My February Get Glue Stickers Are Here!

On February 4th I requested my “20” stickers from Get Glue and on March 3rd they arrived.  (It is a nice reminder that I can request more in a couple of days when they show up!)  It is always so exciting to see what shows up – though it was a bit disappointing that I only got 10 and 3 of those were the generic glue hearts that they seem to send every time.  On the plus side, I haven’t gotten any duplicates yet (other than the glue hearts, which is a given) But now I have nothing to trade to try and complete some of the sets that I really would like all of (Pretty Little Liars, to name one)

I received:
Debbie Downer
Dynamic Duo
Ghost Hunters Live
Moz – White Collar
Love Bites

Hanson @ WXLO’s Music Lounge

Hanson is embarking on a radio promo tour now that they have released their 2nd single from Shout It Out, “Give A Little”  Since it looks like they will not be touring the USA in 2011, I decided I should try to check out some of their appearances if I could. (The perks of being unemployed! ha)

Yesterday they were scheduled to appear at Boston’s Children Hospital in the early afternoon and WXLO’s Music Lounge at Wachussetts Mountain in Princeton, MA in the evening.  Since I figured Boston would be too difficult for my to navigate on my own, I opted to only attend the latter event.

I got there around 2:30pm, figuring most people would be trying to hit up both events.  There were a couple of guys setting up the “stage” when I got there, and a few rows of people were already there as well.  A couple of girls had gotten there at 7am! (We were told it was open to the public, but space would be limited)  It turned out that the Boston event had NOT been open to the public (though a few fans did manage to get in) so I was proud of myself for not making yet another poor life decision! Hooray!  Maybe since it is March now my luck has turned around.

As the hours went by, the crowd got bigger and bigger.  Hanson was supposed to perform at 5:30, but they don’t say they run on Hanson Standard Time for nothing!  The performance didn’t start until 6, or maybe even later.  For a second after the performance started, everyone remained sitting, which was nice.  But then all hell broke loose.  Everyone jumped up, I had 2 girls with me in the spot where my chair once was. Fortunately I was able to keep my balance and see most of the performance.  There were a decent number of kids in the crowd as well so everyone getting rowdy like that was not the smartest idea.  But I believe MOST of these “fans” were girls who loved them way back when and then heard they would be playing a free show and decided to check it out.  The fans I recognized from multiple shows did not seem to be acting like fools.

Taylor asked, I believe, if anyone wanted to go Naked Skiing.  LOL What?  We were at a ski resort, but still!  The performance was in the lodge, so there were windows to the side of Taylor.  There were some kids outside who were dancing around by the windows and watching, and Zac ran up to the window and smashed against it at one point, when they thought they were done performing.  But then a few girls started begging for them to play MMMBop, so they did.

Unfortunately, the tweet I attempted to send with the setlist got lost somewhere in cyber space due to the issues I was having with service. (The more people that showed up, the more issues I was having connecting) This setlist is from memory – but I will confirm it with the video I took later this weekend and make modifications if needed.  I am not sure if any video is post worthy, but I’ll see if maybe I can make a compilation video of some clips that came out ok. That is – if I can figure out how to work iMovie.  It is about time I taught myself how to work the program though!

Idol – Top 12!

The Idol Top 12  13 has been announced.  I can’t say that I am 100% pleased with it, but quite a few that I wanted to go through did end up making it through.  I hope this is not still a “spoiler” as it was aired on Thursday and it is now Saturday, but I decided to post who my ideal Top 13 would have been, versus who the Top 13 ended up being.

Idol’s Top 13 ConcertKatie’s Top 13
Casey Abrams Casey Abrams
Haley Reinhart Haley Reinhart
Jacob Lusk Tim Halperin
James Durbin James Durbin
Karen Rodriquez Karen Rodriquez
Lauren Alaina Lauren Alaina
Paul McDonald Paul McDonald
Pia Toscano Pia Toscano
Scotty McCreery Brett Lowenstern
Thia Meghia This Meghia
Stefano Langone Stefano Langone
Naima Aededapo Naima Aededapo
Ashton Jones Robbie Rosen

However, I would have made it a Top 14 and also included Kendra Chantelle.
It did kind of pain me to add James Durbin to my list – but I have to give credit where it is due and although he is quite similar to Adam Lambert (though maybe a bit more Rock than Glam) he has been pretty good thus far.

VIP Tickets – Are they worth it?

VIP tickets seem to be the latest trend. But are they worth it for you to buy? You have to weigh what comes with the packages and what each item is worth to you.  Most of these packages come with premium seating, which is definitely a plus. In my opinion, a M&G; with the artist is also a HUGE plus. But it all depends on the final price and how big of a fan you are of the particular artist offering the package. (And if you will still be able to afford to eat after you buy it!)

