Jonas Brothers 8/13/10

We got to the venue REALLY early because we went straight from the softball game.  So we picked up our stuff at will call and just hung around for a while waiting for doors.  Which at first we thought would be at 6 or 6:30, but it ended up being more like 6:45, we are assuming due to soundcheck.

We got in line for the Jonas M&G; which was set to star tat 7:15, but it didn’t.  We could hear the show starting, but were still in line for the M&G;! A lot of people were getting frustrated with it taking so long and a LOT of people ended up cutting us.  We just kind of let them without a fight because we knew we would be in there eventually – but seriously people. A simple “do you mind if you miss the openers?” would have gotten a “no” from us and a “well we do can we hop in front of you?” most likely would have gotten a “yes” but everyone just hopped in front when we were almost at the door to go in.

By the time we got out of the M&G; we had already missed all of the first Camp Rock stuff and most of Demi’s set.  Not a huge deal because I wasn’t really looking forward to that stuff anyway – and hello instead we met the Jonas Brothers… didn’t really think that was ever going to end up happening for me lol

Our seats were the last row of the center section before the VIP boxes – they were really nice.  Gotta love me and my contest wins 🙂 We ended up catching Demi’s last 2 songs – Got Dynamite and Here We Go Again and then the Demi/Camp Rock set.  I sat through most of it though because I was BEAT and wanted to save my energy for Jonas!

Finally it was time for Jonas and no longer a huge Camp Rock 2 commercial.  They started with Feelin Alive.  I wasn’t all that familiar with the Jonas LA or Camp Rock 2 soundtrack so there were a few songs in the mix that I was unfamiliar with.

They also had dancers for some of their songs which was pretty interesting… For “Introducing Me” Nick said that Joe had been daring him to sing it fast.  Joe came out and dared him to sing it in 2 minutes and 12 seconds and then I think ended up changing it to 2 minutes 30 seconds. (I thought he said 13, so I’m not exactly sure what was going on)  A timer came up on the screen which said 2:50! Nick kept looking back at it when he took a breath and finished the song when 30 seconds were left, meaning he did it in 2 minutes and 20 seconds.  Kevin and Joe seemed to think the clock started at 2:30 though, so they were impressed Nick did it in 2 minutes and Joe said he’d have to make his dare harder the next night.  Poor Nick… the next challenge will be based on false information.

After that Demi came out and they did a couple camp rock duets so I took that as an opportunity to sit again!  They had a cover in their set which was Paul McCartney’s “Drive My Car”, which was for the parents.  (Last tour they did Sweet Caroline for the parents)

They ended the set with Burnin Up and had flames shooting up which made us hot back in row U, so I can only imagine how hot it was for Christine and Amber – who were front row!

The show was incredibly scaled down from last years HUGE stage and tour, but I liked it better that way.  And although at first I wasn’t too sure I would be into having dancers and stuff on the tour – it kind of gave everything a bit of a broadway show feel, which was cool.

Setlist is copied from a Google search and might not be 100% correct.  I know they did a medley of older stuff before Please Be Mine and I’m not sure if the stuff I missed is accurate because I was not there for it. Photos coming later…

Jonas Brothers Road Dogs Game

At 10am Gates opened at New Britain Stadium for the Road Dogs vs the ESPN GOATS.  Goats stood for “Greatest Of All Time” but I guess there were jokes that it could mean “Go Out And Tank.”  We snagged some seats over the home dugout (goats) and waited.  BP was set to start at 11:15 and as far as we knew the game was going to start at 12.

While ESPN was taking BP, Jonas arrived.  They came in from the back of the field and waved – and weren’t even in their uniforms yet!  Then there were announcements that the first pitch would not be until 1:15! It was a looong morning.

The Road Dogs came out for BP and everyone was pretty much constantly screaming for one of the brothers.  ESPN was getting upset and asked that we cheer a little for them as well because they were the home team! haha

I tried to take photos of each of the members of the teams names on the scoreboard to get some sort of lineup.  I think I failed but I will post what I have anyway.

