Big Time Rush – Dunkin Donuts Music Lounge February 16

Yesterday Clear Channel hosted an online live chat with Big Time Rush, which was followed with a Q&A; for fans in studio a quick performance and a M&G.; I was fortunate enough to win passes for my friend and I from Kiss957’s online points system.

We were told to be at the studio by 3pm because the chat would begin at 3:30, and I was under the impression that we would be viewing the live chat. When 3:30 came and went and we were not inside, I knew plans had either changed or we weren’t properly informed as to what was going on.

Once we got in the lounge, we grabbed a spot on the floor in front of the stage. They had 2 guitars being checked for the performance. We hung around for a while and then KC101’s John Mayer came in and said within the next 20 minutes the guys would be coming in and doing the Q&A; first.

John asked the band questions that we had written down before going inside. When he asked mine, he said it was “the weirdest question I’ve ever seen written” (although apparently yesterday one of the BTR guys was on the radio with John and said he wanted weird questions lol)

Questions they answered included:
-Do you guys play pranks on each other? (Nerfs guns, slime putty, don’t want to be the first to fall asleep on the tour bus)
-One place in the world you haven’t been to you’d like to visit? (Barcelona, Borneo, it was Connecticut but now we’re here, Tahiti)
-If you could tour with anyone who would it be? (You! Justin Timberlake, Hey Monday, Train)
-What kind of cars do you have? (Ride my pet dragon from a dealership in Los Angeles)
-If you could be on The Jersey Shore – what character would you be? (The Situation. They all have their own Jersey Shore Names – The Location, The Logation, The Conflict, The Resolution – The Big Shore)
-What color are your boxers? (Let’s Check! American Eagle w/ flags, green, calvin klein)
-What is the most unique/weird/sweetest gift you’ve received from a fan? (Snowboard, Mixtapes, Vinyl records paints, Brandon Boyd autograph.  James and Carlos don’t get anything – just hugs. James got a Build a bear)
Carlos tells a story about a German fan who asked “May I embrace you?”
-If you could collab with anyone, who would it be? Dead or Alive? (Pixie Lott, Tiny Tempa, Jessie J, somebody from the UK)
-Who is your favorite power ranger? (That’s not weird, The red one, The Green one – who was always spanish, the white/green/red one were always spanish (joke), Logan’s first crush was on the Pink ranger)
-Will you be my valentine? (All of us, yeah! On the bus for Valentine’s day. In NJ/NY)
-Who would be your perfect valentine? (All I ask is you get me flowers)
-Do you like heart shaped cookies? (I just got one downstairs – Logan.)
-Do you like corn dogs? (I don’t like them as much as I eat on the show)
-What are your favorite foods? (Bacon, Pizza, anything grilled – chicken, potatoes, pasta, BBQ)
-Now that you are going to have a giant hit song – will you still do the show? (Yeah. Forever and ever. ‘Big Time Rush Me To The Hospital’ 30 eps this season, 20 already filmed. Going to be a long time)
-Who is your favorite guest star? (Russell Brand, Miranda)
-Story about one of the guest stars (Russell is witty on/off stage – he will go and do yoga in the middle of the set.)
-What song that didn’t make the album did you wish made the album (Stuck – only on iTunes, others you might end up hearing)
-Why wasn’t shot in the dark on the album? (There is a chance it will be released. It’s a good song.)
-What cologne are you wearing? (Pur Blanc, Marc Jacobs – Kendall.  Old Spice, just deodorant – James.  Chanel – The One. John Bravado’s cologne)

After the Q&A; they performed the song “Stuck” which you can check out below, as posted by the radio station – we weren’t allowed to take video. Kendall didn’t sing because he is just getting over a cold.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SnVNlr6OWk]

Then they did a few more questions”
-Favorite colors? (green, green, purple, red)
-Favorite show? (This one.  No, episode, Big Time Beach Party. Good eps coming up.)
-Can you come to the movies with us tonight? (We’d love to but we’ll be on the bus on the way to Columbus, OH which is 12 hours away. We haven’t been to the movies in a while and we’d love to if we had some downtime)
-Are you playing a concert tonight? (No, but we are getting some dates together for this summer)

There will be a Big Time Rush giveaway posted in the next couple of days… and be sure to check out some photos under the cut!

From the horses mouth…

A couple of tweets – from Drake Bell and Emily Osment with some more details on the tour being canceled.

I am off to hang out with Big Time Rush… and to see just how “smart” my smart phone really is… I will be testing it by attempting to buy a ticket to see Ocean Grove at 3pm (which is just before the Big Time Rush festivities begin)

March show cancelation?