The only show I have gone to “VIP” in the past was the Jonas Brothers on their When You Look Me In The Eyes tour.  The ticket cost $150 and included:
1 Premium Reserved Seat (I was 6th row)
1 Invitation to Soundcheck Party (was 3rd row for this)
1 VIP Lanyard (nice for the scrapbook)
1 Signed Tour Program (Sold this for $98 on ebay when I got home!)
Sound check “parties” are hardly ever the real soundcheck.  The headlining act does their soundcheck early in the afternoon, long before any fans are there. (Or maybe I should say long before the fans are inside. They might be outside in line though!)
To me, this VIP package was worth it – especially since I was able to offset so much of my costs by selling my program. (Although I didn’t know that in advance) A portion of the ticket price went to the Jonas Brothers charity. I also had a great seat for the show so I was able to get awesome photos which is always important to me.

This Spring – Emily Osment and Drake Bell were set to go on tour and offer VIP packages.  However, the entire tour got canceled.  My breakdown really means nothing now, but I figured I would use it as an example!

Here was the breakdown of Emily Osment’s package:
1 Premium Reserved or General Admission Ticket
1 Meet and Greet with Emily Osment
1 Exclusive, Limited Edition Emily Osment Poster
1 Commemorative VIP Laminate
For $80 I managed to land myself a 10th row ticket (“Gold Circle” tickets in 4th row were selling for $60 on LiveNation, otherwise tickets were in he $40 range) and would have been able to meet Emily, had a laminate for my scrapbook and well, I don’t know what I would have ended up doing with with poster. But I don’t have to worry about that now.

Drake’s on the other hand included the following:
• Meet and Greet with Drake Bell
• 1 individual photo with Drake taken (You MUST bring your own point-and-shoot camera. Professional equipment will be turned away).
• Souvenir tour laminate
• 1 pre-signed limited edition tour poster
And cost $75.  As much as I would have loved to go to both of these M&Gs;, I just caould not justify “upgrading” for nearly the same amount as my other package – which included a ticket!  Plus, I’d have to bring my own camera! (Which, I kind of prefer because at least I know it’ll take a decent picture – but for that price they should have a professional on tour taking photos)  Unless I knew a) I could re-sell the poster for around $50 and b) both M&Gs; aren’t going on at the same time – then I would have considered it.

I Love All Access is a company that likes to offer exclusive VIP packages.  For instance, the Glee Tour – has a M&G; package for about $500.  I am absolutely in love with Chris Colfer and was seriously considering purchasing this package. But they also have the fine print that the cast members will vary from show to show.  Whether they are just saying this to cover themselves in case one of the cast members gets sick or is just not up to doing the M&G;, I don’t know, but $500 is a lot to gamble on the possibility of Chris being there.  I would love to do a VIP Package for a show through ILAA at some point to review their process… but a lot of times I find them to be a bit too expensive, even though they do often include premium seat locations and M&Gs; (ILAA if you’re out there and want to hook me up with a discount or package for free in exchange for a review… please contact me! haha)

Ultimately, the decision is up to you.  Break down what the package costs per item (approximately) and see if you don’t mind spending that much.  Make sure that buying the package isn’t going to completely break the bank.  Obviously if you are independently wealthy, some of these prices might be pocket change to you – and then by all means go VIP all the time!  For the rest of us, VIP tickets are a perk that we can take advantage of sometimes.   And if you think one of your favorite bands might be going on tour soon and offering VIP packages – why not start saving now?  Start a concert fund in a jar on your desk or in a savings account of its own so that you will have a bit of money saved up already by the time dates are released!

Rock N Roll Fridays – David Bowie

1. Space Oddity “Ground control to Major Tom. Take your protein pill and put your helmet on…”
What vitamin or mineral supplement(s) do you take?
I don’t take any vitamins or supplements.

2. Changes “And these children that you spit on. As they try to change their worlds, are immune to your consultations. They’re quite aware of what they’re going thru”
What advice or suggestion have you given recently that went unheeded?
I can’t recall any advice or suggestion I’ve given lately. I have been keeping to myself!

3. Starman “There’s a starman waiting in the sky. He’d like to come and meet us, but he thinks he’d blow our minds…”
Do you believe there is intelligent life on other planets that has been monitoring us on earth?
Yes. Especially since I just finished watching the entire 3rd Rock from the Sun series 😉

4. Ziggy Stardust “Ziggy played guitar, jamming good with Weird and Gilly, the Spiders from Mars. He played it left hand, but made it too far. Became the special man, then we were Ziggy’s band”
What is your favorite “fad” singer or band that swooped in with a hit and swooped out 15 minutes of fame?
hmm. Most of my favorites have multiple albums so I wouldn’t consider them fads, even if their popularity has faded a bit. I am trying to think of a one-hit-wonder song that I really loved but I am falling a bit short.  I am sure there has to be a couple of them but I just can’t think right now!