ESPN Goats
Pod Vader 2B
Mo Davenport C
Nate Ravitz RCF
Jason Gilbert LF
Greg Collie SS
Matthew Berry P
Marcellus Wiley 1B
Keith Lipscomb LCF
Michael Yam SS
Michelle Beadle C
Michael Greenberg

Road Dogs
Tallie Brinson
Kevin Jonas P
Phil Mcintyre SS
Nick Jonas 3B
Mike Meehan
Matt Petroff 2B
Eddie De La Garza 1B
Joe Jonas RCF
Demian Arriaga RF
Michael Sarner
Jared Rosenberg LF

Road Dogs took an early lead, scoring 2 runs in the top of the first.  They scored a 3rd run in the 3rd (I think) and I was getting very sunburned and even with sunscreen on it didn’t seem like it was helping, so I left after the 4th and went to the car for a nap. Not sure how much worse I would have ended up if I stayed out there another hour! (And if the game started at noon like scheduled, I’d have made it through the whole game)

Road Dogs ended up winning 3-0.  Kevin pitched a shut out!

Burnham – Road Dogs game Pre-Show

A LOT happened yesterday. I was awake from 7am-3am, just to give you an idea!  Which means there are a lot of posts to come, but I am trying to get everything organized and in order so it might take a few days.

The first thing we did yesterday was went to the Jonas Brothers Road Dogs game.  Before the game, at 9:30am there was a pre-show concert (the game wasn’t supposed to start until noon) with Burnham.  Burnham is made up of 3 brothers, Alex, Andre and Forrest and are obviously often compared to the Jonas Brothers and Hanson.  I see more similarities to the Jonas Brothers than Hanson, to be honest, but any band of 3 brothers is automatically going to be tagged “the new Hanson.”  Alex and Andre played guitar while Forrest sang lead and they had a backup drummer.  (Similar to Nick and Kevin playing guitar while Joe is usually the front-man)

The crowd seemed to be made up of mainly small children, which I thought was interesting because the guys are 18, newly 17 and 14. (Andre’s 17th birthday was actually yesterday!) Although, I guess most of the teens decided that Jonas was more important and were in line to get seats for the softball game.

Burnham did a 5 song set  – I believe the songs were Rich Girl, Don’t be Shy, Untouchable, Glow in the Dark and Catch Me If You Can (the last song being their single that has been available on iTunes for about a month)

The songs were catchy and I enjoyed listening to the set.  Afterwards there was a make-shift meet and greet to the side of the stage that was pretty much just a mob of girls around the guys!  Lauren had a gift from fans of Burnham for Andre, so we made our way up to them and she handed it to him. I don’t know what words were exchanged, but she must have told him the gift was heavy because he grabbed it and then pretended to go flying into the wall of the building because it weighed him down so much!  We opted to not get photos with them and went inside for the game – doors had opened as it was now after 10am!

This performance by Burnham was a milestone – it was my 100th concert in my home state of Connecticut!

More on the Road Dogs game coming soon…

John Mayer 8/7/10 Comcast Theatre

Word was that doors would open at 6pm, but they didn’t open until 6:30.  We decided to go in and wandered around for a bit when my cousins found me and we signed up to try and win upgraded tickets.  Then we went off to buy merch.  Which always takes forever with me at Mayer shows haha.  Christine and I each got the “it’s been a long night in Hartford” shirt since we were there pretty much all afternoon and evening lol I got the generic summer tour poster (bummed they did not have a show specific one) a program and of course – Silly Bandz.

Then we bought frozen drinks and went to our seats even though I didn’t really want to see Train. I completely forgot to pick up the wristbands I had ordered for charity.  Hopefully they can be mailed to me!

Trains set was LONG. I’m not sure exactly how long (40+ minutes I’d say) but it was a little bit too long for me. The last time I had seen Train was 10 years ago and I was growing impatient because Hanson would be on next.  I had a similar feeling with this show, waiting for John!  A lot of the crowd was very into them though, which was good.  Pat even called a mother/daughter up on stage – they were in the row behind us dancing!  They got to sing and dance on stage with him.  If anyone knows who they are – I’d love to get in contact with them – I took a few photos of them that I would be more than happy to email to them as a keepsake.

