New Affiliates!

You might have noticed a new section on the right sidebar called “Affiliates” – if you haven’t, trust me, it’s there!

I’m going to do a spotlight of sorts on the first new affiliate which is  Font Generator This site is awesome because you can make a font from your own handwriting!

It is incredibly easy to use and great for graphics, scrapbooking, and just having fun!  All you need to do is head over to the site and download the template.  There are 2 pages, but I only used the regular alphabet page for making my font.  If you want more special characters included in your font, you can fill out the second page.

Once you have the template downloaded, all you need to do is print it out and fill in the boxes with your handwriting for the letters.  You then scan in the page and upload it.  Within a couple minutes – your font has been created!

The great thing is, you can preview your font before you buy it. (It is $9.95, more if you choose to do both pages worth)   This was a wonderful feature for me, because I realized I did all my lowercase letters a little bit too high in the boxes and it just looked ridiculous.  You can also type out phrases or words to see how everything looks all together – this is how I realized my upper case letters and lower case letters did not look right together at all!

If you are a scrapbooker – this font could come in handy.  I don’t know about you – but whenever I have a spot put aside for journaling – I either panic and screw something up or my letters all start to tilt up to the side, or I didn’t give myself the right amount of space. (Either I run out of room, or have too much room left!)  It would be so easy to measure out a box in photoshop or word that matches to the size of the journaling area and type in it.  Then you could make the font a little smaller if you were too wordy, bigger if you weren’t wordy enough!  Print it out on some nice vellum paper – and tada! You still have a personal touch!

I am not a digital scrapbooker – but what a nice way to add a personal touch to your pages! Just type in the journaling in your handwriting font!  I am using it for the setlists for my up and coming concert database for my website – I thought it would have a more personal touch if I “wrote” the setlists.

My font is how I would write if I actually sat down and used my “nice” handwriting.  I’m almost tempted to pair it with my Silhoutte’s pens and fool people with “handwritten letters”  Maybe I will try that one day as an experiment and post the results 😉

I do get a % of your purchase if you go through my affiliate link – so please consider doing that to help me with my concert habit 😉  However, I was not compensated for this “review” – I just think this website is awesome!

Old People

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpW3cwgWg8I]

Our phone number is a couple digits off to the local Macy’s and we have been getting calls asking for them for as long as I can remember. (When I was a kid it was Filene’s, but they have since merged and kept the same phone number)  Today a “Private” number came up on the caller ID so we let the machine get it. We had a laugh.  A couple minutes later, it rang AGAIN, once again a “Private” number and the second message was left. I love how she found it “disgusting” that no one was talking back to her – when she was talking to our answering machine. Gotta love stupid old people.

If she called a 3rd time, I was going to answer and say that it was Macy’s but we no longer had a bedding department and mess with her.  But she never did call back.

I guess this is what I get for getting angry people were calling and then hanging up on the machine all last week. hahaha

(PS – I have added a new contact me form to the right column ->> over there somewhere – it goes straight to my email if you have anything you want to talk to me about but don’t want to leave in a comment!)

Lightscribe!

I had mentioned earlier that I was looking for some cool designs for my digital photo DVDs that I was making.  I found some great templates at the official lightscribe website, in their design center! (http://www.lightscribe.com/ideas/index.aspx?id=2564)
So far I have done 6 designs, an ipod, guitars/drumset, a jukebox, a concert crowd, solo guitar and a cassette tape.  My favorite (so far) is the Juke Box which can be seen in this post.  I might try the other designs again on other colors because sometimes the darker color discs don’t show the designs as well.
This design could have been modified further, the 3 panels on the bottom of the jukebox you can insert photos!  Since my discs have so many different events being stored on them, I found it hard to choose what photos I wanted to add in, although I did use this feature on one of the discs I made. If you were making a mix cd for a friend – it would be a nice touch to add photos to the two of you to the bottom.

LMAO.  Ralph Lauren Polo Logos. Duh.

April 16
Have a toilet that bucked like a bronco

a bigoted toaster oven?

Toaster Oven, I guess.  A bucking toilet could complicate things.

Ick.  Worm spaghetti.

Baby talk.

Speak in the voice, volume, and intensity of a screaming Janis Joplin when speaking to anyone under seven years old?

Janis Joplin.  I guess.  I think my eyes constantly moving would make me pretty dizzy.

Exciting Stuff

Lots of exciting stuff seemed to happen today…

Christine managed to get herself, Lauren and I wristbands for the Honor Society signing in MA before the Boston show on May 2.  There was a bit of panic thinking she would only be able to get one, but she pulled through for us and now I don’t have to take a 5 hour round trip ride up there to try and get more bands so hooray for Christine! And now we all have a new Honor Society shirt! hahaha

Then on the way home from my cousin’s baby shower (also, very exciting) I found out that Hanson would be appearing on Letterman April 23rd.  They are taping it on Monday so I am going to see if I can head down to the city and maybe try stand by.  One of my life list items (a list that is still in my head – I really should work on getting it down on paper) is to see a band that I enjoy on a talk show.  When I went to the Today Show to see Honor Society we could kind of see them, but couldn’t hear them.  So I’m maybe 1/2 way there?  But seeing Hanson on Letterman would definitely lead to a cross-off!

Speaking of The Today Show – Hanson will also be appearing on that show April 26th.  After their interview they have invited fans to dance and go on a one-mile walk with them through NYC.  I am still not sure if I will be going or not, but if I do I certainly won’t be doing the walk.  It might be a cool experience to record all of the dancing, and I think they are going to be playing their new album as well – so we’ll see what happens there… depends on if I want to wake up early or not to get there and who of my friends will be there.