5. Heroes “I, I will be King, and you, you will be Queen. Though nothing will drive them away. We can beat them just for one day. We can be heroes just for one day…”
Do you think the Royals should remain in England as sovereign rulers?
Sure, why not?

6. Fame “Fame makes a man take things over. Fame, lets him loose, hard to swallow. Fame puts you where things are hollow…”
For you, what would be the worst part about being famous?
Paparazzi! Definitely. I often say that would be the 1 reason I could never become famous.

7. Ashes to Ashes “I never done good things, I never done bad things, I never did anything out of the blue…”
Name a good thing and a bad thing you did recently.
I can’t think of anything BAD I’ve done.. like something wrong… I’ve made a few bad decisions in the past couple of weeks – which you should know about if you read the blog regularly…

8. Fashion “Fashion! Turn to the left! Fashion! Turn to the right! Ooooooh, Fashion! We are the goon squad and we’re coming to town, beep beep!”
What is the last fashionable item you bought?
I am not fashionable at all… and I haven’t bought any clothing or accessories lately (with the exception of some socks from Little Miss Matched!)

9. Let’s Dance “Let’s dance to the song they’re playin on the radio…Let’s sway while color lights up your face, let’s sway, sway thru the crowd to an empty space…”
When was the last time you slow-danced with someone and what was the song?
Umm probably at a dance when I was in middle school. NO idea what the song would have been! I can’t remember if I danced with any guys at prom! Probably not if I can’t remember lol

10. China Girl “I could escape this feeling with my china girl. I feel a wreck without my china girl…”
What is your favorite Chinese dish?
Chicken Lo Mein, Boneless Spare Ribs and/or Crab Rangoon are my regular rotation.

11. Cat People “See these eyes so green, I can stare for a thousand years. Colder than the moon…”
What is your least favorite thing about cats?
That they can scratch you.

12. Rebel Rebel “You love bands when they’re playin hard. You want more and you want it fast. They put you down, they say I’m wrong. You tacky thing, you put them on”
What do you like about your wildest friend or acquaintance?

I think I like her wildness. I am a bit more calm so we kind of balance each other out when we are together. Or something like that.

Idol Thoughts – Live Rounds!

The top 12 Guys & Girls have now performed “live” (it was pre-recorded) on Idol.  I take back what I said about the boys being better than the girls! The girls seemed weaker in their packages when the Top 24 were picked, but based on the performances of the past two nights the girls are AWESOME.  The boys? Not so awesome.

It is hard for me to pick which ones were the worst of the guys because there were so many of them that were not that great!  However, I decided to try out the Facebook voting to see how it worked and I gave 2 votes to Tim and 2 votes to Stefano before I got sick of typing in “captcha” code.  It is a heck of a lot easier to get massive amounts of votes by calling than it is online, so I think I am going to stick to calling.  That is, if there is anyone who catches my attention enough to justify me spending time calling.  I was also really bummed that James Durbin did a good job.  I did not want him to do well because I feel like he is a Lambert2.0, but unfortunately for me I think that his performance is going to guarantee he stick around for a while.  I was also shocked that Dial Idol had Scotty McCreery as #1 when I checked their site!  He was ok, but I wouldn’t say he was the best of the night.  I’m a bit bummed that a couple of my “not so favorites” did well, because it means that a couple of my 6 favorites will not be making it through to the 12!

The girls were really, really good.  The ones that I think will be the bottom/going home are Ta-Tynisa, Rachel and Julie.  There actually have to be even MORE than that in the bottom because they are going from 24 to 12 but I am having trouble picking 3 more girls that I don’t like.  It looks like Dial Idol has Ta-Tynisa as #1 which is odd to me again.  Although I think that site has a lot more trouble being accurate in the beginning rounds and I am not sure how they are factoring in Facebook votes.  I think the younger voting crowd might opt to vote on Facebook instead of (or in addition to) the phone lines and I don’t know how Dial Idol is taking that into consideration.

For those of you who don’t know, DialIdol is a website which “measures the busy signal” and tries to correctly predict which contestants are getting the most votes because of it.  I think in the more recent years Idol has opened more phone lines because busy signals when I call seem to be less and less (unless I just end up calling for less popular contestants) so I am really not sure how accurate it is, but I always cross reference the site and then go nuts when it predicts one of my faves will be in the bottom.  For this preliminary round I am trying to ignore it – especially since the #1s seem to be so off the mark compared to my opinions.

