGalley in order to write this review. I was not otherwise compensated.

No Doubt’s “Push and Shove” was their first release in over 10 years, having taken a bit of a hiatus while Gwen pursued her solo career.  I used to love Tragic Kingdom back when I was in middle / high school, so I am glad that Push and Shove does still have some of that sound to it.  I didn’t really follow them any more when Return to Saturn came out – at that point I had already moved on to all things boybands. The same for Rock Steady, which was released in 2001.

I think that this is a really solid release from No Doubt, and has dragged me back in.  I’d love to see them on tour!  These songs are fun and up beat and I’d love to see Gwen on stage in person!
