Concert Essentials

Here is a list of things that I recommend you have in your purse (or car, or somewhere nearby) when heading out to a concert!

-Ear Plugs – Whether you have a nice pair of earplugs or just 50cent foam disposable ones, make sure that you have them on you.  The music might not sound loud at the show, but you’ll be regretting not wearing them when your ears are buzzing the whole way home! (And maybe even for a couple of days later)

-Extra Memory Card – You never know when you are going to fill your card or forget your card in your computer after uploading photos (I speak from experience)  Make sure you have an extra memory card on you, just in case! Even if it is a cheap card with limited memory just to have as backup.

-Extra Camera Battery – You never can know when your camera is going to die.  Charge up an extra battery and have it handy.  Remember to charge it again if it has been sitting in your purse for a while so you are not greeted with a second dead battery when you go to use it!

-Sharpie – I like to have a sharpie (or two or three) because you just might bump into one of your favorite artists after the show and want to get a signature! They are not always armed with a sharpie and will be impressed if you hand over one with the item you’d like to get signed!

-Cash – A lot of bands have credit card machines on tour with them, but some venues (especially smaller clubs) often can’t get a good enough signal to actually transmit out to process orders.  Make sure you have some extra cash on you if you want to buy merch and it just might let you cut everyone with credit cards who are waiting in line for a possible signal to come through!

Experience Boston Tourism: The Must-See Sights You'll Love

I live fairly close to Boston and travel there every couple of years for a concert or ball game and try to fit in as much site seeing as I can.  It has gotten to the point where I am not sure what other things to check out and always end up hitting the same old places – namely Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall. I will be hitting up Boston again in October for a Hanson show and have been looking for some new places to possibly check out in the afternoon before the show.

Fortunately for me, Deborah Bradley has put together a great e-book for anyone who is looking to head to Boston for a trip! In addition to listing some of the spots I have already checked out, the book has given me a few ideas on other places I can look into checking out – especially museums since in October we can’t be sure what the weather will be like.  Best of all – it has a TON of information on The T, the public transportation of Boston.

This e-book is free for anyone who signs up for the Boston Tourism Made Easy – Boston Event Guide Newsletter mailing list at http://www.boston-tourism-made-easy.com/boston-travel-guide.html

Secrets to Choosing a Family Vacation That Everyone Will Enjoy!

Choosing where to go on a family vacation is not easy.  You need something that will entertain everyone, or else there might be melt downs!  When you have more than one child with different ideas of “fun”, it’s not easy.  I remember when I was young our parents would ask us all where we wanted to go or what we’d like to do on vacation and then would try and find a spot that would satisfy what everyone was looking for in the vacation.  One year I said that I wanted to go Whale Watching.  I don’t remember what my brothers had said they wanted to do but we ended up taking a trip to Cape May. NJ and the trip has now because infamous because of my brother (and like 90% of the people we were with) getting sick on the boat when we went out to go Whale Watching.  Of course, after that, my brother’s never trusted my input for vacations!

The “Secrets to Choosing a Family Vacation That Everyone Will Enjoy” is an ebook by Melanie Fine which helps families choose a vacation that won’t just be “good”, but that will be great and one that the whole family will have fun talking about and remembering for years to come.

The ebook is FREE for anyone who signs up for for Vacation Ideas For You Newsletter.  If you have already had your vacation for this year – it is never too early to start planning for next year!  Head on over to http://www.excellent-vacation-ideas.com/family-vacation-planning.html to sign up for your free copy 🙂

Book Review: Neiko’s Five Land Adventure by Amanda Taylor

Neiko’s Five Land Adventure is full of, you guessed it, adventure.  I can see anyone who does RPG or the like really getting in to this book.  The book starts out with a couple of maps.  For some reason, maps in books always lead me to panic that this means following along with the story will be too difficult without referring back to the map (which is not all that easy to do on a Nook, but a bit easier with a physical copy of the book) However, it really was not that big of an issue with this book.