Under the cut is a bit of a breakdown for each contestant I wrote as they were performing. I only watched each of the performances once so it is “first impressions” I am hoping to have a DVR really soon so I can reference performances again… that is if I decide to also make this a weekly post. Still not sure! But I do now have that fun little graphic, so we’ll see 🙂

1. Clint Jun – he seemed like he was all over the place – yet the judges loved it? Am I listening to a different performance than they are?

2. Jovany – I don’t really like him, but he did good. Nothing really amazing, but good. Safe song choice though.

3. Jordan – I think the background drowned him out and I wasn’t blown away by it.

4. Tim – My twitter pal! But.. not that great, unfortunately. I think the song selection was the issue.

5. Brett – He seems very awkward on the stage.  However I thought his performance was good. Probably the best one to this point.

6. James –  It pains me to say this, but he was great. I could do without the screaming/screeching though. Never a fan of that.

7. Robbie – Definitely the wrong song choice. He started off alright, but then he seemed to lose it. Depressing, because he was really good in past rounds!

8. Scotty- I really don’t like country. But, I guess he was alright.

9. Stephano- In the beginning he seemed to be overpowered by the band.  But then he seemed to find his groove… except for a note or two… 😉 But I liked it!

10. Paul – He has a really interesting voice. I liked his performance, though my parents weren’t too impressed with him.

11.  Jacob – I kind of go either way with him, but I thought his performance was very good.

12. Casey -awesome, awesome, awesome!

1. Ta-Tynisa – She seemed pitchy at points, but otherwise I think she did pretty good.

2. Naima – I liked that she put her personality in to it. A lot of people questioned her decision to do this song because of Fantasia, but I think she did the song justice.

3. Kendra – I really liked her performance.

4. Rachel – I really don’t like the arrangement changes she made to the song. It made it hard to recognize and it came across as really cabaret.

5. Karen – Another good performance.  And here I thought that the girls were weak! I liked that she went from English to Spanish.

6. Lauren T – These girls are surprising me! Another good performance.

7. Ashton – She seemed a bit shouty at parts and she wasn’t one of the best, but I didn’t think she was horrible either.

8. Julie – She had spots that were good and some that were not so good. I wasn’t impressed.

9. Haley – I think that she is one of my favorite girls. Not sure if the song choice was right for her, but I still think that she did well!

10. Thia – I like Thia. I wasn’t sure about her starting without any music, but once the music came in it as evident that she is a beautiful singer.

11. Lauren A. – She had a real good command of the stage, great stage presence and I am glad she delivered since she is “the chosen one”

12. Pia – Very nice job!  She nailed it.

The Daily Post

What’s the longest you’ve been without sleep?

I have to say, it can’t be much more than 24 hours, if that.  I love to sleep.  I remember 2 times when sleeping was difficult and I didn’t get much of it – but I now know I can sleep ANYWHERE if I am tired enough!

Time 1 – Camping out for Hanson in Alexandria, VA.  It was October and it was pretty cold out.  We had folding chairs and I was in mine for about 18 hours straight.  We got in line around midnight the night before and didn’t sleep much.  After the show we decided to get a hotel so we could be well rested before driving back to my friend’s place in Maryland.

Time 2 – IKEA was having a grand opening and the first I think 200 people in line would get a free chair.  My cousins were coming down from New Hampshire and I was going to wait with them, but instead my mom decided to go too.  Everyone else had a tent.  We had a collapsible chair that was 2 seats attached to each other.   I had said that I would just sleep on the ground.  But then there was a HUGE rain storm. One of our “neighbors” gave us some plastic that we had over us.  Everyone without tents, with the exception of us, ended up leaving. The news wanted to interview us the next morning but my mom refused because we looked like wet rats.  We went in, got our free chair and left.  We put one of the 2 together and then fell asleep on the couch!

My postcard blog is now on wordpress!

Well, I did it.  I managed to move my postcard blog from blogger to wordpress.  It was a trial run to see if I would be able to do it with this blog or if I would have to hire someone to do it for me.  I still have a few questions about the process I need to figure out and this blog is a bit more involved than the postcard blog was but now I am feeling confident I’ll be able to do it.

Since I made my own layout using Artisteer, it was really easy to go back in and export it for WordPress instead of Blogger so that did not change at all. (Unfortunately the same can not be said for this blog’s layout and really that is the 1 piece holding me back)

If you’d like to check out my postcard blog, it can be found at: http://postcards.concertkatie.com I am still checking it out to make sure nothing weird went on during the switch, but so far it looks ok. *fingers crossed* I don’t find anything weird!