Action Item, one of the opening acts for the Drake Bell / Emily Osment tour that I have (VIP) tickets for, posted the following on their facebook tonight:

Due to circumstances beyond on our control, our Spring tour with Drake Bell & Emily Osment has been cancelled. We were all really excited for this tour and it was shaping up to be our biggest tour yet, however the situation is out of our control. The good news is us and our team are working AS WE SPEAK to be on tour this Spring! Look for an announcement soon! We love you guys, thanks for everything.

At first I thought, well, maybe they just got bumped off the tour and Drake and Emily would still be performing. (My VIP tickets include a M&G; with Emily Osment) However, further down in the comments on the page, they write:

Two things: THE WHOLE TOUR is cancelled, not just us. And refunds will be available!

Obviously I am waiting for confirmation from Artist Arena, where I bought my tickets, for official confirmation of this and a refund…

But, on the plus side, Ocean Grove is playing NYC that night so I can always replace this show with that one (and for much less money – even including train fare! haha)  But on the not so plus side, I had a nice post written up about VIP tickets and whether or not they are worth it to buy, including details about this show – I am going to have to rework that a bit!

The Alternate Routes Live at Daniel Street February 12

Saturday night The Alternate Routes performed at Daniel Street along with City Streets Country Roads and The Candles.  City Streets Country Roads were up first, to warm up the small crowd who had gotten to the venue early (most likely to make sure that they got a decent parking spot!)  They got major bonus points because aside from saying who they were (you would be surprised how many opening acts forget to ever mention the band’s name!) they also mentioned the titles of a few of their songs – they played Storms In, Easier Said Than Done, among others and they noted that several of the songs were new. Their set started off strong but as more and more people continued to show up I kind of lost my attention span for them.

After CSCR’s set, we got bumped from our table because they had to put the bands equipment where we were!  We moved up to the front a bit and cased out a spot that would be decent for the Alternate Routes set.  Then it was time for The Candles. I couldn’t really see most of their set due to people standing in front of me but they seemed to be really in to it and every now and then I caught a glimpse of one of the guitarists jumping around on stage.  I was able to watch their entire last song through a camera view finder behind held by a woman in front of me, which was kind of neat.

Then it was time for The Alternate Routes! We snagged a spot right up front and waited for them to take the stage.  There might have been some technical difficulties or something going on because there seemed to be a longer gap than usual in getting them ready to go and even the lead singer, Tim made a comment about being ready to get up there and play some music!  It took me about halfway through their set to realize a) it had been about 2 years since I’ve last seen them and b) I’ve never seen them headline before.

The show was GREAT. (With the exception of the white light that shined right in to my eyes every now and then.  Maybe I should keep sunglasses on me at all times because this seems to be happening to me a lot lately!)  Even one of the guys behind me said “Man, they are really great tonight!”  Of course, I have no other headlining shows to compare anything to but it was one of the most fun shows I have been to in a while!  The perfect amount of sing a longs too!  (And my cousin got put in charge of the fog machine.  Which was going fine until she “broke” it… then one of the venue guys filled it back up with whatever it needed to make the fog, but it still wasn’t working.  Then randomly in the middle of a song it started back up again and we all cheered!)

One of my cousins had never seen The Alternate Routes before and had heard about the infamous toolbox used during The Future Is Nothing New.  When Tim picked it up and we heard nothing, we all just kind of looked at each other like “OH NO!”  Some wires on stage were unplugged and plugged back in – still nothing.  Tim took the toolbox apart, still nothing! Finally it started working and the song was able to be finished with the full effect of the tool box!  whew!  Tim also made a comment about how “everyone wants to be at the show where the tool box breaks!”

I really need to start memorizing song titles again.  I used to when I was younger, but at some point I gave up on it.  Probably when music became more digital and I stopped sitting on my bed listening to my discman with the CD in my hand reading off the lyrics as the songs played.  Also when I started listening in my car – it was easy to memorize lyrics because of the repetition of listening to it on car ride after car ride but if the song isn’t titled something incredibly obvious from the chorus I am clueless as to what it is called!

Photos and a partial setlist are under the cut 🙂

I didn’t keep a setlist for this show – but going through their discography I am fairly certain the following were performed:
Rocking Chair
Kiss Me
Tell Me Your Name
Ordinary
Asked You Twice
The Future Is Nothing New
Carry Me Home x2
Just The Same
…and obviously way more than that.