Still waiting for the announcement of Hanson tour dates (April 26), Jonas Brothers tour dates (end of month?) and MTV Buzzworthy has said they have something VERY exciting to announce about Honor Society… so this streak of exciting things seems like it will continue 🙂

Flashback Friday – 2001

In 2001 I saw O-Town 3 times, and met them. I also saw the Backstreet Boys, Aaron Carter and Britney Spears.

Have an innie belly button that extends all the way through your body
or
Six outie belly buttons scattered across your abdomen?

Um, weird. 1 innie, I guess

April 9
Be able to hear only words that start with a letter in the first half of the alphabet
or
have webbed arms and legs

I’m going with webbed arms and legs because it would be damn near impossible to function if I only heard words that started with letters in the beginning of the alphabet.

April 10/11
Be bludgeoned to death with a slab of beef
or
Be trapped in a submarine until it slowly fills up with elvis impersonators

Submarine.

April 12
Be the guy on an assembly line who stamps the price tag on a bag of pretzels
or
Richard Simmons’ personal assistant?

As much fun as richard simmons seems like he is – I think Id get annoyed by his peppiness in about 5 minutes. So pretzel stamping it is!

April 13
Be a member of an amish collective farm
or
A professional wrestler called “The Tailor” whose gimmicks is to alter wrestlers’ trunks after a pin-fall?

Amish = no internet, right?  So definitely wrestler!

April 14
Be compelled to enter every room by jumping into the doorway with an imaginary pistol drawn like the star of a ’70s cop show
or
Invariably make your angry face instead of smiling when being photographed?

LOL I already make angry faces when being photographed.. and I love all things 70s – so jumping in a doorway with an imaginary pistol drawn would be awesome.

Hearing

I’ve often been warned that going to so many loud concerts is going to eventually mess with my hearing (and I think it already has). I am a lot more conscious of wearing earplugs, especially at shows where it is the CROWD that is loud. As of right now, I have only used the orange foam plugs, but I have been looking into getting a better pair.

One of the message boards I post at had a thread seeing how high of a frequency you could hear if you were over 25. It linked to THIS POST on noise addicts. So I went and I took the test and I can’t hear over the 17Hz link. Off course this test isn’t 100% accurate, but it is still pretty interesting.

The entry also linked to some ear plugs and upon some further research they seem like they are a pretty good pair to buy, and only $12. Once I get my next $5 gift card to Amazon from SWAGBUCKS, I will be picking myself up a pair. (And hopefully they will come in time for my crazy run of concerts from April 24 – May 2)

There was another post on the site which asked you to guess which sound was louder. In an effort to prove my hearing doesn’t totally suck, I took that one as well. (Can you hear which is louder?) and got 100% 🙂

Maybe my ears aren’t all that messed up after all, but I won’t be risking it by not bringing ear plugs to some of my louder shows (and I really should get in the habit to bringing them to ALL my shows – maybe that will start once I get the ER20s!)

40 Days of Water – Complete!

40 Days of Water has been done for about a week now (I ended sooner than Easter because Sundays don’t count in the lenten calendar and I went straight through most weeks)

My first non water drink was an XXX Vitamin Water, which I thought was going to end up being too sweet – but it was actually just as I had remembered it!

Soda on the other hand, was a whole other story. I decided to have a coke with my lunch at work and with the first sip, I thought my eyes were going to pop out of my head. With every sip after that I felt like my throat was burning. I didn’t want to waste the can, so I suffered through it and then decided drinking soda was a really bad idea.

Then, I decided to get another soda with my dinner one night. Apparently I thought that Dr. Pepper would not be as bad as Coke? But it was.

And I’ve actually been opting to have a glass of water even when there is soda in the house – so while my donation might have helped those in Uganda have access to clean water, I think the real victory here is that it helped me kick my soda habit!

Internet Friends

Sometimes I get the urge to write. Most of the time I have no idea what I want to write, though. The other day I tweeted asking what people thought I should blog about here – my only limitations was I preferred it to be music related so it could fit under the “concert” title of this blog, but if the topic was interesting enough I’d be down for anything.

One of the topics I got was “meeting cool people” I asked for clarification – cool celebrities or cool friends? I was told my cool friends.

I decided to write a bit about friends I have met on the internet. When I was in 7th or 8th grade we got the internet at my house. I used to go around looking for other Hanson fans. I found alt.fan.hanson on usenet and my first real internet relationships began. A group of us became really close and we would chat online staying up to all hours of the night talking about Hanson, our lives, crushes, boyfriends, etc.

In 2000, I started meeting up with these girls at concerts. (I always had my mom with me, just in case they weren’t girls – but they all were!) I’m not about to sit here and figure it all out – but if I had to guess I would say that more than half of my 41 Hanson concerts have been attended with internet friends – if not even more than that.

For me, it was easier to find people who had similar interests to me on message boards than at school, where I was one of very few Hanson fans. They were also more accepting of me than the kids at school were, probably because we were all kind of in the same boat.

I have continued to make friends and meet up with people I have met online. I still keep in touch with a lot of the girls I started talking to in 2000, we have grown up together and gone through ups and downs together just as we would have if we lived next door – even though we live miles and miles away (the evolution of social networking sites have helped with this a lot too!)

This month I am going to 8 or 9 more concerts – and ALL of them will be with internet friends and none with so called “real life” friends. (But my internet friends are also my real life friends, as far as I am concerned! I see them way more often than my friends from school) I very much look forward to hanging out with Lauren P, Christine, Ashley (who gave me the topic for this post), Marisa, Maribeth, Lauren D, Leah and anyone else I might be forgetting!