Then about 9pm it was time for John! We were 7th row on David Ryan Harris’ side (yeahh nick jonas and the administration lol) which I thought was a pretty good spot. He started out with Bigger than My Body and then went into No Such Thing. I am much more familiar with the older stuff than Battle Studies. Don’t get me wrong, I looove Battle Studies, but for some reason I am just having a hard time retaining the lyrics lol So I was glad a lot of the set was older stuff.

At one point he went into a jam which turned into Ain’t No Sunshine which was phenomenal.  A couple of times during one of the songs I was fascinated by the images going over the video on the screen behind him  – lots of circuits and stuff.  What can I say, I’m an engineer. I might have even taken a photo of it…

Another highlight was when he had Pat join him on stage for Boys of Summer. That was a really fun sing along.  He also had us do a call and response here he named cities and girls and we’d yell back “We love ’em!”  And once again he said my city 🙂  February was the first time I had ever heard him say it so I was excited that he mentioned it again!

And not mentioned in the official setlist – a couple had a sign that said they were engaged and he made up a pretty hilarious song about the couple.  I kind of can’t wait to find a recording of the show just to hear that made up song again.  There was a taper a couple of rows behind me so I am just patiently waiting for him to get that posted somewhere.

While the setlist might not show it – it was a LONG show. Lots of jamming and songs just went on and on and of course the occasional banter.  He played for about 2 hours – I think it all ended about 11 and we were back at Christine’s by 11:30.  Would have been even sooner than that if they could figure out an easier way to get the drunk idiots back to the parking lots in an organized fashion!

Photos coming soon – I just wanted to get this review out of the way before I forgot what happened!

John Mayer Lounge 101

We were instructed to get to the venue at 4:15 and that our event would be starting at 4:30. I am not sure what time everything ended up going down, but we went and checked ourselves in and waited around a bit waiting to be let inside. We were informed that usually you aren’t allowed to take photos of his performance but today they were allowing it, but no video.

We were brought in and the group took up the 3rd and 4th rows of the venue. Somehow Christine and I managed to be dead center.  The band was there doing their soundcheck, but no John yet.

I spotted John on the stage and the crowd had NO reaction. David Ryan Harris was trying to get us to cheer, but there were no cheers. It was very weird and I didn’t want to be the only fool clapping and yelling lol

He sang 3 songs – Who Says, War Of My Life and Half of My Heart.  During one song (I think it was War Of My Life) he broke into ‘Life is a Highway’ which made Christine and I laugh because that was the last concert we had gone to together at this venue! I guess John was not as into it though because he started saying how he was usually better at picking songs and that whats done was done and he couldn’t go back and change it…

Then he said how he was kind of sad he was done because he didn’t want to leave the stage but he had to do a radio thing.  We were like umm we’re the radio thing? And then he told us that he was not high and that he’d see us at the “photo shoot”

We were taken into another “room” with a freaking 18 wheeler in it haha and were informed that we would be getting pics in groups of 8.  I strongly dislike group photos especially when it is probably the only time I will end up meeting someone, but I hoped we would be first so Christine and I could be on either side of him.  Which was exactly what happened!

I wore one of my first John Mayer shirts that I got in 2002 with his name in the back to the future font/style.  I walked up to him and he goes “That is my favorite shirt!” so I said “I loooove this shirt” and he was like “I designed it and then nobody bought it” I was like “I bought it!” and then it was time for the photo.  They took 2 (but only 1 ended up being posted so Im not sure what that was all about) and then Christine started talking to John and they were shoo-ing us out.  John was going on about how it would be Christine’s best year and really just kept going and going haha

There was also talk of John being excited for the show – after a nap and somehow it ended up that we said we’d nap in the car and he told us to never leave ourselves unattended in a car.

Then we were told since it ended so early we would have to go in the parking lot because we couldn’t be let inside yet.  We decided to go to McDonalds and by this point the lovely Hartford Police were directing traffic and one decided he didn’t like that we were turning even though it said handicapped was in the left lane and we almost got in an accident as a result of him ‘lecturing’ us or whatever it was he was doing.  We managed to eat for about half the price it would have cost to eat inside and listened to try and win Jonas Brothers tickets and M&Gs;!
