The Daily Post – Would You Rather…

Would you rather be super intelligent or extremely good looking?

I would rather be super intelligent.  I’d get a lot more done in a lot less time if I was super intelligent and I’d also have better odds of inventing my teleporter and time machine… (And maybe a potion to be extremely good looking? haha)

P.S I just won tickets to check out The Alternate Routes at Daniel Street from GEG Presents on facebook so look out for a review of that show next week!

P.S.S. A giveaway is coming either later today or tomorrow.. depending on when I can photograph the prize – if you want a heads up make sure you are following on Google Friend Connect as that will be the mandatory entry 🙂

Book Review: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

Recently I read the 4 books in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series as well as 3 Willows, which is a spin-off of the series.  The books are written by Ann Brashares.  I had seen part of the movie starring Alexis Bledel as Lena, Amber Tamblyn as Tibby, America Ferrera as Carmen, and Blake Lively as Bridget.  I didn’t realize there is actually a second movie as well until after I read the series. (I will have to rent them both soon)

The books follow the summers of “The Septembers” a group of girls who were born friends as their mothers had all met during their pregnancy and all the Moms were due in September.  They are spending one of their first summers apart – Lena is off to Greece with her sister to visit her Grandparents, Tibby is stuck home working and babysitting her (much) younger siblings, Carmen is going south to spend time with her father and Bridget is off to soccer camp!

Before they leave, Carmen finds a pair of pants and somehow it fits all of the girls perfectly. (All the girls are not the same size – Carmen is a full figured latina, Bee is very tall, etc) They make a pact to send the pants to each other throughout the summer and then meet up and discuss the luck the pants brought them after the summer is over.  The pants would make them feel like the others were with them when they were wearing them.

The books follow all the trials and tribulations of teenagers finishing high school and starting college as well as the added stresses of first loves, divorced and remarrying parents, helping your family grieve over a lost parent, etc.  One of my friends (who I have known since I was born!) recommended that I read these because she said they would be “easy, fun reads”  She did not warn me that I would not only laugh at some of the situations that these girls got themselves into – but I would cry as well!

All of the books are around 300 pages in length, and would be categorized as Young Adult. I flew through them because I kept wanting to know what would happen next. They totally screwed up my sleep schedule for a week or two!

After finishing the 4 “Sisterhood” books, chronicling 4 summers of the Sisterhoods lives, I found out about “3 Willows” which was subtitled ‘The Sisterhood  Grows’  I wasn’t sure what to expect, so I read it next.  Honestly, I could have done without the book entirely as part of the series.  The only member of the Sisterhood who actually made an appearance in the book was Lena – and it was only for a very brief moment.  Her sister Effie is in it, however, she is really rotten in it!  In the other books I didn’t really have a problem with Effie but I was definitely not a fan of her in 3Willows.

The book follows Polly, Ama and Jo – 3 girls who attend the same high school as the Sisterhood.  The Sisterhood is some sort of “legend” in the school.  The girls are mentioned here and there.  I could have done without this and I think that the book would have been better received by me if it was an entirely different story with no ties to the Sisterhood.

I am not sure if 3 Willows will continue on to a series – but I think I would like it much better if any references to the Sisterhood were just dropped.  The story lines of Polly – who went off to Modeling camp, Ama – who was off camping and completely out of her element and Jo – who started drama at her summer job on the beach – all kept me interested enough on their own and I am sure any future adventures of the trio would keep me just as entertained without it having to be linked to the other series.

The Daily Post – Dream Vacation

Describe your dream vacation.

My dream vacation is when I take a week off and go to a concert every night! (And a dream vacation would have a 2nd week off right after to recuperate!)  I’ve done this a couple of times – in 2009 going on the rock boat, in 2009 going to Jonas Brothers/Honor Society shows and in 2010 with Hanson’s 5 of 5 (and then some).

Glee is coming to Connecticut!