DIY recycled journal

Guest post written by Vera Maynard

For 2011, I made a New Year’s resolution to write in my journal every day. I used to do that while I was growing up but then school and work got in my way of doing that. Well, I remember how good it used to feel to put all that stuff down into a journal when I was little and I want to start doing that again. I was going to buy myself a nice journal to help motivate me to stick with my resolution. But, I got the idea to make one instead, which will be a fun project in itself.

Well, this is the first journal that I’ve ever made before, so I went online to find some ideas about how to make it. While I was looking for some help with that, I came across some information about WIRELESS INTERNET PROVIDERS and after I looked through it a little bit, I decided to sign up for internet service with one of them.

My DIY journal turned out so well that I decided to actually make another one. I think this will be the right motivation for me to keep my journaling New Year’s resolution.

Grammys – Record of the Year vs Song of the Year

Every year there seems to be confusion over what the difference is between Record of the Year and Song of the Year. I’ll try to make this explanation as short and sweet as possible 🙂

Record of the year is awarded to the recording artist as well as the producer, engineers and mixers who worked behind the scenes of the recording of the song.

Song of the Year is for the songwriting (composing) aspect of the song, which is why occasionally there will be subscripts with who wrote the song included, if the recording artist did not write it themselves.

It is common that songs will be nominated in both categories and often will win both categories… hope this explanation helps make a little bit more sense 🙂

Rock N Roll Friday – The Rolling Stones

1. As Tears Go By : “It is the evening of the day. I sit and watch the children play. Doing things I used to do, they think are new…”
What do you miss about being a young child?
Not having any responsibilities!

2. She’s A Rainbow : “Have you seen her all in gold, like a queen in days of old. She shoots colors all around, like a sunset going down…”
If you could be a royal figure, whom would you like to be? This could be a past or ancient royal as well.
I don’t really know. History is not my favorite subject so I don’t remember a lot about royals I might have learned about.

3. I Can’t Get No Satisfaction : “When I’m watchin my TV and that man comes on to tell me how white my shirts can be…”
What is your favorite current commercial?
Of course, the mini darth vader that was premiered during the Super Bowl.  Too cute! And the little boys that play Darth are adorable! (I saw them on The Talk earlier this week)

4. Beast of Burden : “I’ll never be your beast of burden. My back is broad, but it’s a hurtin…”
What were you doing the last time you hurt your back?
Standing. LOL It doesn’t take much…

5. Brown Sugar : “Gold Coast slave ship bound for cotton fields, sold in a market down in New Orleans…”
If you hired a maid, what tasks would you have her do?
As much as I would like a maid, it would drive me nuts if things were put away in places and I didn’t know where they were.  However, I am allergic to dust so I suppose I would have my maid do the dusting for me so I wouldn’t end up with itchy, watery eyes.

6. Paint It Black : “I see a red door and I want it painted black. No colors anymore, I want them to turn black…”
What is your favorite wall color?
Blue

7. Miss You : “Well I’ve been haunted in my sleep, you’ve been starring in my dreams. Lord I miss you. “
Who has been starring in your dreams lately?
I actually don’t recall having any dreams lately, oddly enough!

8. Under My Thumb : “It’s down to me, oh that’s what I said. The way she talks when she’s spoken to. Down to me, the change has come, she’s under my thumb…”
Has anyone ever been under your thumb?
No.

9. Emotional Rescue : I will be your knight in shining armour, coming to your emotional rescue…”
Have you ever been to a therapist? If not, would you ever seek professional help for emotional issues?
Yes, but it was a physical therapist for my CP and not for emotional reasons.  I don’t think I need to seek professional help on an emotional level.

10. Ruby Tuesday : “Don’t question why she needs to be so free. She’ll tell you it’s the only way to be…”
Do you prefer to be free or settled down?
Free!

11. Mother’s Little Helper : Things are different today, I hear every mother say. Cooking fresh food for a husband’s just a drag, so she buys an instant cake and she buys a frozen steak…”
What is your favorite convenience or frozen food?
Hot Pockets or Easy Mac.  That is pretty much what I lived off of when I was in college lol I also love McDonalds.

12. Gimme Shelter : “Oh a storm is threatening my very life today, If I don’t get some shelter, Oh yeah I’m gonna fade away…”
Have you ever been in a tragic fire, flood or storm where damage was done to your home or apartment?
Fortunately I have not.

13. Sympathy For The Devil : “Please allow me to introduce myself, I’m a man of wealth and taste, I’ve been around for a long long year, stole many a man’s soul and faith…”
Who is the sleaziest man you know currently?
I don’t think I personally know anyone who is sleazy…