Neiko leads a double life – Captain by night, school girl by day – so in that aspect I could relate to her. Although I am an engineer by day and blogger and concert-goer by night so it is not exactly the same – but the problems she had balancing time with her family and doing everything else that needed to be done definitely hit home – although there is no one who are ganging up on me if I can’t make it to a concert or two. (And that’s a good thing!)

It was a lot of fun and very interesting to escape to this different world for a couple of nights while I was reading the book.  It also has photos inserted in between chapters and pages so it is easier to picture a bit of what this world should look like.

About the Book

The Indians and the Crackedskulls are locked in the turmoil of war.
Neiko a warrior with the glistening title of ”the Chosen One” finds herself facing a collection of enemies. Her archenemies, Raven and Bloodhawk, have come up with a scheme to destroy her reputation with the help of a phony Indian chieftain.
However, during the unfolding of their plan, Neiko finds out that a land she thought she had only imagined is actually real – and more terrifying – than she ever imagined. It turns out that Ramses – the arch-villain of her collection – has sinister plans of his own for Neiko, whom he eventually traps in Qari.

Neiko must find her way back home and turn the tables on her enemies, but what she finds out during her travels in Qari will change her entire existence for all eternity.

About the Author

A.K. Taylor grew up in the backwoods of Georgia where she learned about nature. She enjoys hunting and fishing, beekeeping, gardening, archery, shooting, hiking, and has various collections. She also has interest in music, Native American history and heritage, Egyptian history, and the natural sciences. A.K. Taylor has been writing and drawing since the age of 17. A.K. Taylor has graduated from the University of Georgia with a biology degree, and she shares an interest in herpetology with her husband.

Author Q&A

Give a brief description of your book.

Neiko’s Five Land Adventure is about an 18 year old warrior who is the Chosen One from the hidden Indian land called Hawote which unknowingly coexists with the US Canada and Mexico. The Indians are constantly at war with their enemies the Crackedskulls. They try to come up with a plan to remove her from command and abduct her, but things go wrong when a place she thought she imagined is real and had the worst villain ever known. She gets trapped in Qari, one of the Five Lands. She must get home and turn the tables on her enemies. What she find out in Qari can change her life forever…

What is your professional background?

Since I am such a young person, my professional career has been mostly college and starting jobs. I got my bachelor’s degree in biology in May of 2007. I went to work at an analytical lab shortly after where we did elemental testing on organic compounds. I lost this job due to the recession and I have not been able to return to the scientific field, so now I have become a writer and used my scientific knowledge in other areas and in my writing. I have also begun a cooperative project with Mark Levine, the author of The Fine Print of Self Publishing, where I have written a small ebook called Self Promoting and Survival Tips for Newbie Authors that will be available later this year, and I will write articles for websites that his company owns in addition to continuing my saga.

What do you think readers will take from Neiko’s Five Land Adventure?

This depends on the reader. Adults can be transported back to their childhoods, and kids and younger readers can have inspired imaginations. I learned this power that it has on adults by adults themselves by some of the feedback and reviews I have gotten so far. I want all readers to enjoy a great adventure and to know that many more are coming!

Ticketmaster Envelopes

Ticketmaster’s website boasts if you purchase tickets and have them shipped via US Mail, they will come in a plain white envelope.

US Mail

Get your tickets in 10-14 days, delivered in a plain white envelope.

(As seen on http://www.ticketmaster.com/h/shipping.html?tm_link=tm_homeA_i_sr)

However, recently my ticketmaster tickets have been coming with the word TICKETMASTER pretty freaking huge on the return address area of the envelope.

What gives?  I don’t remember the having this blatantly obvious return address label a few months ago.

Are they trying to get more people to print at home by scaring them in to thinking someone might snag the envelope since it is now pretty obvious that it is event tickets?

They aren’t going to scare me – I hate printing tickets because they look so freaking awful in scrapbooks! I really home e-tickets and print at home do not become the norm.