Earlier today tour dates were announced for Glee!  Missing from the list was Connecticut and when I checked the dates of the other local-ish shows (MA, NJ, NY) only New York was on a weekend and unfortunately that venue has NO railings whatsoever for their seats, so that was out.  I was pretty bummed because I’d really love to see them (and possibly meet Chris Colfer – LOVE him and his character Kurt, we have a lot in common, I think)

However, tonight during Glee and other FOX shows the FOXCT news was teasing that Glee would be coming to Connecticut! I watched the whole hour of the 10pm news (even though I knew that the announcement would not come until 10:55 – it always works that way with things I am not so patiently waiting to see on the news) and they said that June 7th the cast of Glee will be performing at Mohegan Sun!  Hopefully lower level seats will be available in the public sale (unlike the NKOTBSB sales) and prices won’t be through the roof!

Here are the tour dates that were announced today – if you don’t see your city – maybe it will be added as a surprise like CT was? Here’s hoping 🙂

The Daily Post

Could you live without the internet for a week? For a month?

Definitely not a month. Maybe a week if I had enough fun things going on to keep me occupied.  When I was on The Rock Boat we had no internet and I survived. Although, I suppose if I looked hard enough I could have found it, but there were concerts going on everywhere you turned so I’m not sure why I would have wanted to be on the internet in the first place.  And to make up for the lack of being able to blog while on the boat, I kept a journal and every time we came back to the room I would write in it with what had happened.  If not for that, I am not sure I would have remembered everything by the time I got home!

The Daily Post

Describe the one who got away. It could be a person, a thing, an idea or anything.

I’m going to go with a couple of concerts.  Usually they had my mom’s famous last words – “They’ll come back again”

-O-Town at the Webster Theater – we couldn’t go because we were going to a family reunion.  We got home in plenty of time as I sat at my desk listening to songs from someone who had called me from the show.  It was their last tour. (But hopefully I’ll make up for it on their reunion tour)

-Aaron Carter & Dreamstreet at the Oakdale – Not sure why I couldn’t go to this one, but Dreamstreet disbanded shortly after.  I have seen Jesse McCartney solo a couple of times though.

-2gether at a radio show – Not sure I’ll ever be able to make up for missing this show – someone had even bought me tickets but never ended up giving them to me 🙁  I can’t remember if this was before or after Michael has passed away but either way I doubt the remaining 4 will ever do any sort of “reunion”

Twitter PSA

I have a bit of a PSA here.  If you get crazy DMs (Direct Messages) or @replys from someone that you are following – let them know about it! (And most importantly – don’t click on any links that might be included!)

Last month, my public account got targeted (and to this day I am not sure how or why) and was sending out crazy DMs to pretty much everyone I follow (600+) about Apple beta testing and iPhones. Not a single person wrote me to let me know this was going on!  Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it) my account also spammed my private account so as soon as I saw it I knew to go in and change my password and hope for the best.

Even before this has happened to me, I had made it a point to contact whoever sends me crazy DMs.  It helps me out because the sooner they know about it, the sooner they can do something about it which will reduce my risk of being sent the same crap DMs over and over again. And it helps them out because chances are – no one else has told them about it yet.

All you need to do is send a simple “your account is sending spam DMs – you might want to change your password”.  9 times out of 10 the person will be thankful – you’ll either get a “Thanks I didn’t know! Changing my password right now!” response or a “Sorry! I changed my password hope that does the trick” type response.  Every now and then you get the “NO IT IS NOT!” reply.  I find usually when people are this defensive, it is best to just remove them from your friends.  It is often hard to convince them.  Some of the viruses are sneaky, and there will be no evidence of any sent DMs on the account.  The one I was hit with, I had all the DMs in my sent area.

It took me days to delete my sent DMs.  Every now and then I go back and check and it seems like more have popped up (though all are with the mid-January date so I am hoping it is not an ongoing issue still) And the more DMs I deleted, the more shocked I became at just how many people got contacted and how many people said nothing about it!

The Daily Post

When teleportation is finally possible, where will you beam yourself first?

(Yes, you can assume you’d be able to teleport yourself back. It’s be a teleportation app for your phone of course, which you’d keep in your pocket)

Hmm. I often talk about inventing a teleporter and a time machine so that I would never miss another concert again, anywhere (and still make it to work on time!)  Although, it would be tough to say where I’d want to go first.  Lately I’ve had an obsession with London, so I suppose I would go there… (I’ve been researching the filming locations of Hanson’s music video “Where’s The Love” for my fansite)  But by the time this teleporter is available for my use, I’ll probably be fascinated with some other location!
